Selfishly hoping for a later start only because it's going to really negatively impact any pre-game festivities since we're staying in downtown Raleigh.

Also noticed Duke/UNC is slotted for a noon start next weekend. Again, another head scratcher for me since they will be playing for the Division lead. I guess because FSU-Clemson is the same day but why that can't be an evening start and Duke-UNC a 3:30 start is puzzling to me.

My guess is if both teams win this weekend and get ranked a later start time. If not my guess is noon

It might be. But a couple times per season the networks are allowed to announce game times six days beforehand rather than the standard 12. They took advantage of that this weekend. It is possible they will do so again next weekend.

Which games go into which time slots is determined by television. ABC picked the Minnesota - Ohio State massacre for a night game, so that left Florida State - Clemson for the 3:30 game (it looks like that may be a national telecast as well, which is unusual for a 3:30 game). ESPN picked the Duke - Carolina game for their noon ESPN2 game. Playing for the ACC Coastal division lead isn't really much of a television pull.

This is where the TV schedule got skewed. Yet ANOTHER primetime tOSU game. And doesn't ESPN have 2 primetime games (one at 7-ish)? Why not FSU-Clemson then or Duke-UNC?

Driving down and back home the same day for this game, so hoping for a 330 start time.

Because it's all about ratings & in primetime ABC/ESPN will be going up against LSU-Bama. Clemson-FSU will get better ratings at 3:30 when they dont have to split the southern TVs with the Bama-LSU game. Putting any matchup featuring southern teams against that SEC West game would be ratings suicide. Ohio St has a huge national fanbase that will tune in to see them play the sisters of the poor so ABC knows they'll at least have a decent share putting them in primetime opposite the SEC game.

The 7pm ESPN game is Nebraska-Michigan St.

Hoping for a 3:30 kick. Going down Friday, after the women's BB game. I'll be able to sleep in, go to Alumni tailgate, go to the game, and hopefully be able to get tickets for Duke BB game at Cameron. Really looking forward to seeing a lot of Pitt fans there. Maybe we all can outnumber the Dukies.

You mean the defending champions with an enormous fanbase gets a prime tv slot?
How strange! ;-)
If I had to hazard a guess the fanbase for ND is larger than tOSU, so although they were just on this past Saturday, why not ND/Pitt this weekend instead in that slot? Obviously there is precedent for multiple appearances by the Buckeyes. Just playing devil's advocate.

You'd think that Notre Dame would get much higher ratings than Ohio State. But they actually don't, at least not the past couple of weeks. The Notre Dame game last night had 5.39 million viewers and had a 1.5/5 rating/share in the 18-49 demo (the one that advertisers care about). The Ohio State game two weeks ago had 5.40 million viewers and a 1.6/6 in the demo.

Now there are other things in play here. There was a World Series game last night. But two weeks ago there was a college football game on Fox competing with the Ohio State game. Last night's game was close all the way through, which generally helps ratings, and the Ohio State game was a blow out, which generally hurts ratings. And so on. But the takeaway is that Notre Dame is not the ratings juggernaut today that they were 30 years ago.

Makes it fun trying to plan a weekend trip, doesn't it? Grrr...
Also with Pitt trying to find ways to increase attendance at Heinz, I gotta think at least a little bit that not knowing game times until very close to the date of the game has to hurt attendance. People just can't buy tickets anymore and make sure they have nothing to do for an entire day because they're not sure what time the game will be. Nothing Pitt can really do about that, but I think that's something that's not mentioned much and is really hurting attendance at Pitt and a lot of other places.

With all the money involved in TV, and other advertising, are we getting to the point where in game attendance isn't going to matter nearly as much anymore?
