Most of these types of mascot logos were all illustrated by Arthur Evans for Angelus-Pacific and Collegiate Manufacturing Co. in the 50s and 60s.

CMC produced felt pennants and banners like this:

Licensing wasn't done like it was today. Companies just made whatever designs they wanted for their merchandise. Some schools adopted these mascot versions.
damn, never seen these, pretty cool..

Their sense of humor is undaunted by not actually winning the game.

If there is a social media awards show, this Calgorithm site has to win something. In all seriousness, full credit to those crazy lefties for giving FSU the game. Cal already won 3 game and will win enough to get a participation trophy bowl. They didnt need this one.

“Cal has essentially been isolated in the Pac-12 for most of the Internet era. And Cal has often been an afterthought, as they stumble to early conference losses, and are then immediately forgotten.

This year? Cal is in the ACC, a conference that people east of the Mississippi generally pay attention toward. They landed one of the most impressive early wins of the year at Auburn. They will have three of their first four games broadcast to a national audience.

The Bears typify the very strange landscape of 2025 college football, and that has led to all sorts of new and interesting connections we previously didn’t have.

The Bay Area has been a bit of a punching bag in some outlets of the political spectrum. It’s not hard to project that a lot of the vitriol directed toward Cal and Stanford in realignment discussions was because of the region they originated from, and the general political leanings of those who went there.

Instead of running away from the stereotypes, Cal Twitter has run headfirst into them and embraced them wholeheartedly, with a playful and lighthearted spirit.

With Cal sitting on the precipice of being left behind in college football, “tweet through it” has become the way of the game. If the Bears are going to be playing an existential game of risk year after year, go down tweeting!”

I say, “Whatever you are, own it”. They are certainly owning who they are, and I’m laughing. I’m not sure if it’s “with” or “at”, but I am laughing.

when your football team is such a joke and so irrelevant that the fanbase has to create online entertainment, it can be gold.

They mentioned their social media postings on the FSU game broadcast. I forget exactly what was said. I'll tell you what, I have watched a good amount of 2 Cal games this season which is probably 2 more than I have ever watched. Partly because they are in the ACC and partly because I think its funny AF that they are positioning themselves as the college football team of the left. Its like we have ND for the Catholics, BYU for the Mormons, Liberty for the evangelicals, PSU for the pedophiles, WVU for the inbreds, and now Cal has become the team of the far-left. Pitt should lean into this and have some type of game promotion. Maybe Antifa Night?

They are one of the better teams in the ACC. Im not sure how much that means exactly but from what I have seen teams 2 through 8 or 10 are basically the same and they are one of them.

following the university's policies and stances within the political climate over the last few decades, we arent too far from being Berkeley-east.. or at least striving to be

I have found some of their stuff to be funny. But I would rather politics left out of sports and these tweets just rub your face in it non stop.

they are mocking themselves, the woke agenda, i find it funny. even they know it's over the top and they mock it. again, typical over the top leftist stuff to annoy and get a reaction.

that's why it's gold.

Part of it, they are mocking themselves, yes. Part of it, they are mocking the people who get so scared of certain things. Not trying to turn this thread political but just pointing out the intent of their tweets. Like the picture of the Bears getting off the plane with Critical Race Theory books, they know that scares the crap out of certain folks. And I am not advocating for or against CRT, just saying that certain people get so scared by it, that it kind pokes fun at those people.

It’s not political
It’s self deprecating parody
While also hilarious since they were visiting the state capital where a supposedly serious governor said “where woke goes to die “ so especially hilarious .

But, they lost. One could stretch to say their effort that they went to Florida for died. That would only have been funny if they won.

I thought it was funny because they do it to every school they play.

Who had “Cal has an engaged fan base” on their bingo card? I didn’t even know they had fans. Personally, I’m loving their addition to the ACC.
Well when they were here at the Civic Arena for the NCAA tourney in 2003, their Bear mascot was hilarious. He would just strut around and then flip off random people. It was friggin hilarious.

Yeah but it brings politics into sports for sure. The example you cited is political. I think they are clever for sure but I prefer the separation between sports and politics.

It’s social media
If you don’t want opinions - don’t go online

on an related note, do we know if Cal is good? lost to a terrible fsu team but honestly, fsu still could beat a good team. also beat auburn,. i have no clue if auburn is good this year but they are still auburn..

i know we think fsu sucks and well, they do but they still have talent so losing to an 0-3 fsu is bad but not terrible. not like losing to a james madison or something..

They have a good defense and good running backs, and the Mendoza kid at QB is chaotic and can pull some things out of his ass when they’re in third or fourth and long. They do not appear to have a good offensive line, which results in their offense working in fits and starts, and puts Mendoza in a bunch of situations where he needs to pull something out of his ass.

They can beat us, especially if we don’t get the OL right. But I also think we should be favored by maybe 3-5 points.

GT and BC were more physical up front than fsu. I watch a decent amount of Cal vs fsu and I didn’t see that same kind of advantage up front.

Mendoza isn’t bad but Pitt will definitely have the advantage

Cal has a good tight end. Pitt under narduzzi has an extremely long track record of making any TE with a pulse look amazing so that should be interesting

Nope I don't mind opinions. Was just mentioning my preference for keeping sports and politics separate...Similar to getting rid of the Locker Room on Pantherlair.
You want that #Karengorithm

The lockerroom disappeared because of some 1/6 supporters after the insurrection .
Because suspending their accounts would have made too much sense .

On Saturday their offensive line couldn't handle the FSU blitz at all. They seemed OK (from what I saw) when FSU sat back and defended, but when the FSU defense really got after them they didn't have an answer.

And their OL was so scared of the pass rush they kept jumping offsides

The Calgorithm is back and better than ever. Miami @ Cal this weekend and the branding our good Cal friends have given this game is elite.

Woke vs Coke

They need to create an at-large CFP bid for Cal for real.
