I was driving home from the basketball game, and he was raving about all the improvements Pitt has made to their facilities. It was very Pro-Pitt. That was about an hour and 15 minutes ago.

Maybe Fickel is holding out for something he considers better. Open jobs are slim right now, but maybe next year something he really wants opens up.

It was reported that not only did Fickel turn the job down but that the Colorado coach did, too. I didn’t think Narduzzi was that convincing the other day but you have to wonder if he’d take it if it’s out there that two others turned it down.

Oddly, Detroit Free Press isn’t reporting that Fickel has turned the job down, so I don’t know where that was reported.

If true, then a bad start for MSU.

Not getting your top 2 targets.

After all, when a G-5 head coach and UC head coach do not want the job, makes the next guy taking the job look like a 3rd place fill in.

Do not think Narduzzi would be interested as the "fill in".;)

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

According to both the Detroit Free Press and WLW Cincinnati, the MSU AD landed in Cin city Saturday night ((Feb 8) and will interview Fickel today the 9th.
I haven't seen Fickel publicly refuse anything. While he might say NO, I don't know where you guys are getting your information that he already has.
MSU is not in the driver's seat and they can make a young guy such as Fickel an offer so sweet he will have a hard time saying no.

I was just posting what Dickerson was ranting about on the fan yesterday after the BB game.

Wherever he got it I have no idea.

The original poster is correct dorin we t off on this rant after yesterday’s game . Said duzz could still leave for the $$$$ . Infuriating dorin is a pitt guy why bring that up

Talking negative about your former team is Rule 1A to make a name for yourself. You see guys doing this all the time.

I still don't think Narduzzi would leave after tweeting out a sweet video and making a statement. Fickell never indicated he wasn't going to leave, just that Michigan State didn't talk to him. I also think he could do better if he waited another year or two.

I heard Dorin yesterday too. Got in my car and heard him talking and immediately thought what the hell happened? Did Narduzzi get an offer?

Dorin was all over this. He said Fickell had turned it down. Another caller said CSU coach turned them down too. Dorin’s basic point was that if they are desperate, and they are already comfortable with Narduzzi, all they have to do is dangle the money and he didn’t think Pitt could match.

Put me in a bad mood that he would bring this up (yes i know it’s his job)

Another caller made some great points. The fan talks all the time about how mediocre Narduzzi is. Not a good recruiter. But when MSU opens up, it’s a no-brainer he’d go there and do really well. Caller said which is it?? Sucks as a coach, or a no-brainer for a big ten school.

I agree and get tired of this hometown bs.

Read the articles referenced above and it sounds like Fickell is interviewing today. IMO, no way he turns this kind of opportunity down. Big time jobs don’t come open every day.

I have to agree. If I'm Fickell and they're dangling big $$, you can't turn it down.

All it takes is a few injuries and you can have a mediocre year at Cincinnati and then poof! You're off the radar.

Agree with both of you. For a non-P5 HC, an upper level P5 job ought to be pretty tough to turn down. Despite some of the issues there, MSU is still an upper level P5 job and not a traditional doormat. Fickell would be taking a career risk if he is offered and declines an opportunity at MSU, IMO. Be interesting to see what happens.

Let's review:

DD is a local kid who played at Pitt. Didnt play for PN, but he played at Pitt.

He has been in the radio business for 12-18 months. Before that he had done nothing to suggest he is qualified or connected in the area of coaching decisions.

We discuss this because DD is a panther,

Absent that, this entire board would be destroying him.

I respect the kid, but he knows as much (or better yet, as little) as I do.

That, plus, his job is stimulate conversation and get people to listen and call in. His opinions are his own and they carry no more or less weight than anyone else's. So much of talk radio is about manufacturing controversy.

Dorin is a narcissistic idiot - always has been. He is just stirring up controversy to try and make a name for himself as he was on the verge of being shitcanned at that station earlier this year

Seriously? What more do you want??????

HCPN's remarks at the press conference about the MSU job were hardly clear and unequivocal and I wasn't alone in thinking that as the guys on The Fan made similar comments. I guess the tweet was sending a clear message (which he wouldn't have needed had he simply taken a clearer stance). Still, if things went a certain direction I doubt the fact that he posted a tweet would stop him from leaving. Appears Dorin was misinformed about FIckell, in any event. Not saying that Narduzzi has any interest in the MSU job, it just wouldn't have shocked me if he had left.

The coach at CSU was just hired there (Addazio, formerly at Boston College). The coach who turned down MSU was from the other Colorado (the U. of, you know, the one in the PAC 12).

He sounded like me. I don't think any coach would ever coach Pitt for less money. Narduzzi isnt exactly in good graces here.....similar to Chryst in a way. He's a bad season away from being on the hot seat. If MSU gives him a raise that we wont match, he'd be pretty foolish not to take it

I find it interesting Pat Narduzzi has turned down two B10 programs, despite being a B10-defense first type of coach.
