Carlton Carrington MLK Classic 42 point scoring record, Full Game Video / Box Score

I dont understand why they have to go to such extremes. BballinsiderfromPitt's take on Mintz is all-time bad. He was Top 30/40 but he said he sucked since he committed to Pitt.

People aren't positive on the program because, well, look where the program has been the last 6 years or so and how bad it was. No recruit is going to get the benefit of the doubt in the national rankings. No analyst is going to take the risk of putting a Pitt player really high when Pitt has been at the bottom of the league every year.

What I find ironic / funny / sad at the same time.

Mintz committed to Pitt. His national ranking dropped a lot, only for his national ranking to really improve after he decommitted and then went to Syracuse.

Jalen Hood Schifino had his national ranking drop when he committed to Pitt. he decommitted, went to Indiana, and the national ranking went right back up.

Dior Johnson was headed to Pitt and his national ranking dropped. Jamie Shaw almost dropped Dior out of the top 100 after Dior was one of the best players and most elite scorers in the entire EYBL. This was almost insane to me.

We aren't going to get the benefit of the doubt with player rankings until we start winning again. Its the reality. And it doesnt really matter. But I know what a top 50 guy looks like in comparison to a top 100 guy looks like to a guy not ranked.

But some programs need to stop getting the benefit of the doubt. One needs to be Ohio State basketball, who does absolutely nothing with all their basketball talent. Their talent has been overrated for years. And they arent the only one. Plenty of programs get recruiting bumps for no reason. And their results stay the same.

People are entitled to their own opinions. My opinion is clear. I am absolutely pumped at the potential trio of Dior / Carrington / Lowe because we have not had talent close to this in a very long time.

At this point, I'm sick and tired of hearing about 2 players who say they have committed to Pitt but may or may not be here when the season starts. I don't care what their stats are right now, as long as they honor their commitments. And we all know that high school kids sometimes don't honor their commitments.

Then there's the case of Dior Johnson, a highly rated recruit who, in all likelihood, won't be here next year and never played one minute for Pitt. No wonder some of us are jaded about all of this hype for players who aren't even here yet.

I'm more interested in what Pitt is doing or going to do THIS YEAR. More than half the team that we have this year will be gone next year, and we have no idea about what we're getting with what we think are incoming players to replace them. This overhyping of some kids is unnecessary. Let's just play the games we have left this year and wait and see if Carrington and Lowe even bother to show up for their first Pitt practice. Forget Johnson....he's not going to be here. Just trying to be realistic.

I haven’t watched a second of his video but looking on google at his stats and others evaluations it sounds like he is more of a Burton. Has a very strong mid range game. And he already has some strength to his frame. But doesn’t take a lot of 3’s and is a mid 30’s in 3 point percentage. Which is fine. I would take another Burton in a second.

He's more of a Kerry Kittles coming out of high school type than another Burton.

Agreed. This whole thread sucks and it should be cool
Listen will he be great ?
I don’t know
But for pitt to sustain success we need good hs players coming in and. Catch transfer portal gold

This is the first recruiting class since capel’s first class which is exciting

If somehow and someway we add Dior and John into the mix along with 3 good prospects - how is that bad
Hell- Laland alone as a true pg is helpful

I could of swore I posted some of this stuff on Carrington but maybe I didn't. This was 2 weeks ago at the Jordan Holiday Classic. He consistency does this this type of stuff off the bounce. I probably have 50 posts from last spring and summer and some in the fall detailing the major events as I watched him every single game.

He does not play anything at all like Burton.

They were all transfers and bball insider wants to hit the portal and forget about HSBB
Like 1 of those guys was a capel recruit and you conveniently left out his best team’s players? And some were juco transfers which ISNT the portal.

Window is closing to stay 24/25 years old. The dudes we need for next year are not available yet.

Dior Johnson’s ranking dropped like it did every year because he topped out his ability at a young age and became a nomad. Since rankings are largely based on where the scout thinks a player has NBA potential and a lot of HS evaluators are getting hired by NBA teams it’s not surprising in the least his ranking dropped. He’s not a high flyer which predicts his development will drop off and more skilled guards are often underranked.

Other than the 12-15 people ordained by genetics and god to be NBA players, 12-15 high ceiling guys based on size, athleticism and length who will get a shot in the nba, rankings are largely useless from 30-250 +

You know that Pitt and other teams can still get 4th and 5th year players (if they redshirted) after the Covid year goes away. So they can have 23 and 24 year olds instead of 24 and 25 year olds if they choose. There will be Plenty 22, 23, 24 year old players in the portal every year after Covid.

Age gap with be significantly reduced in the coming years between freshmen and seniors as Covid years go away and they stop handing out waivers to every 8th year junior that asks for one

PITT’s first recruit should be petitioning for a 7th year for Nike for unfair treatment/injuries

It will be reduced by ONE year. ONE.

As for Nike, this is his 4th full year of college basketball PLUS the 14 games he played in the 20-21 Covid year. On what basis, would he be given 5 full years plus the Covid year?

Correct, it will be reduced. Thanks for finally getting one.

What basis? What does it matter? Go petition it. They just granted a kid from Oregon an 8th year and he has an additional year after that. NCAA is granting extra eligibility left and right. Would hurt nothing to petition

The Oregon kid:

2016: RS
2017: RS Fr (played in 7 games)
2018: Soph (played in 1 game)
2019: DNP
2020: Covid
2021: played in 1 game
2022: played in 13 games

He only had 2 seasons where he played more than 1 game. Nike has played 4 full seasons plus the Covid year

8th year. Has a 9th available. Easy decision to petition.

Sibande played 4 full years plus 14 games in the Covid year. Lets put you in charge of making the NCAA's decision here. On what basis, could you justify giving him a 5th FULL season?
There’s no justification for a 8th or 9th year but this kid is getting it. I’m not saying they’ll grant it. I’m saying they should petition it. Easy decision.

Easy: because the NCAA and his old school boned him out of a free full covid year that everyone else got by holding up the transfer process that everyone else got to have.

Yes, that's the only justification. He missed 7 or 8 games in a "free year."

It takes literally 5 mins to fill out the NCAA waiver. They absolutely should do it.

I would file petitions for everyone. But the Oregon kid had a better case because the NCAA appears to be using the "how many seasons did you play" test. The Oregon kid only played 2 seasons in 7 years.

??? He’s had 8 good games in his career. We lose 4 24 year old guards. I’d like to have a 24-25 year old guard on next year’s roster.

Also, smart people adapt. That’s me!
Smarter people don’t dig in and make crazy comments just to prove “how smart” they are .

Maybe let’s kids play a few seasons in college before dismissing them?

I was beginning to wonder if you’ve ever been laid.

Why would we ask if they might say no!!!

He’s a scorer averaging 7 points per game in his 5th season in college.

You certainly never dig in to prove “how smart” you are. Never seen that!

Like I said, I adapt and adjust opinions on new information. Like any smart person would do. You could learn a thing or two from your obsession with me

Just so there is no confusion, here is how I rank our recruits and Ive said this a few times now. And Ive watched them a lot.

Carrington- Top 60
Lowe- Top 60-75
Barnes- unranked, Top 150-250

Here are the 2 updated sites rankings thus far

247

Carrington-96
Lowe-76
Barnes- unranked

rivals

Carrington-87
Lowe-109
Barnes- unranked

btw, its about time rivals got on the bandwagon with Tylaur Johnson, a kid Ive been hyping for over a year. Johnson is now #56 nationally. Its about time.

Here are the stat splits for Barnes this year, a player we have not talked about much. Im missing 1 game, a game Brush won by about 30 and was the weakest game on their schedule.

Barnes

team, points, rebounds, assists

Jesuit 8 / 5 / 4

St. Edward 13 /6 /1

Start 10 / 3 / 1

Lakewood 7 / 4 / 2

Richmond Heights 28 / 12 / 1

Nardonia 25 / 5 / 1

South Oak Cliff 16 / 6 / 1

Breckville 9 /6 /3

Maple Heights 8 /6 /3

Taft 21 / 2 / 1

ESPN has now updated their rankings.

Lowe- 66th Nationally, 4 star
Carrington- 4 star, just out of the top 100
Barnes-3 star, just outside of 4 star

Still waiting on on3 and prephoops. Although with the way the state rankings look on prephoops, Lowe and Carrington have big bumps coming on prephoops.

So the only disagreement on the rankings is Carrington, who I like far better than the agencies. And the agencies dont even have his height correct. Lowe is now in that 60-75 range like I said above.

Honest question because I really don’t know. What criteria do the ranking services for their rankings and how does that criteria different from yours?

ORTG and the FORCE!!!
I honestly think player evaluation of a high school basketball player now with all the measurable and non measurable skills and attributes has a very low reliability if you are just watching games on the internet, or looking at numbers and stats, and comparing performances they had to other so called high rated recruits.

I also look there are so many variables to consider before deciding if that player will transition in a good college basketball player.

For these reasons, I don’t get excited about basketball rankings by recruiting services or posters on the Pitt board. Unless maybe the person has been a long time high school basketball coach or does player evaluations for a living with a lot of experience. Even then who knows how they will really end up in college.

Curious to get your assessment on Barnes...we know that Carrington and Lowe have great potential...Barnes? Thanks!

Carrington being an east coast guy who plays for a prominent high school team has resulted in him having as many eyes on him as anyone. You’re always seeing tweets from guys who work for the recruiting services who are at St. Frances games watching him.

I’ve said it earlier but other Than ranking the 12 or so humans ordained by god to play NBA hoops and rhe 12 or so other guys oozing w that potential it’s largely meaningless. These players are no better or worse than yesterday

Here is the full game video of Carrington breaking the all time scoring record at the MLK Classic. He has been absolutely on fire this season, including today, with another 24 point performance with a barrage of 3's in todays game after coming off 2 huge games at the Jordan Classic.

Here is the video of the full game. Carrington is #11. You can see how tall he is here, pushing 6'6, and how he has a few inches on Jahnathan Lamothe who is his teammate in the video.

Here is the Box Score

Keep us updated on how the recruits are doing. Good stuff!
