With his move to SF, if Jamel Artis does not learn to put the ball on the floor and score, as opposed to the catch and shoot he did most of his scoring from last year, he is probably not gonna lead this team in scoring or anything else.

They neglected to mention the transfer in of Sterling Smith, who is probably our biggest off season acquisition.

They have us picked 10th in the 15 team ACC. No respect (!) and that is gonna continue until and unless Dixon turns things around.

The whole review seems fair enough to me.

That seems like the right ranking in the conference. As much as that hurts seeing who is ranked ahead of us the reality is that all those teams are better than us. I believe they truly are.

We could have a big year with true centers and better defense and our sophomores improving in all area but look at those schools ahead of us.......ask yourself about whether you would want their roster or our roster.

I am not saying it wasn't... albeit with the less than 'in depth' approach.

At the start of Dixon's third season I really thought he was on the way out. After running the team Howland left him his first year, the team took a step down his second year and it looked to me that his hire was a bad choice.

But, his third year he really turned things around. Really got the team rolling and it was back to Pitt basketball, albeit Jamie ball rather than Ben ball.

So, with the ACC transition period OVER, IMO it is time for Dixon to get things rolling again. IMO he made the right moves over the summer bringing in Smith, Maia and ANO. With those acquisitions, there is no doubt Dixon is TRYING to turn things around. So, now we get to see how well a job he does putting this year's players together as a team.

There are some that are willing to accept mediocrity, but if those at the top, high profile doners and the like, were so willing, Dave Wannstedt would still be coaching the football team.

If I were Dixon, I would prefer to be rated low... but then go out and show them they were wrong.

We will see.

I didn't mean to imply you thought otherwise. Sorry if I gave that impression.

I think this is the year that the ACC becomes more like the old Big East and sends 9-11 teams to the NCAA Tournament. A lot of that will be decided in Nov/Dec. For example, if Pitt beats Gonzaga, Davidson, and Purdue and those are all tournament teams, we could probably go 8-10 in the ACC and be right there sniffing a bid assuming 2 of those ACC wins are of the Top 50 variety.

I cant argue with Pitt being picked 10th but I think there's very little difference between #6 and #11. Those are all 10-8 to 8-10 type of teams.......and I think they all could get in if they do well in Nov/Dec. Its almost like the Big 12 last year. Everybody lost to Kansas but the rest of the league all beat each other (to chalk up "good wins") and all made the NCAAT.

I think the ACC will be improved this year but not THAT much. Maybe 8 teams in the NCAAT.

If we beat Gonzaga, Davidson and Purdue, we should be top 5 in the ACC. Those are good teams (well, Gonzaga and Purdue).

If we score like we did last year and start playing D like we used to.... we should have a very good team this year. Again, top 5 in the ACC.

Dixon was playing with a deck that was not full last year... but this year he has a full deck.

It all depends on how well he puts them together as a team.

This team appears to be better on paper than last years team which managed victories over UNC, ND, and Syracuse twice. If Young and Artis improve which I'd expect to be the case and the grad additions work out Pitt will be a tournament team that can beat anyone except the best of the best.

The middle of the ACC is deeper than ever and if all those teams have good Nov/Dec's and are all ranked at or near the Top 50, they all count as "good wins" for the committee......like the Big 12 last year and that's the recipe for getting a ton of teams in. And that's a reason why the Big East got all those teams in. The middle teams all got "good wins" against each other.
