Assuming Drumgoole doesn’t get better and moves on to a school that he can play at... instead of going after a freshmen who most likely won’t be able to impact next year... what about plucking Justin’s brother with the one time transfer waiver?

I'd rather have a good big man.

I've watched him a few times. Personally I think we
have players who can play where he does. Now if
he were a true Big (he's listed as a guard/forward)
I'd be ok with it. Same as if he were a pg. I feel we
need both if we're going to move up in this league.

I'm over here just hoping the opposite doesn't happen.

I actually was thinking about that today. Wonder if he’d want to come here.

I like your idea - you bring in another good player and keep Champ happy. That is IF they want to play together.

Now you want another wing? 😁

I thought they'd both be playing together this year either here or at SJU. Obviously, if you can get him, you do.

I'm almost going on the assumption that they will be working with 3 ships when it's all said and done, as it appears Nike will be eligible. I'm guessing there will be someone transferring out, at this point, Drumgoole is the most likely candidate. Ideally they get Reid, a PG, and a shooter

I mean, what PG, center or shooter do you see that’s gonna be available that helps them next year? I think Reid is clearly headed for the G league.

The whole idea is making the tournament. Keep Champagnie happy, add his carbon copy, move Jeffress permanently to the 2, and you have a lot of depth and versatility.

If you don’t make the tourney in year 4 with XJ and Toney, you’re at a total reset in year 5. They need to add instant impact guys and make a tournament or Capel may not make it.

this sounds like a great idea... but what leads you to think that he would move on?

BballinsiderfromPitt, you are right, its about making the NCAA. In an ideal scenario, Capel would get a PG, C, and shooter based on what the team appears to need, all I'm saying. In reality, like you said, we need players who will make an impact, and bringing in the "carbon copy" is at the very least, an interesting idea.

Yeah I’m not saying don’t bring in those players, also. Get the best available you absolutely can to make the team better is most important though. Taking a center just to have a center or a PG just to have a PG doesn’t mean anything if they are outmatched. And a PG while a need isn’t gonna play much next year.

not playing at all and being passed by multiple dudes? I have no idea if he will
Oh that makes sense. I had no idea what his situation was there and I thought he was playing a ton. Guess not.

you guys aren’t on the same page. Jpklein was asking why Champagnie would leave St. johns and bballinsider was talking about Drumgoole

You hate to see coaches get desperate, and it was one of Dixon's flaws at the end with all the grad transfers. But you are absolutely right that Capel needs to go all-in on 21-22 and make the tournament. There's no way Pitt can afford to be 12th-15th place in the conference for his first 4 seasons and have any prospect of a long-term plan.

Perhaps even more so for him personally, he has no chance of ever getting that Duke job if he fails for 4 years at Pitt.

The Duke job???? He is so far from the Duke job I doubt he's even thinking about it at this point. I mean he's on ice that is becoming thinner here at Pitt. If he finishes towards the bottom this year, which appears likely, he goes into Year 4 having to make the NCAAT in order to avoid coaching for his job in Year 5. If any coach cant make the NCAAT in 5 years, no matter where you start from, its probably a sign its not going to work out.....unless you pull a Chambers and buy a recruiting class. That could give him an extra year or 2.

I hate to agree with you but... you’re actually spot on.

And given the misses in big and PG recruiting, year 5 is likely a down year without XJ and Toney. So you better make it year 4.

Yea, he HAS to make the NCAAT next year. X and Toney gone and a guy like Champagnie could "transfer up." Year 5 might actually be really bad because he whiffed on the 2019 class (outside of Champagnie). Outside of Champagine, the only ACC-level FR/SOs we have are Jeffress and Hugley and we signed exactly nobody in the Nov period which basically means this next class is going to suck.

This one’s gonna age poorly in a few different ways.

Through 5 games...

We are, by far, on both offense and defense, the weakest at the 2 as of the moment. And its not even remotely close.

There is a lot of "want" by people to put Jeffress there full time. But when you get burned on back to back 3's on a failed switch and a failed closeout like Jeffress did last game by a player that lit up Western Kentucky from 3, he's just not ready yet for that type of role. And that is ok for a 17 year old with a preseason injury to not be ready for that role and to have freshmen ups and downs. Jeffress time will come.

I knew Ithiel Horton was going to be shaky on defense. And I sound like a broken record here. But we desperately need him or Nike to get it going from the 2 on offense. I do think Drumgoole is also on some thin ice.

We are lucky to even have Femi playing after his arm injury. Noah is what he is, raw on offense with "potential" which is what I expected, for him to be used for defense early on. Max is a development player which is fine. Brown is the same player as he's been his whole career, which is why he is 3rd on the depth chart at center which is what I said he would be since about last March.

I thought Big John would provide more on offense, especially with his passing, but we have not seen it yet. And Sibande should have been cleared already who I firmly believe is going to help. When you really look at things, the only major disappointment that I have is Ithiel Horton. But it's way to early to suggest that he wont pick it up on offense. With the preseason injuries to both Femi and Will along with Will's age, you cant expect more from those 2. You just cant.

HEY!! For once we agree. LOL (well we have a few times anyway).
Question....why are you saying Chambers bought a recruiting
class? Any substance to that?

BTW, I can't stomach Chambers...not a good coach and from
my perspective, a total ass. He had a very good team last year
and it tanked in the second half of BIG 10 play.

Because anytime someone recruits well they paid.

But when other fan bases think the same about Pitt (Toney/McGowens) its because we have the greatest recruiters and so much to offer.

The Pantherlair way

Anytime?...Sorry, not true. Many cases of players being recruited
and weren't paid. You know better.

I have a cousin who lived in Philly and was somewhat connected to the basketball scene there. Said it was somewhat common knowledge that shenanigans went into them getting Carr and the other guy from Roman.
