If Pitt wins this saturday there is a great chance we could have our best season attendance figures ever. Having two big home games up front on the schedule will create more buzz to the casual fan and potentially drive increased attendance for the lesser games later in the year (Rhode Island, Duke).

Pretty sure we average almost 60k in 2003. I would assume that is out highest (or close to it).
I believe you’re right. That was pretty much the perfect storm because we had success the season prior and had a very nice home schedule that season (Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Miami). Additionally, we were in the Big East title contention late into the season.

Yeah. On top of all that, Heinz Field was still a novelty to people who couldn't get there for a Steeler game yet, and you could come and watch one of the five greatest receivers of all time play.

Both good points. Just a lot of good things that went the right way. We have some of that this season (strong home schedule, high expectations), but I think it’ll come down to if we’re in national contention come October and November. If we beat Tennessee this week, I think we can begin to discuss that moving forward.

will create more buzz to the casual fan and potentially drive increased attendance... Hahaha, newer Pitt fans, they are so cute. If a national championship and 30-3 three year records did not create buzz and booming attendance in an age with two or three games a year on tv, nothing will...

Yeah. That year was the perfect storm. Great home schedule of ND, VT and Miami (when VT and Miami were top 10 programs). Fitz. Preseason rankings, including Athlon's ranking Pitt #9 in the preseason. Also coming off an unexpected 9-4 season.
I mean Kent State had a legit 53K. Syracuse, a noon start, actually had 60K. The ND, VT and Miami games were sold out.

The only way Pitt sells out games like GT, Duke, Syr, Wake, Lou, BC, etc is if we have OSU or Bama type success. Top 5 every year, I'm talking. Top 10, Top 15 doesn't sell it out. Stadium is just too big.

Now lets say we're playing GT in a 45K-50K full stadium. That place would be electric

People are already bitching ticket prices are too high for a top 25 matchup against a name opponent ayear after winning the acc.

Probably the same people that bitch that Pitt is "cheap"

It's possible but unlikely to top 2003 when Pitt had big home games with VT, ND and Miami and averaged (I think) 60,000.

well at least he tried some marketing. Big complaint with Heather....she does nothing to improve the Heinz Field situation. Hardly any marketing, and doesn't seem to want to bring up the tarping issue.

I think I've seen more marketing for Pitt football this year than pretty much ever. I've seen commercials on several different Pittsburgh channels, and I see on line ads for Pitt football tickets all the time.

Not including this year, the average of the numbers listed above (if I calculated correctly) is 44,460. I've thought the stadium scaled down to 48,000 would be perfect for Pitt. Capacity house nearly every week and you create a demand for tickets rather than having a surplus.

Yeah - in fact all of pitt athletics has a substantially higher advertising profile lately

Any word on Ticket sales for Saturday's game? Based on what I am seeing at Stub Hub etc...looks light. We need to show up for this game!

At all costs, PITT should fill the lower bowl. It can make a half stadium sound whole. Upgrade existing ticket holders. Discount uppers. Fill the PIT PITT. I am curious what they draw if they beat Tenn and WMU for the likely noon Rhode Island game.
