I think Pitt needs to go 9-3 to win get a Tier 1 Bowl because, as we now know, there is no "within 1 win rule" and at 8-4, there wont be enough distance between them and attractive 6-6 teams like VT, FSU, UNC, and NC State. So, if we win out, here's what I think the bowl situation looks like:

CFP: Clemson

Orange: Wake Forest

Camping World: Notre Dame

Music City: UVa
Belk: Miami
Pinstripe: Pitt
Sun: Louisville

If Pitt wins out, I think VT goes 6-6 losing to Wake, Pitt, and UVa to knock them down a peg.

Wake Forest is going to lose one or two more times.

I have factored in the Clemson loss. They could lose to VT or Duke but I don't think they do. Their offense is legit. Somehow they have 2 if the 5 best QB's in the league and 2 of the best WR's

don't count out Pac-12. There's a chance for an 11-1 conference champion. I don't think an extra SEC team would trump that.

That is already shaping up to be the big decision. I think a 1 loss PAC 12 champ gets in over Oklahoma, but not sure about a 1 loss SEC team.

Especially if Alabama would lose without Tua to LSU this week then win out. They wouldn’t even be playing in the SEC title game, but you can be pretty sure they get in. Also if Georgia beats an undefeated Alabama/LSU team in the SEC title game you can pretty much bank on both of those teams getting in.

Oregon at 12-1 owns a blowout loss to a what may end up being a 4 loss Auburn team and Utah lost to USC. The OSU/PSU loser may get in over the Pac 12 champ.

If it’s OSU maybe, a 1 loss PSU with their schedule has only one path to get in and that’s win them all. If they lose to Ohio St they have no realistic chance to get in.

And as usual with SMF much of this thread has nothing to do with Pitt as they are not finishing with a 9-3 record and a tier one bowl.

In fact , I think the Pinstripe may be a done deal with Mich State. Certainly, heather has been working the phones.

I'm cool with NYC and Mich State.

My Preferences in Order
1) Orange
2) Camping World
3) Music City
4) Annapolis
5) NYC

Pitt-Michigan State could be a 3-0 game. Us with a field goal on the opening drive and nothing else

Blowout? Didn't they blow a lead late and lose in last seconds of that game?

Unbelievable that I missed this. Tough to call it a blowout when Auburn took their first lead with a few seconds left in the game. Was another Cristobal special as his clock management down the stretch was lousy.

I really have no interest anymore in any lower tier bowl games. I appreciate that the team uses a bowl appearance as additional time to practice and play, but anything below the Camping World game is really nothing more to me than an opportunity to watch the game on TV. I have 0 interest in any of the bowl cities including NYC.

Nashville would be a nice trip

They wouldn’t supplant. They would play against an ACC team. Before the Miami loss, Pitt was projected to play ND in the Orange bowl by SI.
Yes - I had previously corrected my post.

3 things:

I thought we learned last year there is no "2 win rule" and the Championship game loser is not guaranteed Tier 1 although the league works strongly on their behalf to make sure they dont fall to Tier 2. And why wouldnt Notre Dame go to the Camping World Bowl if they arent a New Year's 6 at-large?

Right now, I think the Pinstripe is a pretty safe bet.

Can you explain how the Oregon/auburn game was a blowout?

I have heard the city is pretty vibrant, but I can’t stand country music.
It's a great place to visit, I went to a Steelers game once on TNF there and stayed until Sunday, go down the main drag and there are multiple bars with live music and no cover, it's not all stereotypical country music either, I saw some bands doing more of the country rock etc. It's a fun place to hang out.

VT CANNOT go to bowl at 6-6, they played 2 FCS teams and can only count 1 towards bowl eligibility. To be bowl eligible, VT has to go 7-5.
Unless it's one of those years when they have to take 5-7 teams because there aren't enough 6-6 or better.

Funny story - our oldest is planning a bachelors party for a good friend in Nashville. Someone told him that they were surprised since Nashville is more of a bachelorette destination. Our son replied "Exactly". ;)

I've heard of that? NFL draft day, the bachelorettes where complaining that the place was overrun with NFL fans. But when I went there I thought it was great. The music was awesome, of course I knew these two guys from my home town who where guitarists in a band down there, and we went and saw them play, they where more into classic rock, but they also played country rock and made a part of their living from Nashville bar gigs.
