Is we bout to be looking for a new AD?

So rather than lend a helping hand you’d rather watch Pitt drown from lack of support. You are either part of the problem or part of the solution.
You don't see me complaining about Pitt's performance for a reason. I identified several problems that Pitt will never overcome to reach the level of unreasonable expectations. My expectations are not the same.

I've said many times that a university's primary function is not sports so I don't emphasize its importance in my life. It is entertainment for me. I watch it on TV just like I watch movies. I pay to watch it on TV and don't contribute to the school. I have higher priorities to fund.

If you consider me to be part of the problem, then it is a problem that you have and not one that I have.

Your response is incredibly devoid of logic. The fact that he has had one dimension offenses and been forced to rely on that single dimension to produce a decent offense doesn’t vindicate him from failing to put an offense on the field that is balanced in the first place. You want to have a good offense then you have to be able to run and pas. That’s a response that is probably too nuanced for you to comprehend.

The defense speaks for itself….you could put together a long documentary of Pitt opponents scoring long touchdowns on blown coverages during his 9 year term of defensive ingenious. Paris Ford is still spinning from TEs running past him for long TDs.
Have you never heard Narduzzi repetitive comments about wanting to have a balanced offense? Apparently, your dislike of him has caused you become deaf and blind as well.

That doesn't mean coaches need to play to their strengths. That seems to be a concept that overwhelms your pea-brain.

Yep. I'm part of the problem, a problem that I identified as a limitation for Pitt that is not going away. In fact, it will just become worse.
Yes we know
Like I said - generations of dead beats who post but don’t buy tickets or donate , and sure won’t attend games .

You can talk until the cows come home….to date he’s been able neither to recruit well enough to put a balanced O on the field annually or to select ICs who he could both get along with and are capable of doing so. You’re a poser and not knowledgeable about FB.

Huh. When people complain about his defensive philosophy, they typically say he's too stubborn to stray from his system and play to his players' strengths. But when his offense does play to its player strengths - such as having a dominant runner like Abanikanda or dominant passing combo like Pickett/Addison, you complain that he fails to have an offensive identity.

The reality is that you don't like Narduzzi so will always find something to be critical o
I do think Narduzzi is overpaid relative to performance by about 25-50%.
He’s a good enough coach to maintain a program , but not good enough to elevate it .
He’s an expensive version of every coach we’ve had since Walt Harris .
And like all of those coaches , he’s utterly replaceable .
He’s not Jamie Dixon .

LOL. It must be so because you believe it to be.

"According to Johnson and his family, he was advised to take a plea deal by the athletic administration at the time for a misdemeanor to put this situation behind him and return to the court at Pitt. As promised, he made his debut on the Panthers' foreign tour in the summer of 2023, proving to be a future star in Pittsburgh with his debut across the pond. Upon returning, however, he found news that he was no longer allowed to be a student at Pitt after a change in campus administration. The new administrators found that his plea violated the school's code of conduct. Johnson met with the coaching staff at Pitt and they advised him that his best bets would be to play overseas or find a junior college and get back on the court as soon as possible."

You got me on something I've discussed here for many years.

Congratulations on your reading skills.

No coach that you want will come to Pitt. No coach that will come to Pitt will recruit better than Narduzzi.

You live in a fantasy world.

So you're saying that's why Lyke was fired?

Thanks for proving my point. Is Gabel multiple personalities - as in "new administrators"?

Recruit and retain perhaps, but he has developed a good amount of talent during his tenure. Many former 2 and 3 star recruits playing on Sunday.

Hail to Pitt!

Dave

Not as many as you think Dave. Do a little research on current Pitt players in the pros and compare it to other power 5 schools.

Dez is from FL and no FBS school wanted him.

Your second paragraph is complete nonsense.

What's that mean? Pat Narduzzi has been here for a decade and our best player is 1-aa transfer?

I'm as far from an enemy of Pitt as one can get.

It is supporters like you, though, that bring failure to a school's teams.
You are one of these guys who whose form of support( lmao) mirrors that of every one of Pitt’s worst detractors. Keep up the good work!

Let's revisit your statement. "He can't recruit, develop, or retain great players in this climate."

- His recruiting is limited, just as it would be with any coach at Pitt. He recruits as well as or better than Pitt's limitations "in this climate".
- He develops as well as or better than anyone. He has put the 5th most players in the NFL among ACC teams, most of which have had higher recruiting rankings. That's called development. Undoubtedly, the same is true of the P4 schools you want him to. Their recruiting gets them higher stars that translate to pros with less development needed.
- His reputation for player retention is unquestioned. He has lost 1 great player to the portal - Addison.

Your post was nonsense.

I don't "detract" Pitt at all. Your understanding of the written is severely lacking, just like your football acumen.

From what I've observed, there are plenty of posters here that think if an AD is trying to run a healthy athletic department top to bottom and isn't putting 99% of financial resources into football and basketball while running everything else on the thinnest budget possible; that they aren't pro-revenue sports enough.

As conference realignment continues to be a concern for Pitt; I feel that something like Victory Heights will only be an asset in positioning. Conference networks mean non-revenue sports are being televised when they hadn't been previously to fill out programming schedules and if a school's facilities are embarrassing to show on television; that's a strike against it compared to schools with better facilities in what will be a cutthroat positioning competition to see what schools find a home with relevance and what schools get left behind.

I do wonder what this means for the football team's future at Acrisure Stadium. Going to Cincinnati and seeing the visual of a full Nippert Stadium drove home how much better it would look during a broadcast if Pitt was playing in a right sized stadium. On campus would be nice; but challenging. Joan Gabel came from a university that in recent history moved from playing in an NFL stadium to an on-campus facility, so she would probably have as good an idea as anyone about the pros and cons of such a move.

That said, I'm still undecided on if Gabel is a pro-athletics chancellor or not. What little I know about her tenure at Minnesota does not really answer that question for me.
This is one of the best posts since the news broke.

I understand the need to fund football and basketball.

But non revenue sports are much like putting a new roof on your house. Its expensive, necesarry, without much reward other than intended purpose.

I believe Heather rightly had an eye on Pitt's conference future....and no conference would take us with our non revenues in the shape they were in when she got here. Upgrading had to be done and i wonder if HL and the Admin were blindsided by the difficulties in raising funds for victory heights. 12 million raised on a 275 mill project +/-.

I will also remind FWIW, that it was Heather that scrapped tennis.

We needed to upgrade non revenues. Now its time to upgrade NIL. Whether Gabel picks the right person and there is an appropriate reaponse still remains.

Too early, in my view, to conclude whether Bell will be successful, although I like what I have seen to date. My comment wasn’t actually directed at him or his system. More to the point, I haven’t been a fan of any of Narduzzi’s previous OCs or his ability to establish an offensive brand which appeals to skill position players, particularly QBs. In my opinion the quality of
Pitt’s O’s under Narduzzi have held the program back except for 2021. He’s had teams that can’t pass and teams that can’t run and teams that couldn’t do either…his O’s have been all over the place.
I don't think there is a certain system that attracts QBs. You saw Jordan Travis at FSU last year and TVD at Miami... The U pulls in Cam Ward and the Noles are stuck riding DJU. Narduzzi has always tried to achieve balance with his offense, remain physical and recruit the best talent possible. When his offenses have talent, they tend to perform pretty well. When they don't, they tend to suck. Pretty simple, and actually that way at most schools.
Yea, lord forbid …..we don’t want fans who demand excellence…..you’re probably a Lyke supporter….good riddance to an AD satisfied with 5 losses per year.
Demanding excellence at Pitt is like demanding luxury car performance with a $15,000 budget. Within the last 3 years, college football has morphed into a sport where Pitt can't compete at a high level. Demanding excellence from a school that hasn't put together so much as ONE freaking Top 10 recruiting class is insane.

Whether it was Gabel or someone she hired in the new administration, its the same thing. Had she not been hired, Dior would have still been on the team.
You continue with the myth. And I'll continue to point out that it is a myth.

If your perspective is shared by those at Pitt… and I have never heard anyone in the athletics dept. so indicate..,, they should just shut the FB program down. The state of affairs today doesn’t preclude getting to a better place tomorrow unless you give up like the joker who loved your post

Pitt's situation will never be equal to the top 20 schools. You continue to live in a fantasy world.

I'm just being realistic. Considering the people that work in Pitt's athletic department are pretty much dependent upon the football program for their income, it's probably best they don't shut the program down. It doesn't have to be good to be the athletic department's biggest source of revenue.

You simply can't have an elite football program without an elite NIL. It can't be done. Until that changes, mediocrity is the ceiling. I'm not happy about it either, but it is what it is. Pitt wasn't exactly throwing a lot of extra benefits at recruits to sign talent before NIL. Now that football factory schools are going bat-shit crazy throwing money around thanks to the portal & NIL, Pitt is further on the wrong side of the divide.

It's not just a Pitt thing. Just watching Saturday's game, it was fairly obvious Cincinnati didn't get their 2021 "recruiting bump" either. 😂And just a quick glance at the polls, it appears TCU didn't get theirs either.

You continue with the myth. And I'll continue to point out that it is a myth.

I have what Dior and his family said. You have what reporters said. I also have common sense in that he was enrolled in school for the spring and summer and was a full member of the team, even going to Spain.

None of what you "have" proves your claim, though.

It is a myth.

And neither do you. I have what Dior and his family said. Pitt has made no comment so all you have are rumors from reporters. Dior and his family are more credible than a rumor. And as always, there is common sense. He was back on the team.

That’s why you are a lousy supporter. You perceive issues and can’t see a brighter future. You should work in a morgue.
If some big money billionaire, multi-millionaire type boosters want to throw their hat in the ring and start bringing in recruiting classes on par with tOSU, USC, UGA, BAMA, LSU, etc, then yeah, the future will most certainly be a lot brighter. If not, it won't. It's pretty much that simple.

I've had about 35 years to digest that.

I've enjoyed Pitt football much more the last 10 years since I've learned to accept Pitt football for what it is rather than whine because it's not what it was when I became a fan in the glory years.

And neither do you. I have what Dior and his family said. Pitt has made no comment so all you have are rumors from reporters. Dior and his family are more credible than a rumor. And as always, there is common sense. He was back on the team.
I don't have to have anything. You're the one asserting it was Gabel. The burden is on you.

That’s why you are a lousy supporter. You perceive issues and can’t see a brighter future. You should work in a morgue.
I've been a fan since the 70's. I have watched the last 40 years play out and understand that Pitt can catch lightning in a bottle occasionally, like in '21, but there is no way it can consistently play with big boys. I choose to recognize reality and enjoy my "fandom". I would never want to be a whiner miserable person like you.

I live a great and happy life. I'm as far from a morgue as you can get. You, on the other hand...

I already said that. I don't contribute. I never will, either.

But it is your problem, not mine.
Pitt has one of the worst fanbases in the country. Small in size and cheap. Why do you even waste your time on a sports message board?
