I'M SHOUTING BECAUSE

We had two coaches during that span, right?
Why did both look elsewhere?
More money at bigger programs.
Majors left to go home. Sherrill left because Bozik was a faming, meddling idiot like Pedersen. Neither guy left because of money and John Majors has said on any number occasions he wishes he hadn't left. Sorry but neither departure fits your " it's the fans fault" agenda.

Beside the blue bloods (Kentucky, Kansas) and even marginally appealing programs like (byu, nc state etc. here is a list of schools that have a higher ranked commit than we do for next season.....

Teams that have higher ranked commits than we do for next season. Umass (2), Nebraska (2), New Mexico, Harvard (2), San Diego state, Vanderbilt, providence, Xavier (2), butler (2), fla state(2),Yale, ok state, northwestern (2) Nevada (2), unlv, Utah state, seton hall, Arizona state (2), Mississippi state (4), usc, Georgia (2)south Florida, Stanford, South Carolina, penn state (2), Alabama, Oregon state, Cincinnati, Memphis, vcu, Minnesota, auburn (2), this doesn't count another 30 teams that you would expect. That's really awful

Some quick takeaways.

I bet you would find beside a couple schools we have better attendance, better financial commitment from our admin, and a higher paid coach. If you look at our recruiting classes the last 2-3 years it's easy to see why we are in the position we are in. And while I like kithcart we just have zero Momentum on the recruiting trail right now.

Here we go. I knew this was coming next. Dude your like a broken record. Your right! All Pitt's problems in football and basketball is their fans.........geezus man

I'll stop being a broken record on Pitt's financial issues when people stop being a broken record with "why can't we be like Louisville?", "why can't we sustain anything?", "why doesn't anybody want to come here?" and pretend like the answer isn't money.

Louisville not having to pay out any of their revenue for scholarships due to their endowment is a massive, massive, MASSIVE advantage over Pitt.

Dixon's $1.4MM base salary isn't attracting anybody to come here, either.

Oh well if that's the case, I expect we will start beating Bama for recruits any year now. My mistake, those 25 years of not being Alabama was just a blip. I thought they may be a little more to right the ship from.
Wouldn't surprise me at all if within 2-3 years that's the case. We beat big time programs for recruits this year. Jamie should go talk to Duz, might learn something. You just don't know your history. You're a child of the 90's and your inferiority complex is based on your experiences.

Not everything...
But a department war chest makes correcting a mistake easier.

I mean even Unc messed up a hoops hire with Dougherty... And bought him out to lure Roy back.
No doubt more money a program has makes fixing their mistakes a lot easier and faster. However, you need to win over and over again. If you want to get to that place.

Not the other way around.

Yeah, you're probably right.

That is 100% a pro sports mentality.

There's no draft in college sports to distribute talent.

Wins follow money in college sports. Plain and simple.

So please tell me all these programs that have stunk for 30 years. Who still have a ton of fans that go to games and pay big money to help their programs compete against the bigboys????????

No, we caught lightning in a bottle with a good coach's

Sustaining that is A function of support.. Like making A change is.

I think that is overly simplistic. Of course good coaches and players trump all. But we have managed to keep Jamie (for better or worse for some) so I am not sure where this money or lack of is directly responsible for the downfall of the program? I just am not putting it together. Unless you are talking about paying players or such, then I am inclined to agree. But that is against NCAA rules.

Are you new to watching college sports?..
Any sec program.
I not going to keep going back and forth.

However, the only SEC teams who have stunk for long periods of time when talking about football is Vanderbilt and Kentucky. Their attendance is not better than Pitt's.

There is a pretty good taco joint on the Southside near 11th street!

Seriously, I get bored with the one trick ponies, but it comes with the territory when you are mired in mediocrity. I say step away to those who tire of the noise.

Doce Taqueria. Just had lunch there a couple of weeks ago. It is good...but I like the old school, stand up joints like in front of Las Palmas in Bloomfield or Edgar's in the Strip. I like mine served authentically. Great meat of your choice, onions and cilantro, squeeze of lime. I don't want mine all gringo'd up with cheese and lettuce or slaw or sour cream, etc... Now I do think putting a salsa on them is acceptable.

Doce Taqueria was neat, enjoyed it. But like those stands around Pittsburgh better.

You know we were Alabama in FB from 75-81and we didn't fall back because of lack of fan support, we fell back because the admin. pulled the plug on the best coach in college FB. I believe you underestimate Pitt's ceiling,.

No. No matter what, in football specifically and especially, the lack of fan support, the infrastructure that so many teams enjoy by being the defacto Pro football franchise in their regions will always limit our ceiling. Always.

More money at bigger programs.

That's true....and that will always be a limiter on to what our programs can do. But let's face it, in this day and age, coaches are always mobile. Always. Whether it is Pitt, Notre Dame, Florida, USC or even GREENBOW ALABAMA!

Either way, I just like witty remarks that are clever.

Still doesn't mean Pitt can't be a top 20 team year in and out.

I actually agree, but I would argue that our margin of error is very small, compared to the "big boys", just like we are seeing in hoops now. A few mistakes sends you right back down.

It's not... But the coffers aren't full enough to make a change.

South Carolina is a good example.
Hell so was Alabama pre saban.
Ole miss, miss state, Tennessee has been in turmoil.

When you have money and boosters you have a chance to get it right.

It's why Michigan can dump Brady hoke and richrod and lure harbaugh.

Sherrill left to become the highest paid coach in college football. Fact.
Majors left to lead his home program which was a bigger name than Pitt, fact.
Nice try Souf, now you are evening twisting your own words. You made a blanket statement that they left for more money at a bigger program.

So change your wording now on Majors to add the real reason why he left.

And if you think Sherrill leaving was all about money, no reason to debate with you.

Well for staters you need a first class coach. Without that, you have no chance.

Pitt really has a much better chance to be a consistent top 25 Fb team than a Bb team due to the local talent base to recruit from. They can't even get 40,000 to Fb games unless it's a great opponent and then they have historically lost those games which kills the momentum of the program to attract fans . The bb team now can't fill the Pete. Who comes first the chicken ( fans ) or the egg ( $$$$ ). If they spend money they don't have will they make it up down the road or not ? Or do they keep taking ACC money and hope to have competitive teams every now and then. It's not up to anyone except the chancellor and his cronies . Their new to this ,but we'll know the answer in a few years. It will either get better or it won't . Maybe they'll surprise us ,let's hope.

Did he or did he not leave and become the highest paid coach in college football?

I don't have to twist my wOrds or meaning.. They are mine.

It"
It's a moneybalz issue. Wrong as usual ... About everything.

I think people who need to make a distinction between "true" fans and "fake" fans are morons. It's unsurprising that you do something like that.

And you missed the point. But again, that's not surprising because you're the type of dude who'd rather tear down Steven Adams, a Pitt alum, while celebrating TJ McConnell, not a Pitt alum, for their relative NBA and college success.

I'm a Pitt fan. I want Pitt to win. But I'm not about to throw a tantrum on the boards because they don't play well. Sports just aren't that important, dude.

What's up with you and Steven Adams? Are you related to him? The dude averaged 7 and 6. He was Gary McGhee. That's it. I liked McGhee. I liked Adams. I wished we had a guy like McGhee or Adams but on the college level, both were just "good" college centers, nothing special.

Adams is doing good in the NBA. Good for him. At Pitt, he wasnt anything special.

7 points
6 rebounds
