Raleigh I know exactly where Wvu is ranked and why.Wvu serves the purpose of what it is created to do for the state of Wva.That is to give the kids of Wva a college education that is affordable.Wvu takes many students that couldn't get into other universities and gives them an opportunity. Low and behold some of them graduate and become pillers of society like Pitt grads.Raleigh we miss you in Morgantown especially since you had the second highest I Q in town when you lived here.Was it Dr Julian Bailes that had the higher IQ than yours?

If the conference’s had a Saturday morning “That’s Academic” then UMD but they don’t they play sports and the same “student athletes” that get into IMD would get into WVU. The whole thing about academics and conference alignment is a joke. UL in the ACC? Northwestern and NU?
The thing is, I don't make the rules. But there's no way in any conference that WVU gets in before Maryland.
UMD is in really bad shape financially. They over spent on facilities thinking an Olympics were coming to DC. They have athletic debt out the you know what.
Pizzaboy, I know lots of people who are WVU grads. I went to HS for my senior year in the lumber / coal area of the state.
One of my best friends graduated from WVU, and just retired from the same fortune 50 company that I started in - he's in his mid-50's, and did extremely well in his career.
He was planning to go to Case Western until his father passed away while he was in high school. He then made the tough choice to stay close to his Mom in Elkins and attend WVU. His WVU degree didn't hold him back one bit. But, he is an extremely hard worker. And, extremely bright.
He now lives in Kentucky, and his oldest is a senior in HS. She got a perfect score on her ACTs and chose Louisville over quite a few schools who were also offering her academic scholarships. She chose Louisville because they offered her not only a full ride academically, but also room and board and additional money.
She's smart enough to know that coming out of undergrad with $0 debt is a great way to start life.
Yes, I know. Even with all of the poor decisions the leadership made at UMD, they are still more desirable as a conference member than WVU.

I am enjoying our conversation. UMD had an ACC appeal, Big 10 not so sure. All I am trying to say is academic rankings are subjective. I went to the Naval Academy people will argue that we are the preeminent engineering school. I will tell you we had some ROTC’s at power school who were incredibly brilliant and they went to schools that never make list like NJIT. Power school in the navy is elite. And in the interest of full disclosure I think UMD is a crap hole
