Horton

With the Virginia Tech game officially postponed, Horton will now have time to get some practice time in before the Louisville game.

This works out better. And if we can beat Louisville, we got BC after which we can start to turn the corner and the season by getting the next 2.

I appreciate the optimism but first things first. Horton has to be reinstated.

Have you watched Pitt play this year?
Yes, I have watched every minute. This team is an embarrassment and Ithiel Horton isn’t a good basketball player. He’s not a 4 win player by any means. He’ll come back and average 7.3 points a game on 34% shooting while we go on a 9 game losing streak

you clearly haven't watched a single second of them this year.
I’ve clearly watched them get absolutely torched by The Citadel and UMBC. Horton isn’t good, he wouldn’t have made a difference and he won’t make a difference now, are we saying Horton wins the UVA game, Minnesota game?? What are we saying?

Right. He would have no impact to the line up or how other teams line up against us? Considering those 1pt losses, he makes a difference just being on the floor. I’d bet my mortgage we beat ND, and probably comfortably.

No. Not those games. I’ll give you that.

I’d bet my mortgage if my aunt had a penis she’d be my uncle

Follow up question- can you calculate simple math problems? If so, you should be able to figure out why Horton making a couple shots could turn losses into wins.

Horton isn’t some big shot maker 😂😂 you guys acting like Ithiel Horton is the type of player who would DEFINITELY have added wins for us is insane honestly

Not too worried about that.
From some of the things I’ve heard, it could be a little more complicated than we might like. In other words, this goes way above Capel. But I’m honestly guessing on this about as much as anyone. I guess we will know soon enough. For Ithiel’s sake, I hope he can put this behind him very soon.

Big John’s reinstatement came rather quickly, but we weren’t playing in a bowl game the same day.

While I don’t appreciate the pessimism, I must also readily confess to understanding your facts and or the very real possibility that this post might end up being completely accurate.

Thank you DT, I understand I am being completely pessimistic but I honestly believe this to be true. I truly miss the old days

Trust me when I say this … You probably don’t miss them more than I do. I’d LOVE to be able to lose as a 10 seed to 7 seed Wisconsin in the NCAA tournament by the score of 47-43 once again!!

saying Horton isn't good is a baseless claim.

you said 7.3ppg and 34% shooting? even 34% 3pt shooting? He's never been below any of those marks.. ever.

We should’ve won that game, I miss James Robinson more than anything in this world
Damm Mike Young for banging into James on the last shot! Think about that moment. If Mike doesn’t bang into James, I think we hit that shot and win the game.

If that had been the case, no one would have been talking about a terrible game that sent the sport back, but instead how we ground our way to a win as a 10 seed over a 7 seed. And who knows what happens from there.

That moment set the direction for the next six years if not longer.

Horton adds shooting, but more importantly, much needed floor spacing.

Closing Lineup: Femi, Burton, Horton, Mo, John

1-4 can make a 3pt shot. Right now, Jeffress simply can't.

Hugley on the block 1v1 would happen more often. If not, you get a decent look at 3 from someone who can shoot.

Pitt has THREE 1pt losses and ONE 2pt loss.

If you can't see how adding spacing + a 40% 3pt shooter would help, you're being negative for no reason.

In acc play last year, Horton averaged 9.9 points per game and shot 39% from 3. Horton's offensive efficiency rating last year in ACC conference play was higher than both Xavier Johnson and Audiese Toney at 105 ORTG. Besides all that, Horton made 34 three balls last year in acc games only, more than 2 made per game.

Literally, all Horton has to do is stand there and shoot and make 3's this year just like last year, and our offense will be vastly improved. What Horton cant do, is constantly miss wide open 3's (Jeffress), or be totally afraid to shoot in most instances (Jeffress, Ezzy).

With Horton, on offense he is going to take enormous pressure off of the shoulders of Femi and Hugley because we are going to get a lot better offensive spacing with him standing there from the 3 point line unless teams want to be dumb enough to leave him wide open like they do Jeffress and Ezzy.

The offense will take a significant step forward the rest of the way this season.

agreed on all accounts. The spacing alone will do wonders.

not to mention, he was only a sophomore last year....

I mean, if someone is claiming to have watched the whole season, the amount of times that Hugley and Femi have been double teamed is more than any player I can possibly remember. Its been constant all season long because we have zero spacing with poor shooters on the floor. 1 lights out 3 point shooter changes the ball game for everyone else on the team.

I’d agree with you more if Ithiel had ever been a lights out shooter.

Dixon had been in talks with TCU since January. It was a done deal.

That must surely be the most boneheaded play any of us have seen from a Pitt player. There is no reason he should have been anywhere close to Robinson in that situation.

What is your definition of lights out?

For Horton's entire 2 year underclassmen college career, he is shooting 39.5% from 3. That is the same exact percentage as Ronald Ramon.

In Ashton Gibbs entire 4 year college career playing on stacked teams that took all the pressure off of him, Gibbs was a 41% 3 point shooter. And he fully collapsed shooting his senior year without Brad Wanamaker who shouldered the offensive load on those teams.

If you want to call Horton a very good shooter instead of lights out, that's fine. There were a total of 12 players in the entire ACC conference that were over 40% from 3 in conference play with 30 minimum makes last year. In other words, Horton is in small company shooting the 3 ball. And if we used just underclassmen, the list would be even smaller.

He is a great shooter.

I finally almost agree with you about one thing. Horton is a very good shooter. His form is flawless. His base must be his one weakness.

He shot 37% last year … decent for sure. It would help this team, but I don’t know if it’s the difference maker you are suggesting.

I just like the fact a certain whipping boy should see less time. Unless the guard rotation is quicker off the bench and everything else stays the same.

To be fair he was shoved into Robinson.
