cant get a read on him. Seemed like it was a done deal once we offered now it seems like we aren’t even recruiting him. Not sure I understand this play. Anyone have a better feel on the situation than me

Sounds like we’re still staying in contact, at least according to a PG article from this week.

“Pitt is also recruiting Gordon, but don’t expect him to take an official visit to his hometown school. He said there might not be a need to considering he has been there so many times. The Panthers are heavily involved in Gordon’s recruitment. Gordon said he and Pitt coach Jeff Capel message daily, even during the team’s recent trip to Italy.“

I feel Pitt believes they are recruiting "bigger fish" than Gordon. Whether that's smart or not or think they'll land those guys, is a whole other discussion. I think if they wanted Gordon, they could get him, but it appears they are keeping him at arm's length and would love to see where their top targets decide to go to first. It's great to feel positive about a player or two, but that isn't a sure thing in recruiting, since there are no sure things in recruiting.

I would take Gordon and Collier now. Then you can concentrate on getting a center and a point. That seems like it could take awhile.

Yea this pretty much. They can and should recruit higher level guys. And hell why not. Shoot for the stars. But you better be damn sure you’re gonna land them at some point if that’s the game they’re playing.

I know we’re all different but if I was being held off at some point I might say “bleep them” I’m going where I’m really wanted. And with all the egos out there that’s probably not a small thing.

I don’t know if Pitt is slow playing Gordon but IMO it would be a mistake. Has improved his game a ton over the past year. Long, athletic, and his best BB is ahead of him. I feel he is underrated nationally.

Is it fair to say he is similar to DJ Kennedy at the same stage?

Hmmm...I think like Kennedy was Gordon is not getting the recruiting attention a player of his talent would normally get. Kennedy was more physically mature as far as strength. But if ppl are looking at Gordon’s thin frame as a negative I think it’s a mistake as he is going to fill out with a college weight program and training table.

Where they are similar is in how versatile they are. Gordon at this point can defend a college 1, 2 or 3. He is excellent in the open court. In the half court he scores on all 3 levels. Gordon is clearly is a hard worker if you look at how much he has improved in the past year. That’s what impresses me the most. A year or so ago he was really just a driver. Now he has a real good mid range game and has developed a solid J.

I think with his athletic ability, versatility and length Gordon has a high ceiling. He may not be a star right away but he has loads of potential and when it all comes together he will be really good.

Right on Gary! When we land our first class of top 100's under Jeff Capel, then and only then, should we consider slow playing recruits.

I think they are just in on alot of wings, and most of them are more highly regarded. I hope it isn't like last year, where every 4/5 we went after and looked in decent shape with went elsewhere.

Its good to see him coming in again this weekend on another UNOV. But that's ok because I seen what he said about how he feels about Pitt and I think he really wants to be here it's up to JC.

Agree, like Gary2 said earlier, we definitely take Gordon and Collier now. These are good, good players that can contribute and continue Pitt’s ascension up the ACC ladder. Let’s get some nailed down!
