Was in DC over the weekend, and was having a drink in the crowded Old Ebbetts Grill, an institution across from the White House. First time I was there. Met a guy from Louisiana, who lives in Houston now. He is in his young/mid 30s. He works in the oil/gas industry, so he travels and has lived around, including a year and half just outside of State College. He grew up in Cajun country, but has lost most of his accent, and was pretty sophisticated given his background. His girlfriend, who is from Vegas, was there and was really hot.

I mentioned having gone to an LSU game in 2014 and how much fun I had. He said what I’ve heard many times, that it’s the best college game day atmosphere in the country, and he said he’s been to 35 different campuses for games.

He mentioned going to PSU games, and said that while PSU fans think the atmosphere is great, he said that it was, well, he didn’t want to be rude...so my wife jumped in and said “boring?” He yelled “Thank you!” Then he went into a hilarious, fast talking rant about how effing boring the fans are. He talked about tailgating at LSU, where they start roasting a pig at 6am, and drink the entire day. We he was 14, his Dad handed him a beer early in the morning for the first time and said, don’t tell your mother.

At State College, he ordered a 100 lbs. of crawfish and alligator, and made huge pots of gumbo, which he said is routine back home, but the Nitters with their 4 hot dogs on the grill thought he was insane. Then he imitated the way they talked, which was a total white bread imitation. Imagine a black guy imitating how uncool some white people talk. And he said all anyone wanted to talk about was JoePa, on and on, which he thought was nauseating. Then at the game, he said they clapped like they were at the opera. He went on for 5 minutes with this and was so damn funny, I had tears rolling down my face.

It was great to get that perspective from someone from Louisiana. Few places are as fun as Baton Rouge for a game, but he said, of the 35 game days he’s been to, State College was the most boring.

Wonder what he would have said when LSU played at WVU that one year?

LSU Football is not just a way of life it is life for many great fans. Saw a special in 1980s on LSU on PBS, one guy painted his House with their colors and put a Mascot Face on his Garage Door.

Ole Miss and most SEC Games are like Gala's Events to attend before a game and kudos to them.

I enjoy Penn State, WVU, USC, and Notre Dame games as well, and they all have their pluses as far as I am concern. Yet, still prefer Pitt Football under a Good Coach like Pat Narduzzi & Staff just like under Majors & Sherrill in 1980s.

Did that guy mention how much LSU Fans are indebted to Pitt for beating WVU and allowing LSU to earn the first NCS with 2 losses in 2007?

Every time I meet one, they remind me of it and thank me, and I say they are welcomed Pitt Fans enjoyed it, but I did not play in the game?

I've attended and worked at a ton of PSU games. Not sure I agree 100% but the opera clap made me laugh because I remembered thinking that.

I completely agree. The PSU crowd seems like its 90,000 extras for a football movie set. They all wear white and when the producer says action the cameras come on and the Nittany Lions run on the field everybody stands and shakes there pom poms. Then for 3 hours they sit there like dopes (of course watching boring football doesnt help). Ask any honest PSU fan (I have a bunch of them in my family).
