Eli Holstein at LSU game tonight

How many quarterbacks typically "transfer up" in pursuit of a bigger bag/program? Seems way more rare than other positions, and I'm sure they realize the importance of fit, etc.

Even when it does happen, it seems like it's after they've been at their previous stop for multiple years.

Don’t act like your post was not pushing a board narrative about Kelly that is old and tired, and which has been proven false over and over again over the past 15 years.
Don’t act like you know what I meant. I can play that game too. Shall I start interpreting what you really mean in every one of your posts???

I try to be straightforward and not to leave any doubt about what I'm trying to communicate, I also don't post a lot of unfounded speculation.

For instance, the fact that Holstein didn't consider a transfer to LSU is much more likely to be because he didn't have an offer or interest from them when he entered the portal than because he didn't want to play for Kelly. That is a fact, LSU did not pursue him or reach out, not that there was any room for them to as Holstein almost immediately announced his commitment to Pitt. The fact that he committed to Pitt after like 2 days in the portal is pretty conclusive evidence that Pitt was a done deal before he ever even entered the portal. And then there's the what Holstein himself said to the media, which was that the reason he entered the portal to begin with was to go to a program where he had better opportunity to get on the field and make an impact right away. That would not have been LSU.

So, to summarize, methinks your theory that he didn't consider transferring to LSU had nothing to do with how he feels about Kelly.

Yeah, it’s usually the guys that have established themselves as really good college players that are transferring up.

Which makes sense. That’s the only reason an elevated team would want them.

Ward
Howard
Leonard
Finn, but he didn’t win the job at Baylor.

Hartman and Leary are two that stick out the year before that. Maybe you can count Sanders as well, but his dad is obviously a big factor in that.

I think there are a multitude of reasons why QB is different. Two of which being:

1) There can only be one. So these guys, as their eligibility wanes, value being "the guy," rather than rolling the dice on competing with some 5-star, etc. or entering a situation where the fit just isn't right. Particularly if they have any NFL aspirations. Quite a few have ended up getting benched at their new destination, as will probably happen with DJU this season.

2) A lot of them come from well-off families and don't need to chase bags. Many have been in the national camp circuit since they were young, and that stuff isn't cheap.

In the case of the guys above:

Ward - Seemed headed to the NFL before Miami gave him a bag he couldn't refuse. But if returning to college was what he wanted to do, I can definitely understand not wanting to demote himself to the G5 for his final season after Washington State got left out of the conference shuffling.

Howard - I'm sure K State would have accepted him back and loved having two quality QBs, but he go pushed out - or at least saw the writing on the wall - as much as anything. And this speaks volumes to how QB transferring is a different animal, because we're talking about Ohio State rolling with a guy who basically lost his job to a guy at Kansas State.

Leonard - Coaching change. And in the case of ND's last ACC guy, Hartman, I think he had just done it for so long at Wake that he wanted to experience one year on a bigger stage. Probably the same can be said for Finn.

If Holstein wants go play at lsu so badly why didn’t he commit there in the first place? He had an offer
SMF doesn’t realize a lot of things. It’s been well known to anyone paying attention that Holstein has deep ties to Louisiana. Best to ignore SMF and treat him like the kid in the corner licking the walls and sticking crayons in his various body cavities.

That's the only thing you've pontificated about that I can accept. That is your opinion, so be it. No problem. I have as much inside info as you do. Not everyone can play for certain coaches. Kelly is hard on QB's. Just Google and you'll find out. That is the basis of my opinion.

But the issue is you telling me that "yeah, I know what you wrote, but that's not what you meant." It comes off pompous, arrogant & punkish. Now I can easily do the same to you... For instance, I could say...

"C'mon, c'mon. Just admit that you misread my post and in your vest to take up for Kelly you thought I said players instead of he (as in Holstein). But instead of apologizing for the misread, you covered up by saying "but that's what you meant to say". But I don't believe that's the case.

Nobody likes to have words put in their mouths.
