Is there any possibility that Dick Groat will come back for some games to do the color ? I really miss his comments before, during and after the game.

Even at his age he'd be 100 times better than Motor Mouth Corey Alexander. When you are doing color especially on tv you shouldn't say more than the pxp guy, and he does.Dont get me wrong the guy has knowledge but you can over use it.The only shame about Dick is, he didn't call it quits on his own apparently the decision was made for him.

I noticed that they removed the empty chair they had honoring him next to the announcers table.

IMO Aiken is awful ( and I listen to the radio feed every game)

Let's get someone like Krauser or Blair as a 3rd announcer to go with who we have. That would be entertaining.

Sad.....but true. Very frustrating to listen while driving.
Once ya listen to the away team broadcast in SiriusXM -
You realize how truly awful Pitt broadcast are.

hillgrove loves Pitt - but he has no idea how to communicate what is happening . He makes so many mistakes on football - which is so much slower , that poor Bostic has to correct -

hoops is simply too fast for him.

and groat did nothing but say “wow “ for the last 8 years as contribution .

like was said they are Pitt icons ...just suck it up and listen to them. more important things in life than a college basketball announcer, sorry to disagree but I don’t mind them true Pitt fans

Dick has been back for a few games. He is happy to say hi to people and loves watching pitt play. He was suprised as any when bill told him about not coming back. Both were unhappy and sad but dick told everyone he understood the way he does. I’m 45 now and have floor seats all because when I was 11 dick got me hooked on pitt basketball as I listened to him on the radio not sure how he did it. It he just got me hooked and the more I found about him the more I was amazed of the athlete he was and how nice and into pitt that He was. When we lost to nova I simply turned off the tv went up stairs in my room and listened to Groat a little. I knew he felt my pain. I would have listened to him on whatever topic he wants to talk about.

Satellite radio really was a game changer, there are both really good and really bad local broadcasters out there across the country.

Really gave me a different perspective when that option became available.

Excellent post and very touching. Personally, I don't care how much the man may stumble on his words today. He's forgotten more about basketball than anyone on this board can ever hope to know. Especially judging from the crude posts being made nowadays by certain posters (that I happily have on Ignore now), they could learn a lot from listening to Mr. Groat and showing some respect for his wisdom and knowledge, not just of the game but of life. Mr. Groat is all class and deserves all the respect in the world for his considerable accomplishments.

Unfortunately ,he hasn’t been able communicate ate any of that wisdom and knowledge on the radio broadcast for about 15 years .
Having a play by play guy who likewise can’t keep up with the action and makes constant errors didn’t help .

Yes - accurately broadcasting the game is the core competency of a radio broadcaster .

but - I get that you empathize with someone put of step snd way past their prime . :)

I have agreed with and enjoyed many of your posts. And maybe it was time for Mr. Groat to step down. But he was and still is a remarkable person, has accomplished so much in the sports arena, is a Pitt fan, and should be regarded as such. Go Pitt.

Right. But he can still be regarded as having accomplished a lot while acknowledging he is no longer fit for a job.

Would any of yinz want a famous, accomplished surgeon who is 95 and unable to perform surgery operating on you? This isn’t any different.

The problem with some on here is that they believe that once a person reaches a certain advanced age, they have no value. That seems to be the case with American society in general, shamefully. Americans, and many of the posters on this site, could learn a lot about respect for elders from the Japanese. But I doubt that will happen, considering who we're talking about.

Are you being deliberately obtuse or is it happening on accident?

In my field and at the company I work for, we have people working into their 70's....well into their 70's, and they have the knowledge and experience that we desperately need. They provide the most value to the company of all. And many of the millenials that we try to hire can't keep up with them in knowledge, ability, experience or physical effort. They were brought on board to learn from the veterans but instead dismiss their knowledge and experience. Unfortunately, they're also not as smart as they think they are and they are resistant to learn from those who know a lot more than they do. Not all millenials are like that, obviously. But that seems to be the norm for them.

They'll be in for a rude awakening when they're fired for cause, because they're incapable of learning and didn't do their jobs.

Just not as a radio broadcaster for the previous 15 years

Which is the topic

OK. But they contribute. Other than...

UUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHH
WOW! WOWOW!
MMRNBRPHHHHH!!!!

Mr. Groat hadn't contributed anything else to broadcasts in well over 10 years.

Mr. Groat not broadcasting anymore perhaps is valid. The disrespectful way you expressed it is bothersome.

That is unfortunate how disrespectful many are toward each other and particularly the elderly. I agree....Dick Groat was past his prime for broadcasting. But that doesn't diminish his knowledge and value as an expert and analyst.

What was disrespectful about stating the truth?
He added no value to the radio broadcast .
Literally - he was a color guy who could barely talk , only grunted out wows occasionally .

it’s not a Supreme Court appointment - he was getting paid to be a broadcaster and he was awful at it.

Uhhhh
Wow!
That was a foul, billy!
Wow
