Milan Brown new twitter follow - looks like he can shoot it, bouncy too

You’re 3pt shooter is supposed to be impactful. Would anyone say Murphy has been an impactful player for us?

Ironically, I think his most impactful game was FSU on Opening Day when he hit 3 or 4 threes. Once he got onto the opposing team scouting reports he was largely ineffective.
As gary said, Murphy went 3/3 from deep against Boston College, and hit the game winning two. That's pretty impactful - but I think your larger point is that it's not a terribly long list.

He played pretty well until late January and then was completely invisible. I think he's figured out and I'm not sure we can expect much more than the post-BC game Murphy out of him going forward. Frankly, if he's going to play 10-15 mins per night to just get us 3 points, I'd rather play Drumgoole.

Thought Drumgoole actually played pretty well last night - easily his best game of the year. Then again, Murphy also hit a pair of three pointers.

Drumgoole doesn't look to be in great shape. Doesn't seem to handle the ball particularly well either. Kind of disappointed in his quickness as well.

He definitely needs to get into better shape. The injury may have impacted his conditioning.
I agree with this. He always was a bigger kid even back in high school (former D1 tight end recruit, after all) but after looking at pictures from the season opener compared to now, it's clear that the injury affected his conditioning. A good, healthy offseason will be really nice for all three of the freshmen.

I always struggle with this. I totally get how injuries can affect your conditioning and weight. I've broken my foot and many toes on two different occasions over the past 18 months. It sucks. I've gained weight due to immobility. However, I'm in my late 30s.

How do college kids and NBA players like Embiid in his early 20's, gain so much weight after injuries? I'd expect both at Pitt and especially professionally, these guys are meeting with nutritionists several times a week to change their diet until they are able to do cardio again. Does that not happen?

If Murphy wasnt on the roster, we'd be 4-16 in the ACC. I don't think he was used properly. They ran no stuff for him and there was no concerted effort to get him looks

Mostly right. There was the injury and he lost confidence, but

The coaching staff and his teammates could have enabled him to be more.

He is a project for sure - not a Trey, X or even Toney caliber athlete.
One thing that bothered me in his HS video and watched about a half dozen of his team's games is that he has a hard time keeping his feet when he has to jump vertically with explosion.
Not sure about his feet.
He has a decent game and IF he can lock in on his shooting can be a decent complimentary piece. But, jury is still very much out.

These athletes burn so many calories (probably even moreso at the pro level) it’s often times work to keep weight on. It has to be a pretty big adjustment when they’re sidelined. I would have to imagine they do have nutritional advice but maybe when they’re sidelined they get like a lot of us - they eat just because.

A lot of players eat like absolute garbage. It's completely shocking. The Sixers away team instagram videos always show them destroying McDonalds and other fast food.

These bad habits are in no way confined to Pitt and the Sixers. They're mostly everywhere for players of that age.

Oh for sure. I'd see Panthers at the McDonald's around 1/2AM all the time when I was at Pitt. This was like 2003-05 when we were really good. I'd be hammered and they'd just be there chilling. Was always shocking they could eat that way, that late and still be world class level athletes.

Agree about his post-injury conditioning. He has never been a quick twitchy athlete. He needs to get his shooting squared away for next year to be the player here looked like in high school.

The thing that was immediately evident in Murphy was how slow he was on defense. Early in the year, the small school guys were blowing by him. His plus side was quick hands, so he got some steals, but he just couldnt protect and play close D.

Nice guy, glad we took a chance on him, but he really couldnt cut it. If he was dead eye shooting, then yeah, he can play as a pinch hitter, come in hit some threes and be more useful, but he struggled for so long, really had no benefit playing.
