COST PROJECTIONS FOR NEW PITT STADIUM

There seems to be a fool ranting in the negative again. Angry and stupid are not anyway to progress. A lack of professional acumen on the subject appears often with these sorts. And the great play goes on; and you may contribute a verse. Wouldn't it be sad if all some did was contribute a "yinz"?
So what are your "facts" based on? Or let me narrow it down - was it tea leaves, a Ouija board, or a Magic 8-Ball?

Does "professional acumen" include a coloring book "rendition" of the stadium you want to extract $$$$ from??

Thank you. AD Barnes and President Gallagher have already commissioned an urban planning firm to design a new plan to build the new Pitt Stadium. Plus we have the GSPIA study.
Name of the "urban planning firm"?? Details of the contract?? We have sunshine laws in PA.

Let me translate for you NTOP. See, in the bizarro world of PittStadiumia, "facts" and "debate" actually means emotion and caps lock.

You are barking up the wrong tree. The only way you are going to win this argument is with colored pencils and multiple exclamation points. Oh, and "friends" who are civil engineers and urban planners.

Urban planners? Pittsburgh is notorious for the worst use of its land in the country. Sprawling here began with the crazy tax structure of Allegheny Co but continues today even with some surrounding counties increasing their real estate taxes. Not knocking the OP but details are key to analyzation!

don't listen to em Z, keep up the fight. Naysayers and cynics are the foundation of human accomplishments..

I'm waiting for a challenge to box.

He's hanging his hat on a plan from an adjunct teacher at a community college.

A plan that was created by an "urban planning firm" that doesn't exist.

I honestly appreciate the blind fandom, but I would love to discuss the prospects of a new on campus stadium based on concrete comments from the Administration, feasibility study results, legitimate renderings, etc. Anything other than hand-drawn sketches devoid of any significant engineering data not to mention realistic financial expectations.

And that's all well and good Swervin. Right up until a little thing called reality sets in.

Big dreams…I'm all for it. I'll buy 4 season tickets on the 50.
When Me and Z are pre gaming in Oakland, enjoying the pageantry of college football on a beautiful Saturday morning in Oakland,, then attending a game at a beautiful new venue with the cathedral as a backdrop, and finishing our afternoon off at Peters pub with some post celebratory beverages, we may or may not forgive you naysayers and invite you along. Your invitiation and apology is not confirmed yet..

You can dig up my long dusty bones and carry them with you, up the hill to a stadium that (according to the plan Z#2 pushes again and again and again, designed by a firm that doesn't exist) will be wedged against the Pete on one end, have Allequippa Street running under it, and snuggly connected to the Cost Center on the other end. Because I'm only 43 and I will be loooooooooooong dead before that plan comes to pass. Just do me a favor and slap a Pitt Script toque on my skull. I don't want to get cold as I expect that stadium to be a bit breezy on top of the hill.

well as enticing as that sounds, I believe I shall pass on this, leave your earthly remains to rest as me and Z would rather not carry around your remains Oakland.. Why is it cold?? because of the breeze? LOL, well that's a new one.. Can you just join the other old buzzards and complain about parking?

Continue with what? That's it. Me and Z freakin livin the dream in Oakland, getting weird at peters after the win.. That's as good as it gets and this will happen.. If 99% of all D1 programs can have their own stadium, pitt can too. We are not that unique to the rest of the world. The question is, does Z allow you to join in after all of your negativity, i'll see if I can talk him into it but as of now, it's not looking too good for you guys..

Absolutely, all welcome for positive debate!

Hey Z, eastcoasthoops wants us to dig up his corpse and bring it with us when this happens. What do you think Z, i'll be honest, not really thinking we'll do to well with the ladies if we have a dead body with us. Plus, we'd probably have to buy him a ticket and I don't even know what the doorman at Peters would say to us if we are dragging this thing in with us. Just sounds like an all around bad idea..

I guess the image of a skeleton being carried up Sutherland with a Pitt Script hat was lost on your sense of humor.

I am no engineer but the drawing looks crude. I can even imagine where the parking will be but have at it. Where are all the supporting drawings with side views, structural views, details, etc. ?

Also, no need to attack us for asking questions as we are all PITT fans

Please, your are the attackers. The facts have always been my presentation and posts. Not one foul word nor acrimonious phrase. Now the worm turns and you want facts? Ask Crazy Paco to post the ENTIRE GSPIA plan ~ which he has. Pitt has already commissioned a new plan when Gallagher and Barnes began their tenures. People you think have no voice have already been consulted. The quiet work on gaining consensus most assuredly will not take place on this board.

Whoa Whoa Whoa, you said nothing about wearing a script hat. I just assumed you'd be dressed in some boring black suit.. This changes everything.. Eastcoast, consider it done. Z, we're bringing him with us, i'll pay for his drinks and ticket..

This will be a weekend at bernies, Oakland style. Looking forward to it. Sadly, you'll still probably pull more wool out of Peters than me..

Thanks for sharing your information on this matter. I promise you that I will never report you for your acrimony. I believe it accomplishes a great deal on my behalf to read your posts.

Doing well has never been a problem for me at Peter's. ;)

If a new Pitt football stadium is built on campus in the next 10 years, you'll get my apology. But I'm not gonna hold my breath as I wait for it to happen, nor should you.

Do you have an estimate for the border wall Mexico will build if Trump wins?? Which renowned architect provided those silly numbers?? And what's in it for you??
You had me until the "what's in it for you" jab. We all act in our own self interests. That is an essential part of our being. If we had not, we would not survive.

I think Paco said it best, IF there is some fact gathering study on the possibility of this endeavor, I doubt we fans ever see it and probably never even hear about it in the first place..

This is what is known as a "schematic" drawing. It's those details you mention where dollars can really add up.
For what it is worth, that little club section at the Pete was insisted upon by SP well after design drawings were finalized and construction underway. That single, but significant, change added up to millions in cost overruns. The redesign and reengineering costs were (rightfully so) terribly expensive.
It was that blunder alone that cost Pitt serious credibility in Harrisburg and DGS and from which Pitt has never fully recovered.

OK, so I usually don't partake in the On-Campus Stadium banter, but I decided to check out Z#2's "plan". Is this Z#2 the author of this plan? and why does this urban design firm not have a corporate website in 2016? I don't want to be completely rude, because someone obviously spent a bunch of time on this "plan" or study, but if one presented this "plan" at a real corporate meeting they would be laughed out of the conference room. The quality of this "study" is something that I would expect from a high-school student (albeit an honors student probably). To call the assumptions and proposals presented in this "plan" as facts is probably stretching it.

For future considerations you may want to use real architectural drawings and designs in a future rendition. Most serious investors and governments types don't really accept crude MS Paint shapes pasted onto google maps aerials as a serious design plan.

On a personal note, I loved Pitt Stadium, when I was a student. Now that I am an adult with a family, I am glad that we play at Heinz Field. I'm sure that you have never tried to get a 4 year old up Cardiac Hill, from whatever far flung parking lot you had to park at because there is zero parking in Oakland. I guess that I am just one of your suburbanites that isn't with it because I care enough about my children to not have them go to Pittsburgh Public Schools. You may need to grow up a bit and learn to look at things from other peoples perspectives, especially with this Stadium Plan of yours, because contrary to your thoughts, the majority of people going to the games are not students and twenty-somethings with no families

I like the enthusiasm of Z and Swervin. Every AD wants to leave their mark on a program and if it can be done it will be. I'm not going to diss this, u never know.

LOL.

You're relentless, I'll give you that.

But there isn't going to be a stadium on campus in your lifetime. Or your kids' lifetimes.

This is the correct answer. I had a bigger issue with tearing down Pitt Stadium than I did with moving to Heinz--as it left very few options should the decision prove to be wrong or wanted to be reversed in the future. Hail to Pitt!

A lot of us did. No turning back at this point. We're stuck with the Rooneys' whims. It would have cost over $100 million back then to update Pitt Stadium, let alone the cool idea to link the Stadium to a new gym on the OC lot.....but the will wasn't there....and the talent required wasn't either. Hope all is going well for you.

My design crushes that website...
