At least three altercations yesterday at the end of rivalry games due to the winning away team want to plant their flag on the home teams logo. Surprised on these artificial surfaces it’s even possiblle

Mich at osu
Nc st at unc
Fla at fsu.

I think it’s about respect of the rivalry and your competition (unlike WVU fans always screaming eat s pitt) but I also think the players have been told they have to protect their house at all cost that the thug mentality plays a part. First time I really remember this a think was when baker mayfield did it at Ohio st.

Overall our society has become a bunch of anonymous keyboard warriors who don’t care about others and the amount of empathy and respect we used to show our fellow neighbors doesn’t exist like it used to.

I'm pretty sure Michigan did it at OSU two years ago, too, and Harbaugh was asked about it and basically said he thought it was great because OSU sings the song "we don't give a damn about the whole state of Michigan."

I can see both sides, but I don't really have an issue with this flag planting. It's stupid. It's as a stupid as running around holding above your heads a jug or axe or boot or whatever other stupid rivalry game trophy exists. OSU vs Michigan doesn't have a trophy but they can make that the trophy, allowing the winner to plant their flag on the field.

I didn't think it was possible to try and link "anonymous keyboard warriors" with "football players, in-person, with their names literally written on their back". You really shoehorned in that last line because that's the point you really wanted to express and has nothing to do with anything above it.

In the 1950s-60s millions of people had to become activists and get numerous laws passed so that people of color could walk through white doorways.

The the 1960s-70s millions of people had to become activists so that women could get protections from their abusive husbands or open a bank account.

Those are just two of many major national movements that were necessary to force empathy and respect on society. Remind me again when this golden period of universal compassion took place?

Its fine. Win your home game if you dont want a flag planted on your field.
That figures.... Thug: You don't wanna get shot? Then just hand over the money!" Brilliant.

You don't disrespect your opponents & their fans, especially on their home field. It's called sportsmanship and respect.

The lessons you learn in sports carries on outside the playing fields. One of the reasons you see so much disrespect in the real world.

Sportsmanship and respect is a two way street. A week or two ago the Ohio State band formed a bear pooping on the Michigan block M, Ohio State fans threw batteries at the Michigan band and some even spat on Michigan players as they came out of the tunnel.

The durr “You learn lessons in sports for the real world” is kind of nonsense, all I learned was that authority figures(coaches) are mostly morons who are either living vicariously through you or just want to boss people around.

And then of course the next step in that, if you don't want someone from the other team kicking your ass at mid-field, don't try to put your flag there.

I mean really, why did the cops even bother to try to break that up, right? It's just people doing what people do. Plant flags, start brawls, more power to them!

I disagree.

I am all for sportsmanship and respect, but I don't see what is so disrespectful about "flag planting." It's an artificial turf field that probably gets replaced every three years. There is probably MRSA growing on it. It's not some religious site. The midfield logo isn't behind glass like in a museum. They haven't damaged the field or defaced any property. It doesn't strike me as any different than if there was a stupid Lake Erie trophy or something like that between OSU and Michigan and Michigan would be on the field raising it up in front of the OSU fans and any OSU players that have decided to not yet leave the field -- is that disrespectful to the OSU fans and/or players? Or do you expect them to just take the trophy back to the locker room and only celebrate with it there?
