Duke Game Thread

Great game by Hinson. Pretty funny to have a Khalid El Amin moment (they were #1 in the country or close) when you’re getting to 2-5 in the ACC and the CBI bubble. But he was insane tonight.

Poor Vader who blamed all of Pitt’s struggles on Hinson.

Freshman are growing up. Blake and Fede finally showed up. Playing much better since Lowe's improvement and Leggett's return from injury.

Didn't that make his point?
No. Vader’s point was and always is, don’t blame the coaches for anything, blame the players I’ve touted for years for Pitt’s struggles. Blake has been a streaky shooter for 2 years for us. When he was on last year it was a bonus because we had other good players. When he was on against WVU, we didn’t hear shit about it from Vader because the coaches’ looked good. Then he struggled because ppl keyed on him and he took bad shots so he blamed the players.

I don’t think any game is strictly the players or coaches fault. But if you are gonna hype players the coaches recruit, then shit on them when they are in a slump, you’re the worst kind of fan.

Because the independent contractors whose livelihoods depend on being impartial decided they would cheat Pitt in a critical moment. I agree with you. That’s very plausible.

So why can't you answer those two simple questions?

I mean we all know why, but come on, if you refuse to answer the questions at least tell us why.

There’s no point. It goes up, then goes right. It was clear as day it hit his pinkie. Hence why they reversed the call. But yeah, Duke conspiracy. I’ll send you the clip I have if you send me your email. It’s clear as day.

I am not a blame the ref guy. In fact I hate that crap. But I have rarely seen such scrutiny on 50/50 plays that would benefit one team over the other get such attention. That was garbage.

First of all, I have never once said that there was any conspiracy. Ever time the refs blow a call it's not a conspiracy, no matter how much some people might want to think so.

But again, if it was clear as day why did it take five minutes to see it? If it was clear as day, why after looking at it for three minutes did they tell Sheyer that it did not touch Carrington? What happened in minute five of reviewing the call that was different than the four minutes that came before that?

There is no way, and I mean that literally, that they had enough evidence to change that call. And the fact that it took them so long to do it is the proof of that.

Is it theoretically possible that it touched Carrington? Yes. Is there anything on any of those replays that PROVES it? No. Is there anything that was on those replays after five minutes that wasn't there in the first four minutes that was indisputable? No.

With an 11-7 record and a top ten win to our name, this team is officially alive!!
It’s a big win for sure and it at least keeps some hope alive for this season moving forward if they can win these next two games on the road this week at Georgia Tech on Tuesday which would be a Quad 2 win and at Miami next weekend which would be another Quad 1 win. If they can get to 13-7 overall and 4-5 in the ACC with a home game against a good Wake Forest team coming up after that then you can start creeping back potentially into tournament conversation again. Realistically though if Pitt wants any hope of getting back into tournament conversation they need to win the next 4 games at Georgia Tech, at Miami, and home to Wake Forest and home to Notre Dame. If they can do that somehow they would be 15-7 overall and 6-5 in the ACC with some very good wins on their resume and then they could potentially creep back up on the bubble at that point.

Ok. It was right in front of me. I asked for your email you either want the video or not I don’t care. Either way I’m going to top of the hill to drink

Whether it was right in front of you or you were in China doesn't have anything at all to do with what you could see on the replay. And that's what the refs are supposed to go by, not by what someone who had the play right in front of them thinks.

Ok. I don’t think there was some conspiracy. I don’t think it should take more than 60 seconds. I’m 99 percent sure it hit Pitt on the second bounce. All of those things can be true.

Also can be true, it didn’t matter. Duke could’ve got 10 more reviews, it was the Panthers night. I’m going to live it up with a former Duke national champion, I suggest you have a cocktail and relax as well

It wasn't a conspiracy, it was a blown call.

Since you were at the game and didn't actually get to see the replays, know that they showed it over and over and over again, frame by frame, blown up as much as they could. And every time they showed it Durham and Bonner both agreed that there was nothing at all there that they could use to overturn the call. Bonner kept pointing out that you couldn't see the ball hit Carrington, the ball didn't change direction (in the replays) and the spin on the ball didn't change. And he would say that because of that the call should clearly stand.

And then it didn't.

Anyway, buy that Dukie a drink. He probably needs it after this one!

Clear is day is a full stretch. The ball rotation didn’t move and the announcers agreed you can’t overturn that there was no indisputable evidence that should overturn the call. Duke got some home cooking on that one and non of us should have been surprised.

No. He buys the flights and the drinks. He played a while in the NBA after all. We have a standing bet in all Duke Pitt sports. So his turn tonight.

You're saying u seen it better live than zooming in on replay?

And honestly, he could’ve played much better. Gonna be special.

Lowe is the best player on this team by a substantial margin. His vision, leadership, ability to get open and to control the floor is not that of a freshman. I just hope we can keep him here. The elites will be calling and offering big time money for that kid. We've got to keep him!

It was off the Duke player. It was proven on the replay. The ball didn't move or change direction or rotation when it went past Bub's hand. But it didn't matter. We beat them in spite of the bad call. That's how you win games that you're supposed to lose and make experts look like fools.

Yes, Pitt will need a string of 4 or 5 wins in a row, not including the win tonight, against some pretty good teams to even think about being considered for any kind of tournament.

So, are you going to give Capel credit for the win?

So, are you going to give Capel credit for the win?
Sure. Still needs to go, we’re spinning our wheels with him here and I find it all very odd how far people will go to defend and want to give him credit and how attached they are to a coach that they will shit on players in the meantime. I mean if it’s one of the turds he recruited, Dior, Hugley, XJ, Femi I get it. No one is defending the bad kids. But you’re gonna shit on Blake Hinson to try and keep some narrative that Capel is just a victim of bad luck? No, bad form Peter, bad form

FWIW, I thought Capel and staff actually were engaged and coaching and encouraging the team the entire evening. They were more active and involved than I can remember. It is important to remember though, we can beat anybody when Blake goes bonkers like that from 3. I still think Capel did a nice job lastbottom.
I think they are working hard on Fede. They know we need that Fede from our winning stretch last season. He was better last night, in spite of that last dumb foul. If we get that Fede back, we likely recover and make the NIT. If not, we finish near the botyom.

So, are you going to give Capel credit for the win?

He coached a great game and let Lowe run the offense. It's one data point. If this trend continues and Pitt reels off 5 or 6 wins in a row now, then Capel might be catching on and he might be a decent coach eventually. It has to continue, and that is the hardest part. Beating Duke at Cameron is easy compared to winning consistently all year.

Take it one game at a time. GT is next. Let's see if this was a fluke or if it was real. I tend to not get too high with Pitt wins and not too low when they lose. It's better for my outlook on everything.
