Man I enjoyed this twitter thread. It seems that Brits actually do appreciate a good Yank.

This has been in the works for a while. And now it’s essentially done. 2 USMNT players are now at Leeds playing for Jesse Marsch.

and in other news, your Chelsea team may have Christiano Ronaldo as he is interested in a transfer.

Yeah. Ronaldo and Neymar are both exploring options. Most Chelsea fans seem to not want Ronaldo. And after the Lukaku failure, it’s hard to blame them. Personally I’m old school, so for me I want a prototypical goal scoring #9. I stil think Lukaku could have succeeded. I’d be all for it. Would it work? Who knows. But I’m all for trying.

Supposedly your coach isn’t sold on it.

Surely that has got to be a case of an agent floating rumors to try to drive up interest in his client. Because with the way the Tuchel wants to play Ronaldo is an even worse fit at Chelsea than he was at Man U, and even worse than Lukaku was last season.

There’s only a few clubs who can afford it. Chelsea is one of them. The American owner is listening but will differ to Tuchel and Tuchel may not want him. A couple other destinations I heard were Napoli and PSG. Ronaldo will drop wages because at this point in his career he wants champions league. And he won’t get that at United.

Ronaldo can score but he isn’t the same threat he used to be. He has to be able to play in a system and not have a system built around him. I think he is smart enough to play in a system and make a team better, but is the value great enough that spending less on someone else gets you close with greater longevity.

He didn't do that at United last year, to the point that they had to change the way that they wanted to play, to a mostly disastrous effect.

There are teams that play a certain way that Ronaldo can still help. A team that wants to play like Chelsea does, that wants to press all over the field including with their center forward, is not that team.

Ronaldo was far from the problem at MU. There were glaring issues with other field players especially the defense, goalie not one of them. A talent like Ronaldo can play and he knows where his career is at. Chelsea may be a terrible fit for him, but he can find a home and adapt just fine. MU needs a lot things fixed, Ronaldo is not at the top of the list.

A talent like Ronaldo who still wants to play like he's 27 when he's 37 is absolutely a problem for a team with the aspirations of Man U or Chelsea. He wasn't at the top of the list, but he absolutely was on the list. If Chelsea signs him and plays him regularly they will have to change the way that they play.

And given what we've seen, what makes anyone think that Tuchel has any interest at all in changing the way that he plays? He certainly didn't for Lukaku, a guy coming off a 24 goal, 11 assist campaign for the Serie A champions.

Tuchel isn’t sold on Ronaldo. Ronaldo should go back to Italy or Spain. And Lukaku brings great scoring but at Chelsea there wasn’t really room for him and there really isn’t room for Ronaldo either. When teams are doing well, leave them be. MU wasn’t improving prior to Ronaldo coming in. They were still juggling coaches, juggling players, and just not the same team.

Yeah I don’t know. United is a mess so I’m not sure Ronaldo was the problem. I kinda felt like he wasn’t going to help them much and he didn’t.

At least at Chelsea, he will get on the other end of crosses that Lukaku didn’t. His quality is simply better and his movements off the ball are better. But even with Lukaku, Chelsea was first in the table early for the first couple of months and that was with Lukaku starting. Then a couple key injuries, a really rough December with injuries, and all of a sudden the title race was lost. And then in Champions League they dominated Real Madrid more than Man City did, but found a grueling way to lose it in the final minutes. So they were right there and honestly should have been in the semi. They also lost 2 cup finals in penalties to Liverpool. So I think Ronaldo finishing at a higher clip than Havertz or Lukaku can help chelsea reach the same level in cups and yield more points in the league.

I don’t see Chelsea as this pressing machine. Mount pressed well, but Lukaku, Havertz, Pulisic aren’t effective pressers in my mind. Werner was ok pressing. For me, Chelsea just had a difficult time breaking down teams who were more comfortable sitting behind the ball. Stamford Bridge is a smaller pitch and in that final 1/3rd I think Ronaldo can operate better in tighter spaces. You’d think Lukaku could have been that guy too because he is so strong but in my personal opinion Tuchel had this rotation going where if you didn’t score in a game you were back on the bench. That never allowed Lukaku to get going and I suppose tuchel would have the same impatience with Ronaldo. And that won’t help the locker room. I think I just talked myself out of being receptive to Ronaldo to Chelsea. Lol

Ronaldo is not the future for teams. He brings solid play but it’s short term from here on out.

Yes. He’s a stop gap. But there is so much player movement from year to year, having Ronaldo for 2 years wouldn’t be any different than having hakim Ziyech or Timo Werner for 2 years, and just might be a better signing. Jersey sales alone in the first week would pay for the transfer fee. I heard United made 50 million the first week. And I know Pulisic’s jersey sales made his transfer to Chelsea pay off immediately. Ronaldo would play for less so I don’t think financially it’s a risk. But United don’t want to sell to a team they think they’d be competing against for top 4. So that makes a chelsea transfer difficult. I don’t know where he will end up. It’s a tough one.

I’m such an anti-jersey wearing guy. I don’t mind a basic tshirt with a word or simple logo on the front. I do own one jersey that was a gift from my brother, Mertens Belgium national jersey. But I just don’t like the idea. When I flew back from Colorado recently there were like 20 people on the plane wearing Colorado hockey sweaters. I just can’t do it as an adult. There is a dad from an Indiana team my kid plays. He wears the team shirt with his kids name on the back. He is the biggest ass, and causes a lot of issues. We call him jersey guy. He started talking trash to a few of our players during a game and some of our dads are pretty big dudes got up and pretty much shut him up. He decided it was better to than talk shit to the moms. That’s what a jersey wearing person seems to always be. Loud and annoying.

LOL. I’d take my chances with a hockey dad over a hockey mom. No way am I pissing off a mama bear.

I’m gonna be watching this closely this Fall. Hoping it was injuries and fitness that slowed him down last year. Anyone know more details? I’ll be tuning in on ESPN+

Speaking of jerseys, my mother saved every soccer jersey I wore since youth. I have a bag full of youth, high school, to college to overseas teams I played on. That’s pretty cool, but they stay in the bag and never worn again.

I wanted to save all my kids jerseys and make a blanket. I’ve seen that done before. From youth, to club, to ODP, high school, college, WPSL…heck my one daughter even has one from playing in England. lots of jerseys to make a very cool blanket. But never saves anything sadly.

My kid got to play WPSL this summer after ECNL season ended. Headed to playoffs this weekend. Some serious players in their division and team. Girls from Clemson, Auburn, Alabama, Vanderbilt, UT, Samford, Lipscomb and a bunch others from NCAA teams. Great experience for a 16 year old. It’ll be a great option for summer play when ECNL is no longer an option.

Are there any EPL teams not owned by Americans, royalty, or oligarchs?

Yes.

Brentford, Brighton and the Tots are owned by rich English guys. Everton is owned by a guy who was born in Iran and is currently based in Monaco. Leicester is owned by the family of the guy from Thailand who owned them until he died a few years ago. Nottingham Forrest is owned by the same Greek dude who owns Olympiacos (so 79 should root for them). Southampton is owned by a Serbian businessman. West Ham is owned by a group of non-Americans/royals/oligarchs (the guy who owns the biggest percentage is Welsh and he made his money in, of all things, pornography). And Wolves are owned by three Chinese guys.

Maybe one day the English will own their own teams.

Didn't realize the 49ers owned 44% of Leeds. Also didnt realize that the 2 guys who bought David Teel's 5% Steeler ownership share own Crystal Palace? Are there any EPL teams not owned by Americans, royalty, or oligarchs?
The EPL is the biggest toy in the world so…

Aaronson looks amazing. His pressing led to the goal and the pace with how he drives through the MF…

Not to mention Jesse’s brand of soccer is fun to watch.

Scanning some of the Leeds accounts and they’re in love with Aaronson already.

some people are just physiologically built differently. He either has a heart like a race horse or has an extra lung.

it’s like that Riverhounds Brownsville girl who is a freshman at UNC. She set the program record for the beep test. Think about all of the elite talent that went through that program, and she set a new record. Most people can train and train and never reach a level of fitness like that.

As long as the teams are worth a lot of money, people who have a lot of money will be the ones most likely to own them. And their aren't actually a lot of English people who are on the list of people who have the most money. If for no other reason than in the grand scheme of things there aren't a whole lot of English people.

Aaronson scores!!
Adams was involved in it too.
