Looks like Penn State, Pitt, and WVU did not make the Top 25 this year and they use criteria different from Federal Guidelines that counted Transfers. I think with all the Coaching Changes at Pitt, WVU and Penn State has impacted on all Three Programs too. In addition, actually this only compared the Top-25 teams in the CFB ranking.

Excerpts:
As it did last year, New America compiled the rankings by beginning with each school’s football graduation success rate (GSR). The GSR is an NCAA measure that, unlike the federal graduation rate, doesn’t penalize schools for having players who transfer or leave for the pros–as long as those players depart in good academic standing. The higher the school’s graduation success rate, the higher they start out in New America’s rankings.

Their rankings are laughable in many cases. Who decided this list-the SEC ??

Captain, I think they only ranked the TOP 25 in the football polls. In other words, if you didn't finish in the Top25 inn the polls, you were not rznked academically. Note that a lot of schools would have done much better than NC in the academic ranking if they had been ranked.

Here is the AFCA Academic Awards Winners but only Pitt:rolleyes::D:) and Temple:p:rolleyes::cool: are in them!

Penn State:oops::( and West Virginiao_O:eek::oops: missed the cut!

So much for all that Franklin's Penn State Graduation Talk?

Duke, Vanderbilt to Receive 2015 Academic Achievement!
This year’s award marks the eighth time the NCAA’s Graduation Success Rate (GSR) formula has been used to select the winner. From 1981 to 2007, the award was presented based on a formula used by the College Football Association and AFCA. Since 2008, the criteria for the AFCA’s Academic Achievement Award is based on the highest NCAA GSR, at least 15 students in the GSR Cohort, and a Federal Graduation Rate of 75 percent or better.

Sixty-three other institutions will be recognized for graduating 75 percent or more of their football student-athletes. Thirteen of those institutions:
Arkansas State, Boise State, Bowling Green State, Central Florida, Missouri, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Oregon State, Rice, South Carolina, Stanford, Virginia Tech and Western Kentucky — achieved a rate of 90 percent or better.

The remaining 50 institutions are:
Air Force, Alabama, Alabama-Birmingham, Baylor, Boston College, Clemson, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Hawaii, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Kent State, Louisiana-Lafayette, LSU, Marshall, Maryland, Miami (Fla.), Miami (Ohio), Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Navy, Nebraska, North Carolina State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh,:D:) Purdue, Rutgers, SMU, South Florida, Syracuse, TCU, Temple,:p:cool: Texas-San Antonio, Texas Tech, Troy, Tulane, Tulsa, UCLA, Utah, Utah State, Wake Forest, Washington State and Wisconsin.
ACC PROGRAMS
BIG TEN PROGRAMS

I put up the more reliable AFCA Graduation Awards with a Link too!

Alabama on that list totally discredits it. I'd be shocked if any football player there has been to a single class all season.
I disagree, once Bama became a location to Research US Defense Department Rocket Program right after WW II, Alabama became a leading Research University!

Senate Leader and later President Johnson made sure the South got Major Federal & Defense Dollars and located at Southern Universities to attract Top Talent, Brains, and increase Texas and other Southern Universities! NASA being located in Houston did not happen by Accident?

Much of these Federal Dollars went into Highway, Nuclear, Space, Defense, and others continued to expand Medical, Computers, and NIH and NSF funding.

Nothing against the university. Alabama like most other D1 schools, are all great universities. They're just such a power in football that most kids who go there have their sights set on the NFL already and couldn't care less about school.

Thanks Owtie, but Alabama like many other Southern Universities have increased their Research Dollars just like their Political Power increased. Philadelphia used to be the place where Defense Supplies once happen, until Newt Gingrich moved it to Georgia!

On 27 March 1794, the US Naval Department was officially created and 7 Ships were authorized to be built. Congress had 7 States build one ship each and the other 6 provided the wood? It is the American Way...all Federal Money is shared, and some with Committee Chairpersons get more than some others at times, but all get a share!

Alabama also has big research dollars and spread throughout the state not just one place!

Captain-
Recruitsreadtheseboards is right in that the big research money is at UAH or UAB. And while that is technically still under the UA umbrella, both of those schools have been operating with more and more autonomy lately. In fact, there is much resentment for their being controlled by UA Board of Directors.

In fact, with just some precursory checking, UA had only about $68M worth of research grant money listed. I may have missed some, but did not have time to dig too deep between patients. Compare that to Pitt's and PSU's numbers, and you can see that it really is not a huge research center.... or at least not the main campus.

Now, one place they do lead the nation in research and development..... college football. lol

I understand all you posted and thank you for augmenting the information. Just pointing out, there are Great Universities in the South and SEC, Big-12, and ACC and recognize their own contributions to their States and you are correct Government Funding is being less funded and replaced by Corporations.

Pitt and Penn State have been given big Research Funding dating back to the 1950s and has a jump on many!

Pitt and Bama in 1920-30s, as well as from 1976-1982 had some of the biggest Winning Percentages too in Football, and time PITT gets back to the Excellence Bama always has in Football! Penn State too!

Alabama on that list totally discredits it. I'd be shocked if any football player there has been to a single class all season.
This is what I always say about Pitt, they should let any football player in, all the way down to the NCAA minimum! If you can play football and get your SAT 750 or whatever the minimum is, your in! Who cares, If the 200 guys on the sports scholarships are below average, that wouldn't bring down the average if there are another 30000 regular students above average. 'Bama's football players might just be retards, but the rest of the student body brings up the average, so WHO CARES?

This entire ranking of the top 25 teams in the polls academically by the grades that football players get is laughable. You think the average Stanford player's grades wouldn't be a lot higher at Ole Miss or Houston than they are at the Farm?

Talk about comparing apples and oranges. Some of these internet guys who come up with this crap have too much time on their hands and too little grey matter in their heads.
