Friermuth is ass

he's an average te, cant really block but decent route runner with average hands. def belongs on an nfl roster, but we over drafted him and really shouldnt have extended him.

he's a dime a dozen tight end - six for a nickel.
Agree and Agree and Agree!!

I can't bury him too much as a decent receiver on a table that lacks them. He's not explosive but he's generally solid and I'd really like him if he was a better blocker. The fan base overrates him. But I dunno if he's really one of their issues, you know? The guy would probably thrive with a top QB throwing to him.

To me, Darnell Washington and Calvin Austin were both wildly overdrafted. And yes, I know each has scored 1 of their few TDs this year. But they spent a 3rd round pick on a blocking tight end with a bum knee. And Austin is just too tiny to really ever be a consistent weapon as a receiver. He'll do what he did this week and then be invisible for the next 5 games.

I was at the game and glad they took the cuffs off Fields as the game went on. I don't like him at all as a player...but he's a vet with 40-odd starts in the NFL. Calling plays like he was a 6th round rookie was insanity. He turns the ball over no doubt, but you also have to let your QB throw it around. Tomlin has gotten exceedingly risk-adverse as he's gotten older, and I just don't know if they're ever really going to have a lot of offensive success under his watch again. Killer Bs seems like 20 years ago.

Or it’s simply QBs who lack the ability to throw down field consistently with accuracy ?

Coaches play to the strengths and weaknesses of their personnel and the opponent .

Its not a coincidence we threw to win when facing 9 in the box -
Then they backed out and we ran down their throats .

no one said to bury him but just that he's about as vanilla a TE as you will see. just another example in a long list of bad draft picks by our beloved steelers..

no clue why we double downed on this and extended him. you could have gotten the same value and production for a much lesser price..

several media outlets ranked him the 15th best TE in the league coming into this season. Yet the stinking media in this town somehow convinced themselves that he was actually a viable #2 wide reciever after the ayuk debacle occurred

well in all fairness, being the steelers second Receiving option isnt saying much since we really dont have a WR besides pickens..

i called Van Jefferson just this year's version of Allen Robinson and man, that seems to be actually highballing Jefferson as he cant even be that. loved seeing CA3 break one but he's not a WR2.. Roman Wilson cant get healthy soon enough.

Too many slot receivers
It’s what Roman is too

At least Van Jefferson doesn’t have a terrible contact like Robinson -
He’s actually cheap

i love this board. if we are happy about the steelers being 3-0 and saying Fields is playing well, we are wrong and all of us are saying that "Fields is God," but if we say anything negative, we are haters..

no middle ground with anything. Just over exaggerated rebuttals. you cant win with you guys, no matter what you say, you are wrong..

Oh, I hear what you're saying. The trouble is that he's a finesse receiving TE in a traditional TE's body and athleticism. I probably wouldn't have extended him unless I was pretty damn sure he was committed to blocking well like a traditional TE. Miller wasn't a great blocker coming out of college either, but he got after it and became one.

I also don't understand not picking up Harris's cheap option year. Note that I'm not saying that NH is an elite talent. But he's pretty much perfect for the rock fight offense they want to run. Warren will never hold up. And that just means another offensive need for 2025. I know people say you can get running backs anywhere, but that's how they ended up with Issac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer, an stunningly untalented duo.

they should have picked up his 5th year, ran the heck out of him and discarded him after. you'd have gotten 5 years from him. I like Warren ALOT but he's one of those backs that "Maxes" out at about 10 touches a game. great with 10 touches but drops off a cliff if you give him more..

When you've only scored three TD's in three games, there's a lot to worry about.
It ain't good, and it's just painful to watch at times. I was at the game yesterday, and the main benefit to rock fight offense is that it gets the game over quickly. Pitt is so much more fun to watch this season.

100%

Jaylen Warren is like the great Amos Zereoue experiment of the early 2000s. The more you see of him, the less you want to see of him. Great in small doses though.

If you win the game, you are not allowed to criticize anything. Because if you won, the team obviously must have played great and done everything right.
It's getting too confusing to be a Steeler fan. Last year we were told that winning ugly wouldn't work. This year it's being celebrated. I'm finding it difficult to keep up and left wondering how much it will matter when the Steelers get chased out of the playoffs again.

The reason why we are 3-0 is because the defense has allowed less points per game than the elite Ravens or Steelers defenses of this century. And it’s by a significant margin. If not for that, we are 1-2 or 0-3.

And yes, staying on the thread theme here, Muth is bang average. Always has been and it’s ok to say it. Doesn’t make him a jackass, and it doesn’t mean he sucks. He simply is what he is and he consistently lets his QBs down. He might be on the low end of average and I think that only makes him modestly overpaid? In an offense like we’ve had the last few years, those missed opportunities due to him are massive. My favorite play from Muth was in Kenny’s flawless debut when he took the pass from Kenny and handed it to the Jets defensive player for an int. And then there’s the countless drive killing drops that hurt the offense regardless of who the QB is.

Was wandering why this hit was not called targeting ? They did throw a flag though .
I think the NFL rules area a little looser. And I believe that targeting in the NFL isn’t an auto ejection like it is in college.

Honestly, he can't block so maybe they should move him to the slot. He'd be relatively cheap as a WR with that many years.

LOL, you wouldn't make this post if he was from Miami or Utah State :)
What are you talking about? What makes him more than just another guy? Who was Heaths back up? Was he any different that Muth? You know me, I think the tribalism of college fanbases is weird. Muth is bang average at best. Can’t say the same about Frazier. I think he will get lay in pro bowls.

Where he played is not relevant .
Muth is a below average starting TE .
Heath was beloved because of his total package production.
As we saw in the Tire Bowl while he was at UVA .

The fact that psu fans called him little gronk only tells you how delusional they are .

There’s a very good reason the stillers run to Washington’s side and not the $12mil/year man’s side .

Freiermuth is a disappointment and way overrated. I would have let him walk after this year. You know who else is a disappointment and way overrated as a TE. I'll give yinz a clue.....his name rhymes with Garth.

You're not wrong.

And we're not worthy!

[Insert Wayne and Garth image here]

But I was criticized for mentioning that the other day since we scored more points than the FCS team.

I'm not saying he's great or even good, I'm just saying the only reason there's this thread about him is to attack the Penn State guy, if he was from another school this thread wouldn't exist here.

I'm not defending Muth, just saying the only reason the OP started the thread was to hate on the Penn State guy.
