Is wrestling NIL coming through the 412 Alliance or the PWC?It’s tough to say exactly because I don’t know how active NC State & VT are. We definitely had guys use NIL’s so they got over their scholarship amount this year.

I would love to see his high school QPA and his SAT scores that got him 100% academic scholarship.Another thing with wrestling is some of these guys get academic scholarships along with their wrestling scholarships. Jason Nolf either had 100% or close to 100% academic scholarship.
Not sure about his high school numbers but he was a four-time Academic All-Big Ten, three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, and three-time Academic All-American. His cumulative GPA is 3.72.I would love to see his high school QPA and his SAT scores that got him 100% academic scholarship.
Nolf supposedly had a 4.5 GPA in high school. Regardless, its a game the Ivy schools play all the time. Not sure about his high school numbers but he was a four-time Academic All-Big Ten, three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, and three-time Academic All-American. His cumulative GPA is 3.72.
I am not saying that he is not smart or not a good student. My grandson had a 4.5 gpa in HS, a 1600 on sat, and 36 on ACT tests. He was unable to get more than a 30% academic scholarship at Pitt or PSU. Of course, he is not a d1 athlete. Not sure about his high school numbers but he was a four-time Academic All-Big Ten, three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, and three-time Academic All-American. Athletes get some special treatment, no doubt.I am not saying that he is not smart or not a good student. My grandson had a 4.5 gpa in HS, a 1600 on sat, and 36 on ACT tests. He was unable to get more than a 30% academic scholarship at Pitt or PSU. Of course, he is not a d1 athlete.
Dylan Evans is in the finals as wellAnyone following the Pitt guys at the PIAA states? Mackay is in the finals
To anyone who knows, what is the plan for MacKay? Interesting that he and Evans are both 160lbers right now. Can see Evans being a career 165, but it seems like MacKay may have the frame to grow into a 184. He is pretty tall and lean. Have to think he adds some beef in collegeGrant McKay just won his 2nd state title in a pretty convincing fashion.
Special treatment like you’re alluding to is illegal. You can’t give an “academic scholarship” to someone because they’re an athlete. Pitt and PSU are extremely competitive academically and give out very little scholarship money. That’s not how PSU is paying for their extra wrestling scholarships. They’ve been using club money for a while now.Athletes get some special treatment, no doubt.
Wouldn’t it be better if one of them moved down considering Luca is at 184 and there seems to be a void at 157?To anyone who knows, what is the plan for MacKay? PSU has academic scholarships that one qualifies for by having a certain weight and height while being able to defeat a current wrestler. You can't give an academic scholarship to someone just because they are an athlete, but you can, and schools absolutely do, point athletes to academic scholarships that they can get that they might not otherwise even know about.
And there are absolutely times and schools where being an athlete is a plus when applying for an academic scholarship and helps someone get an academic scholarship that they might not ordinarily get.
Every school that wants to compete for NCs in nonrevenue sports with limited scholarships knows how to find academic scholarships for athletes that qualify.PSU has academic scholarships that one qualifies for by having a certain weight and height while being able to defeat a current wrestler.
Yes, but it is against ncaa rules.Every school that wants to compete for NCs in nonrevenue sports with limited scholarships knows how to find academic scholarships for athletes that qualify.

Luca is at 174. Heller is at 184. Neither MacKay or Evans would be a day 1 starter at 157. Sounds like Keslar has the inside track at that spot at current.Wouldn’t it be better if one of them moved down considering Luca is at 184 and there seems to be a void at 157?

I definitely agree with you on Maddox Shaw, hopefully he doesn’t go his brothers path of the North Carolina.I’d be targeting Maddox Shaw. Joe Simon is another recruit but he did not participate in the post season due to injury. Talented kid but hasn’t been able to stay healthy
His win was not that solid. He got 2 penalty points to be ahead 3-1 and stalled for 3 periods. In college he would have been called for stalling. Church was trying to tie match up in 3rd period with a takedown, but lost the TD. I would still like to have him at Pitt. We’ll probably never get him but I would love Colin Gaj from quakertown, he would slot in at 149 in 2yrs, he just beat Mac Church(VT Recruit) solidly, those are the types we need to beat top programs for.
Hopefully he sees that hasnt worked out perfectly so farI definitely agree with you on Maddox Shaw, hopefully he doesn’t go his brothers path of the North Carolina.
Agree. I was dismayed to hear that the two West A guys are going to WVU. GrossI don’t care about Penn State, we won’t beat them, they get who they want, and most there lineup is not PA. We cannot be losing to WV, VT, NC State, and Lehigh. It happens way to often, and with more success and a brand new facility coming we have no excuses.
I think we will need a transfer at 133 at the very least. I think we are at least solid everywhere else. Maybe a one year 157 if Kelsar hasnt taken enough of a step. Not sure how to feel about Badgett. He isnt a hole but he doesnt make the weight a strength either. Feel like he might be maxxed out in the 25-40 ranking range. Love rooting for him but there are just some matches that you just know that he has no shot inHopefully we can land a decent transfer this off season. Is mcmillen been a bust so far or what’s going on there? He was a huge recruit
Me too, waters would look awfully good at 149 for usAgree. I was dismayed to hear that the two West A guys are going to WVU. Gross
It been that way for decades at all the schools. Essentially the clubs set them up with lucrative camp deals. They go work a few summer camps and they quickly earn enough money. We had Iowa wrestlers work a camp at my WPIAL school. You have two guys work a camp with 30-40 kids all paying $50 a piece. They would easily made enough to cover tuition.Special treatment like you’re alluding to is illegal. You can’t give an “academic scholarship” to someone because they’re an athlete. I never alluded to that, youre putting words in my mouth. My actual point was, kids get in school with lower academics than non athletes on many occasions. Especially those that qualify for financial aid and dont eat up scholarship money. My third time going through this.Special treatment like you’re alluding to is illegal.
