BC and WF were the only teams rated below us in the preseason rankings. BC is beating the #3 team in the country and looks a lot better. Forbes is a good coach and WF is going to leap frog us as well. We are eyeing a potential 0-fer again in conference play.

I am sure Delaware State is terrible but I was shocked Wake beat them by 60. We arent going to go winless. But 3-4 wins in the ACC is possible. At this point, if you could guarantee me Sean Miller, even with a show cause that gives us an NCAAT ban for 1-2 years for hiring him, I'd take an 0-20 for that. Or substitute Miller with any sure-thing coach. However, I realize that if we go winless and fire Capel, we'll be lucky to get Point Park's coach.

Where are these wins coming from? UNC is a lot better, so cross them off the list. Trey won us a couple games on his own and he is gone.

I don't know. They may be underdogs in all 20 but they have to win a couple. I said the Stallings team COULD lose them all but I predicted 2-16. I don't think this team can lose all 20. We'll win 3-6.

I think the chances of us going 0-20 in Conference play are about .01%. And I'm not saying this because I'm trying to make any case about us being any better than we looked tonight.

I'm only case I'm making is how hard it would be to go 0-20 in the ACC.

Perhaps a more realistically troubling prediction is that we are eyeing a potential last place finish again in conference play.

Yeah we start playing tough conference games pretty soon because of how covid has impacted the basketball schedule. It seems that we are in for a pretty awful season. Especially watching this game and seeing no offensive sets run, poor fundamentals and turnovers and awful defense just like year 1 and year 2. Because there looks to be zero improvement from year 2 to year 3 makes me very worried.

Then what? Are we supposed to believe year 4 is Capel's year? How about if year 4 stinks too? We have no money for big buyouts but does Heather cut ties with him and we start again? I can't see her even doing that. With Narduzzi I think we have at most 2 more years of him and then he can be bought out. I am at a loss as to what Pitt does with Capel if this is the product this season and next.

I said preseason that if we won 6 ACC games it would be a sign of progress based on the rest of the ACC getting better. That is seeming more of a long shot.

Is there any sane reason.. whatsoever... every single discussion of coaching breaks down ultimately into ...whoever Pitt currently has vs Sean Miller?

are there no other options on the planet other than Sean Miller?

truly... no other options...? On planet earth?

Anyone else Pitt would get would be a complete lottery ticket. Miller has us in the NCAAT almost every year.

If we aren't clearly improved in Year 4 when all of these freshmen are Sophs, then it will be really hard to support JC. I still think we are really young this year, lack junior/senior leadership and have a poor floor general at PG. JC has his work cut out this year. I just want to see these Freshmen show progress by the end of the season.

Not having a floor general at PG 3 years in for a guy who was a former PG is a problem... and it’s his fault.

We’re not young by any stretch of the imagination. Other than Jeffress who showed flashes. We have 3 guys in their 3rd year of college. Femi is a 20 year old freshmen. Champagnie played a ton last year. The problem is these guys just aren’t that good.

We only have 3 upperclassmen - X, Toney and Brown (who's a non-entity). So, no senior leadership. Horton is still technically a Soph. Femi might be 20, but he's still a Frosh new to the program. We are going to be leaning on 4 Freshmen who wouldn't have seen much of the floor during the H/D era when we had real continuity in the program. The bulk of this roster - 9 players - consists of underclassmen. You might not be wrong in your assessment of the other guys, but this still a young team.

Horton is in his 3rd year of college and hyped as good of a scorer as anyone in the ACC all year last year. More excuses and bullshit from this administration

Hows Jamie Dixon doing at TCU.

When will Pitt make the NCAA again.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

Dixon’s merits at TCU can certainly be discussed as it’s a little complicated. He didn’t have anything close to the rebuild there as Capel had at Pitt. Johnson may not have won a lot of games, but when he was canned he certainly didn’t leave the cupboard bare as they definitely had some talent.

When Dixon came in he did a damned good job of showing those guys how to win and got them to the tournament, but when you look at it closely the results aren’t nearly as good as some people think and are on a definite downward trend

2016-17 - Won NIT
2017-18 - Made NCAA - Lost in 1st round
2018-19 - NIT appearance
2019-20 - 16-16 record - no postseason
2020-21 - Picked next to last in preseason poll, outlook not very good

He is paid really well there, if this season looks anything like last years he may well be feeling a little heat heading into 2021-22. They have been getting progressively worse for 2-3 seasons now.

Dixon hasn't done anything in 10 years. I mean, think about that. Is he better than Stallings and Capel? Yes. You don't waive a buyout to hire Stallings but Dixon has had problems for a decade now.

They were a 1 seed 9 years ago. He took TCU to their first tournament this millennium and only missed the tourney twice at Pitt.
