The return of WVU & PSU in the Top 25 Rankings is here again, and Pitt is just right behind them and with them in my opinion.
WVU's Holgrosen was brought in as Coach under the Big East and had to transition to the Big-12. He struggled taking on UT, OU, OKSU, BU, TCU, KSU, and TTU Programs, Top Coaches, and competing with those 1,000 Miles away while competing with the ACC and BIG-10 Programs surrounding them. WVU now gets it full share of BIG-12 Revenues without paying back any Loans. Coach Dana has had a 6 Year jump on establishing his program and it took him this long to win in the Top 25, and still has OU & Baylor left on his Schedule. If Pitt played WVU today it would be a Toss Up Game, in my opinion. Pitt barely lost to OKSU that beat WVU easily. Facts are WVU will still have a tougher time winning in the Big-12 in years to come than Pitt in the ACC Coastal and Holgrosen having a good year in 2016 will have bigger challenges in the future, and needs to beat OU to beat a Top Ranked Team in 2016! Baylor may no longer be in the top 25, but KSU could make it, we shall see it. Still, Pitt has had the tougher Schedule!
Pitt is not that far behind at all and just in Coach Pat Narduzzi's Second Year as a Head Coach? So far, right now only Pitt has beaten 2 Top Ten Teams in Penn State & Clemson and barely lost to another Three Top 25 Ranked Teams in OKSU, and maybe UNC and VT if they, and Miami may make it back too! Duke and Cuse are by no means easy wins for Pitt either. They have Good QB's that can have a field record day like all Teams QBs have had against Pitt and without Whitehead? Pitt can still go 6-6 if it does not refocus right now on Cutcliffe's Duke and Baber's Cuse! Yet, 8-4 and 9-4 also looks good too! Pitt's Narduzzi did something that Franklin and Holgrosen has yet to do. They stayed with and beat a Top 5 Teams all Game Long and not a Freshmen Laden Team like OSU that has 76 of Freshmen and Sophomores, but a Veteran Talent Laden Clemson that was #2 last year and most of this year too that beat Top Programs and Signature Coaches in FSU, ULou, UNC, Miami, and many more last year and this year!
Penn State is in Franklin's Third Year and he is beating the Teams he is suppose to beat but not by much. Moorhead's "Pitt Think Tank Offense" with McSorley & Barkley is right where it should be by the 6th game and have beaten Signature Coaches of OSU's Urban Meyer's with great Half-Time Adjustments, against a questionable OSU's QB known to panic, and just by a late Blocked Kicks? They also got blown away by Michigan too. Penn State did beat Team they were suppose to beat in Kent State, Temple, Minnesota, Maryland, Purdue, and Indiana. Pitt could have beaten all those Teams easily too. However, beating Iowa's Ferentz was impressive and a Signature Win in my opinion. Rutgers and MSU for this year should be beaten easily too! Still, credit Franklin with 10 Wins is well deserved but Spread Offense so far has not won one NCS Title since the Playoffs were established and that will limit Franklin in future years as well, in my opinion. However, 2017 and 2018 is the true test of a very difficult schedule for Penn State unlike this year? Expectations will be sky high too and disappointment can happen just like what happen to Holgrosen in his first 4 years after winning 10 games?
Franklin mature team, next year will take on a Meyer's Veteran OSU Team at OSU, Ferentz's Team at Iowa, Fitzgerald's Team at NW, Dantonio's Rebuilt Team at MSU, along with Narduzzi's Pitt with Canada's New QB, Rileys Nebraska, Harbaugh's Young Michigan, and Indiana, Georgia State, Maryland, and Rutgers, that should be better but that is very tough 2017 Schedule to match 10 Games again? Yet, Penn State will have the most Veteran Laden Talented Players and even better in 2018! So we shall see?
I still think Pitt's Narduzzi even while Rebuilding Pitt's Program in just his second Year, and Pitt in its 4th year in the ACC has shown more consistent winning against tougher Opponents with far less blow outs, and is a better Coach than WVU's Holgrosen and PSU's Franklin!
Still, if Pitt, Wvu, or Penn State played each others this and every year, all three Games would be Toss Ups and I think many would agree about it that being the case!
We shall see?
