Info From Big Maryland Supporters On Franklin!

Regardless of how bad the SEC East was in Franklin's tenure, Florida, Tennessee & Georgia still had a lot more talent than Vandy. And many of the games Vandy lost against top teams, they were highly competitive. Franklin is the only coach that gave the Vandy program a pulse in the last 70 or so years. Give the man time to recruit and a few years to outlast the effect of the sanctions, and we will see what he can do.

PSUPALY, I think Franklin is a great recruiter, but he still needs to take it up a notch.

This is how I judge any coach from another team regardless of rivalry, banter, but trying to be objective. If Franklin was recruiting for Pitt like he is recruiting for Penn State, i would be thankful for his skills, persuasion, and efforts and that is why he deserves at least 3 to 5 years to prove he is a great coach too, and not just a Top recruiter that i feel he has proven in 2014, 2015, and doing greta in 2016.

Coach Narduzzi has only been at Pitt for less than 6 months but he has his work cut out for him as well, and no one knows how he will do this year either. I am happy for Coach Pat coming to Pitt, and I am glad Pitt and Penn State are playing against each other again.

I feel Coach Narduzzi deserves his time to set up his recruiting but right now without a doubt Coach Franklin is doing a great job at Penn State and if coach Pat & Staff was doing the same, Pitt fans were be overjoyed to be honest. It is up to Coach Pat & Staff to meet the challenge of coach Franklin & Staff.

My only other point is that Coach Franklin is not just out recruiting Pitt in these last 2 Classes and right now, he out recruiting every Program except Ohio State and Michigan State right now.

If one wants to be objective and fair there is no vice in accepting the challenge Franklin as set from Day One when he was announced the New Coach at Penn State!

Yet, Penn State has been out recruiting since 1985 and Pitt still has done well in recruiting Special Highly Skilled Talent for Pitt and at less numbers but proven higher quality player for the NCAA and NFL.

I have no problem in wishing Penn State continued upward success and I think if both programs can get back to being Top 25 Programs together it is even better, as they did in the 1970s and early 1980s.

I didn't see any Vandy games Franklin coached. Therefore, my opinion of him is limited to what I saw last year. You cannot argue the guy can recruit. The PSU defense last year was stellar...but I tend to credit Shoop more than Franklin. The PSU offensive line was horrible so it is hard to give a good evaluation...but I'll try. It is my opinion the PSU offense was very similar in talent to what Tom Savage had at Pitt. When I compare the two...I look at what Chryst did vs Franklin. The records were the same. The big difference in my eyes is Chryst did what he could to protect Savage. Franklin put it all on Hack. My preference would have been for Franklin to stick with his ineffective running game longer...much like Chryst did. I'm not sure the results would have been any different, but I think Hack may not have regressed as much. We should have a much better idea about Franklin's coaching this year. The OL should be better and he has had more time with Hack.

This is a very fair assessment with insight and great comparison and I appreciated reading it. We know Coach Dantonio has Coach Pat Narduzzi by his side too on developing great Defenses, just like Shoop is doing. We shall see if Dantonio found a replacment for Coach Pat too, and i have no doubt he will because he is such a great Head Coach?

The other comments you made are spot on as well. How Franklin has put Hack in Harm Way can be seen how some Penn State Players left Penn State to go Pro, even though they would go in the later rounds when they could have stayed and maybe be a Top First or Third Rounder!

At some point, Recruits are going to see that Franklin has promised everyone of them they can start at Penn State like he is doing now, but over time, reality will set in, and some will come to see, they could have started and played elsewhere faster and better, as Pitt and other programs have proven the last 50 years even under Paterno and that is Franklin challenge as well.

I will note one more thing, Coach O'Brien couldn't wait to leave Penn State over the Paterno Cultists and Jay Paterno underhanded undercutting of his coaching.

Yet, coach O'Brien took Tom Savage for Houston and has played him, and I think he will do the same by taking Hackenberg, if he makes himself eligible in 2016, this will be a tell-tell sign of what hack thinks about Franklin's Coaching. We shall see?

Thank you for a great post!

PSU started last season with 67 "prized recruit" players on their roster (What sanctions? And it could have been more if the Dominatrix hadn't shown so many upperclassmen the door). Fewer than many of their opponents, but not the half or 40% as their coaches insisted during the season. They did not need to play walk-ons across the board, as their fans portrayed it.
That number will be much higher this year, but will contain even more true & redshirt Freshmen. Actually, they may even pass Pitt as the youngest college team this year.
