Interesting out of state / district matchups.

IMG Academy @ Pine Richland
COF Academy(OH) @ North Allegheny
Erie McDowell @ Seneca Valley
Penn Hills @ Steubenville

Games Friday and Saturday at Wolverina
Cathedral Prep vs Central Catholic
Wilson (DC) vs Woodland Hills
Erie High vs Mckeesport
Peters Twp vs West Toronto Prep
Aliquippa vs. McKinley Tech (DC)

Any I am missing? Thoughts?

It's too bad Pine Richland didn't play IMG last year. It's not likely to go well this year.

I think Steubenville will beat Penn Hills, but that’s going to be a very good game. Can’t think of the last time they lost a season opener.

COF is a non public charter school. Their schedule is more difficult than Ohio State's.

This game is being played one year too late, but even if it was last year it still would not have been close. For all those who say that Catholic schools recruit and are ruining the game, take a look at IMG. There are at least actual schools at the Parochial schools, IMG is a sports training center that brings in tutors.

Yes, it is absolutely ridiculous and insane. But all they have done is become exactly what is now like 50 of these Basketball Academies and have done it with football (and other sports).

IMG is really bad for H.S. football. It's turning it into HS basketball, turning the best players into a bunch of nomadic mercenaries.
It's like the academy teams and travel teams in soccer that don't let kids play for their schools. IMG is not a high school team, its a sports club that has a school attached to it. I wonder who pays these kids tuition? I read it's like $70K a year in SI.

that would be extremely discouraging for several reasons.
I could see that though if regular schools ever started dropping football for insurance and liability reasons. Football would end up having to be played by private football academies. Possibly even the pro teams might have to ante up and have their own academies like soccer does.

I don't want to live in that world.

Football costs a lot too, lots of gear needed. When I was a kid, they gave us everything, helmets, shoulder pads, even shoes. Do the schools still provide gear or do they make the kids pay for everything? I doubt they give out shoes now, like the used black, Johnny U style high top football shoes I wore in high school! LOL.

I played mid 90's we were given everything but we fund raised like crazy too. My nephew played a few years ago they provided all stuff but shoes. They fund raised and it was pay to play, I think $150. This was at Upper St Clair also, so it wasn't some hard up district.

We didn't fund raise at all, But I'm talking about 1974-1977. And the shoes we got where owned by the school and probably someone else who graduated wore them the year before. Maybe the star RB or QB might of had some special shoes. Nowadays schools often have sports fees, my daughter is in a private HS and they charge $100 per each sport you play, we didn't have that. But when I was in school, they didn't give us lists of what school supplies to buy, they just GAVE US the school supplies, back when AMERICA WAS GREAT it was basically like socialism, LOL!

I played from 2005-2009. Everything was provided except shoes. Parents were "strongly encouraged" to contribute 100 to the booster club though.

Lets just have the booster club at NA or Pine Richland raise another 80,000 bucks to help with the cost of all of this crap.
