Dakich on Huggins

How do you know he was drunk? It wouldn't surprise me from what I've heard of his habits but you don't know that to be stating something as fact in public. And a "shithole state?"

He sounded drunk and I am cutting Huggy some slag. He wouldn't say that sober. And you think WV isnt a shithole state? That is such a depressing drive when I head to south. Like driving through a 3rd world country.

It's actually a beautiful state. I love making the drive up for a game in mid to late October when the leaves start to turn.

I have to drive through WV next week on my way south, and I'm not looking forward to it. I try and have enough gas to get me through the state so the next stop I make will be in VA. Such an endlessly boring drive through WV. There is virtually nothing there.

West Virgina is a beautiful state.

Now.... Ohio, Indiana, those states are ugly

If you know so much about it, tell how he knew. Did he see a kid getting abused? Did a kid tell Joe that Jerry was abusing him? Did Jerry tell him?

Those are the only ways he could possibly know for sure.

Who else knew? Anybody from The Second Mile? Anybody that worked at the Second Mile? Any case workers, etc? Anybody from Jerry's family?

It's as if you don't know, or I guess this is just another example of your willful ignorance, that there were rumors about Sandusky for many years before he final got arrested. Do you think that all those rumors were out there because people were just maliciously slandering your boy Jerry? Do you think that all those stories were out there but Paterno never heard any of them, or looked into them when he heard them?

You want to hang your whole argument on a technicality. Well, Joe never saw Jerry screwing a little boy, so there was no way he could know that he did anything. You've never (I assume) seen Jerry abusing a kid. Jerry never told you that he abused kids. So simple question, did Jerry abuse kids or not? By your logic, you have no way of knowing.

Because you are willfully oblivious.

Hey, we don't even know if Huggins will be alive much longer. He's not young and he's terribly out-of-shape, fat, and I'm sure his cholesterol and triglycerides are through the roof. He's a heart attack waiting to happen. If he's alive much more than a couple of years longer, it will be a gift to him. Next stop for Huggins: TV on the My Life as a 600 lb. Man.
already had one.

The older I get the more I realize that, in general, human beings are stupid.
Dinosaurs ruled earth for millions of years.
I give humans another 50-100.
We are greedy, selfish creatures.
Animals kill to live, humans kill for fun.
There are tons of animals that have been observed killing for fun. Have you not ever owned a cat or dog?

Well 3 years before the McQuery incident, there was the other incident that a mother reported to the police. You know, the one that Spanier, Curley, and Schultz testified to know nothing about until the emails surfaced showing that they had been actively discussing it at the time and talked about "coach" getting anxious about the investigation. You know, the one where they didn't register the complaint with the HR department or record it in University records even though the police were investigating it.

But Joe didn't know anything about any of that, it was just pure coincidence that when his schedule for that year was uncovered it showed that he went back to State College in the middle of a fundraising trip, cancelled a vacation and all other events for 2.5-week period that lasted until a few days after the DA decided not to press charges. Must have caught a flu. Maybe Jerry also caught it when he was forced to retire after that season.

I'm sure that the 1998 incident was the only instance where coach and the officials lied about their knowledge...except for the 2001 incident also. Oh and the kid that was forced to apologize to Jerry and the AD(potentially) for accusing Jerry of sexual assault in 1988 that was backed up by a Nittany House internal document. But I'm sure everyone was honest about having no knowledge of the other allegations.

I used to do that so gas is cheaper in WV than PA now so I stop in Morgantown for gas then gas up again in Wytheville, VA.

The creepiest rest stop we ever made was somewhere off the turnpike in Pennsyltucky. Had to drive about 2 or 3 miles off the turnpike to get gas at this old fashion one pump station. Went into the store to pay and it was one of those old grocery store/video store/convenient store. The whole vibe was so creepy, like out of a horror movie. My wife was legit terrified.

Or a bit like driving through 3/4ths of western PA.

You must not get out much. We had to drive through WV last week and it was and always is the most tortuous drive of the whole trip down to SC. Driving in WPA, VA, NC and SC is pleasant and there's actually civilization in those states. We've been doing this for over 40 years and it never changes. Not even close.

Please! Talk about not getting out much. You clearly haven't trucked through most of Beaver County, or Uniontown, or Clairton, or McDonald, or Ambridge, or or or the list goes on. Talk about shit-hole areas..........

Or, if you'd like, just take a walk around downtown Pittsburgh. Talk about a city that is a shell of its former self.

I agree....those places you mentioned are not nice places. But still much better than any place in WV. I also agree that during the last 2 administrations and in the current political climate in Pittsburgh, the city isn't a very nice place. Especially under the current mayor, it's not as safe as it used to be. But I doubt the idiot voters in Pittsburgh will change much and will keep voting in these jokers. I don't live in Pittsburgh so I have no say in that. I fortunately live in a quiet, safe suburb. I only go there when forced to....an event, doctor (but I'm changing all of them to closer to home). That's about it.

Just stop. Had you not paid any attention to politics, you would have no opinion on the safeness of Pittsburgh. Its not any different than its ever been. Murder rates are up nationally mainly due to the rising popularity of drugs that we haven't seen since the crack cocaine 80s. Probably close to 100% of Pgh murders were either drug related or targeted. If you dont sell drugs and don't frequent Homewood, Arlington, etc, you are going to be just as safe as walking down your suburban sidewalk

Right, with the homeless defecating on Smithfield and begging for drug money. It literally stinks there. I see that all the time on my sidewalks in my neighborhood. And whose fault is it that, especially recently, we see so many drugs, especially fentanyl, appearing in our cities?? Drugs from Communist China by way of the southern border? Facts are facts.

I have worked downtown for many years and those homeless people have been there as long as I can remember. I believe that church right there serves as a homeless shelter. Believe me, Pittsburgh is ABSOLUTELY no different than it ever was. You are never there and are getting your information from an echo chamber. The opioid crisis has produced more drug dealers/murders but that's the only reason murders are slightly up across the country.

If you walked around the parts of Pittsburgh where people that dont live there go (Oakland, downtown, stadiums, etc), you would notice absolutely no difference between 1993, 2003, 2013, or 2023.

There have always been homeless people downtown but it’s gotten worse over the last decade. Not sure what the solution is, but it isn’t whatever we’ve been doing.

MAZZULLA.
Is going to the NBA Finals. I’ll finish your thought.

But again, why would WVU want a young African American alum who coached a team to the NBA finals after being put in a difficult situation getting people to buy in. No college kids want to be coached by Jayson Tatum’s NBA coach. That’s for sure…

Maybe you don't notice it because you work downtown and see it everyday...so the change for you isn't nearly as noticeable because you only see it in very minimal ways day to day. But, I used to live in Pittsburgh and the last time I visited this past year I was shocked at how rundown & dirty the city was and how bad the homeless situation was. We ate outside in the market square next to PPG and the beggars approaching us for handouts was out of control.

My analogy is if you see a kid every day, you don't notice how much they have changed over a year or two period. But, if you hadn't seen that kid for a year or two, the changes are immediately noticeable. So, you can argue all you want that the city is the same. But, you would be wrong.

Haha. Georgetown hired an African American alum that was an 11 time NBA All-Star and had his number retired by the Kincks. Didn't seem to move the needle much.

I don't think college kids give a crap about Jayson Tatum's NBA coach. Nobody cared that Avery Johnson coached Jason Kidd & Dirk Nowitzki in the NBA and took a team to the Finals. Or if they did, they seem to like Nate Oats a little more.

There is no excuse for Boston to have to go 7 games to take out the Heat. That's still not exactly a given. For whatever reason, the homecourt advantage hasn't meant much to this team, going back to last year.

Yeah sure, comparing big man Patrick Ewing (big men are notoriously bad coaches) who was never a head coach at any level to PG Joe Mazulla with a college head job and an NBA finals head job that will send him to the NBA seems reasonable. Again, you know more than everyone else in the country apparently

*whispers very loudly* YOU DONT YOURE VERY WRONG IT WOULD BE A HOMERUn

The channel 2 news has done numerous stories over the past year or so about how much worse it's gotten. Several times when I've been at my mother's house and she has the channel 4 news on they've had similar stories.

Just out of curiosity, are the local reporters for channel 2 and channel 4 part of the echo chamber?

Or, wait, I think I've got it, this is another one of those things that you know for a fact that happens to be completely wrong.

I dont watch local news so I dont know what their agenda is though all news do like to sell fear. Fear is great for ratings. Murders are up everywhere. I know its just one day but I was reading Triblive yesterday and there were 3 plus a 28 year old woman dead on the street (drug OD I guess). These werent Pittsburgh but nearby. 1 was McCandless. 1 was a bar fight in Baldwin I think or somewhere around there. 1 was Wilkinsburg. My guess is that "dumb murders" are also up. I would categorize shooting someone in a bar fight or a domestic murder as a dumb murder because it wasnt necessary. No murder is necessary but drug murders are, in a way, an agreed form of combat. They know what they are getting into. But you are seeing more and more dumb murders, at least it seems this way.

As for downtown, Oakland, North Side, where people go, I honestly haven't noticed a difference.

It would be a lazy, mediocre hire at best.

Patrick Ewing, Chris Mullin, Sidney Lowe, Penny Hardaway...

That's a big pile of garbage HCs that have led their alma maters to somewhere between failure & mediocrity. One big man in the group.

But Joe Top-Golf Mazzulla would be a homerun? Okay.

Literally zero of those guys have the resume Mazulla has of calling actual timeouts. So again, you’re insanely wrong, but keep spitting in the wind

In regards to big men as coaches. Phil Jackson and Don Nelson say hello.

It’s absolute insanity that I have to convince this thread that the head coach of the Boston Celtics who is a WVU alum would be a fantastic hire for West Virginia University. I mean INSANE.

That’s like saying Pat Narduzzi wouldn’t be a good hire for Pine Richland.

what don’t you understand about what I said? None of those guys you mentioned called one timeout in a game before they were head coaches. This one will be doing it in the NBA finals. You’re wrong
What are you talking about? Sidney Lowe coached in the NBA for years.

Avery Johnson isn't a Bama alum, but he coached for several years in the NBA.

What's your point?

Sydney lowe was 79-228.

As you said, Avery Johnson WASNT a Bama alum.

What are we even doing here? You were insanely wrong in this argument. How can you not just fade away?

This is insanity at this point.

If you can’t compare a guy in their 50’s 150 games under .500 to a NBA Finals coach in their 30’s, are you even doing it right?
