Joey porters idea of tackling

He's as good as how much the refs allow him to hold and get away with DPIs. Unfortunately the refs can't help him tackle.
So if the refs allow him to put up the stats among the best shutdown corners in the league, doesn't that mean that he's still one of the best shutdown corners in the league?

Gerritt Cole is only as good as the umpires call strikes for him.

They didn't help Deion Sanders tackle, either, and he worked out just fine.

Of all of the stupid threads on the internet, this one is right up there.

Yeah, but if the refs start calling him for holding on every play then he won't be very good any more, will he?

I mean sure, you could say that about every defensive back. And every offensive lineman for that matter. Because the refs simply don't officiate the game that way. But if they start? Woah, look out!

You mean like Pitt's defensive backs? Narduzzi's entire philosophy hinges on the fact that he knows officials can't just throw flags all day.

I dont watch a ton of NFL but it appears they call far fewer PIs than in college football, probably because its a spot foul. They can throw a flag on the Pedo every play if they wanted to but perhaps the same can be said for most NFL corners. NFL refs appear to let most of that contact go. So credit to him for getting away with it. He's lucky he wasnt charged with assault on that last play vs the Browns. His brand of physically holding the WR appears to be working. And we know Pedos like contact.

Yes, he's a pedo, masturbates over child porn in the locker room at halftime after calling Sandusky for tips :)

In fact, everybody who ever attended Penn State is a pedo. Everybody who has ever lived in a neighborhood with PSU grads is also a pedo. And, for certain, everyone who has ever flown over State College is likely a pedo.

This is easy.

Yeah maybe hes not quite a pro bowl caliber DB but he’d start on most teams and is easily the best Db the Steelers have. If they had another Db like him the defense would be much better
And regardless of where he played college football and what that means to some people he's a great kid.

In one of the interviews he did a while back he was asked about his old man and his temperment (or lack there of....). His response was that he tries to be like his Mom off the field and be like his Dad on the field. Something to be said for that.

Disclaimer, I know the family a bit. Joey is a great kid. He's been maligned here far too much because of where he went to school. There were posts made here by liars while he was in school that he was a problem and was in trouble and a diva and high maintenance blah blah blah, none of which was remotely true. Ask Walker what he thinks about him if you want more proof.

Clearly he tackles like his mom ! Killer Jerry killer!

Clearly he tackles( or avoids tackles) like his mom ! Its gold jerry gold .

I am sorry that some of you have to make everything into a Pitt vs Penn State thing, but if Kenny Pickett was as good at his job as JPJr was at his, there would be ZERO criticism of Kenny. There, I said it.

You don't have to say it. We all know it.

Porter is having a fine rookie season. Pickett is struggling in his second year. Any neutral observer can see that both are true.

Sure, that's why he is the Steelers rookie of the year........ and has the highest PPF CB rating on the team.

Yep, prevented that one pass which would've been a huge gain for Baltimore.
I mean I think Muth is very much overrated , since he can’t block.
Washington I think may end up being better .

But for a rookie 2nd rounder to be such an impact player is pretty exciting .
Particularly at a position we really needed help at .

Washington is strictly a blocker. Dudes not fast enough to be a legit receiving target

They need to put a feed bag on him and convert him to tackle. Hes already better than Moore

Not for nothing
Washington ran a 4.64 40 in the combine
Frieemuth ran a 4.77

We just need his blocking , because he’s been terrific

I don't get why people need to add Muth disclaimers to conversations about Porter? One has nothing to do with other, I'm rooting for both to succeed, Kenny too, and of the 3 he's the one who needs to improve the most, but why should these three be in the same conversation?

Because that’s the discussion I wanted to add
And I didn’t mention Kenny at all, weirdo

People will always find fault with Muth that is over the top, because he, too, went to school somewhere to the east.
I havnt seen much criticism of Muth that is over the top. He is a terrible blocker. The question is does tbis offense under utilize his as a receiver or is he just not that good

I'm going with the former, for now. The Canada offense didn't seem to utilize anyone properly.

Several things can be true about JP.
- He has no interest in tackling, especially RBs
- He's a been a pretty good cover guy
- He's handsy and you'll need to live with some penalties

He is what everyone thought he was coming out of college, which is a good thing. He was never going to support the run and be a willing tackler. Everyone knew he was handsy, which is what helps him in coverage.

I get frustrated myself when you watch him jog 20 yards next to Gus Edwards waiting for someone else to make the tackle. But, that's not why you drafted him, and that's why he was still available.

Mark Madden has a woodie for KP so he can’t resist taking a shot at him at every opportunity
Kenny deserves it, or do you think he's lived up to a #1 draft pick selection? If so explain, not excuses about everyone else's deficiencies, give us what he is doing so well.

Mt Washington is a dilemma. We see absolute pancake blocks and he looks like a freak, then we'll see him absolutely whiff on blocks, like completely miss the defender or go the wrong way. just great or awful.

i dont think it's athleticism, at first i thought it was because he was coming in motion or moving, that was causing his issues then i'd see him come in motion and murder a guy.

maybe it's just him getting to know the offense a bit more and getting reps and comfort at this level. i do like him. i'll be honest, i was expecting more from a pass catching ability from him but then again, matt canada was the OC so who the hell knows...

Believe it or not, he probably has lived up to his draft position for QBs. We've been through this before, but you just ignore facts that people post and defer to what you believe the answer should be.

So you should probably change your bitching and moaning to "Kenny hasn't overperformed his draft position", because a QB taken in the 20s has always been a crap shoot.
