Just spoke with a friend who is employed in a management capacity by Disney...

Fact check - False

Category Total Amount Share of the Package
Individuals / Families $603.7 billion 30%
Big Business $500.0 billion 25%
Small Business $377.0 billion 19%
State and Local Government $340.0 billion 17%
Public Services $179.5 billion 9%

And the small business program is essentially money for individuals because the qualification for having it forgiven is a business has to keep those employees on their payroll - so basically half for individuals

The big business component is loans - not grants

You forgot the couple of trillion being pumped into the markets.

That's great. How about you dispute my post and make your own prediction? Kennywood this summer?

Things are opening up but there will be 0 mass gatherings until a vaccine/effective treatment

Unless you have a really narrow definition of what a mass gathering is, you are dead wrong. Hell , beaches in the Jacksonville area already opened and drew lots of people

The beach is open for swimming, fishing, running/walking. Sunbathing and congregating arent allowed. It is essentially a park

You forgot the couple of trillion being pumped into the markets.

I gave you everything that was in the stimulus.

What the Federal Reserve has done is separate - and none of that went to businesses or individuals. It was used to help support the smooth functioning of the financial markets and will eventually be unwound at some point in the future like they did with TARP

There will be mass gathering soon.
There has to be.

Our economy can't function with 0 mass gathering and wont wait until 2021.

Healthy people dont die from Covid or the flu and we're in the process if learning how to deal with Covid pre vaccine.

When they report a healthy person died from Covid for sensational news someone always days later tells the real story the person had underlying conditions. That's fact.

There won't be Zero risk or even close, people will still contract covid, and some with comorbidities will still die.
That's life.

The Nj and other beaches will be open, boardwalks, parks, golf courses, casinos all this summer.

Those can all be done with social distancing restrictions. I am sorry but nobody is going to let 100K people into a football game. Its. Not. Happening.

J&J? The same Johnson & Johnson that aggressively pushed Oxycontin to people, that didn't need it, for a huge profit and has been getting crushed in court?
Take the good with the bad.
Drs pushed it , J&J made it but were in the guilty party chain.

There's some personal responsibility involved as well.
My wife's Dr prescribed it for her after surgery. After day one she handed me the bottle and told me to call the Dr and get something different since it was to strong.
Plus the Dr gave her way more than she needed.

Pharma sets up reserves for the occasional bad happening since its inevitable from time to time.
They're one of the best quality investments out there.
They didn't get to crushed the stock is at at 5 yr high.

Its a mass gathering. And sunbathing will not be far behind

A beach is not a confined space. You dont have 100K people all squished together. At this point, it is a park. Would anyone stop you from going for a swim in the Allegheny River when it gets warm?

Ok mister pharmacist - educate everyone here on how the economy could survive being shut down for over a year until a vaccine is developed.

I will wait. This should be good.

The economy is screwed regardless. "Opening up does" very little because life can't be normal until there is a vaccine.

Kirk Herbstreit would be very unhappy with these 2. ;);)...I thought my millenial nephew was bad. Lol

Its a mass gathering. And sunbathing will not be far behind

There will be sunbathing on the beaches in July.
Noone will rent summer homes, hotels, without swimming, and laying out in the beach.
Boardwalks and beach bars will be functioning too.

Take a state like nj.
Its a piece of land with some highways thru it and its lucky enough to be next to ocean.

Without a normal beach summer season the entire Jersey shore goes bankrupt.
Most homes are for rental, hotels go bankrupt, restaurants, casinos, banks go under since mortgages arent paid and this applies to the entire east coast Maine to Fl.

We're beach people, we spend the summer there.
More people sunbatfh than go in the water.
Without the beach noooe will go.

I can promise that's not happening.
FL beaches are open SC, NC, GA on up the coast will follow.

Those if you afraid of going out stay inside it's your option.

I don't disagree with this. The key is a relatively effective treatment.

The subway in New York has been operating throughout - that is a mass gathering with 1000's of people squished together

The economy is screwed regardless. "Opening up does" very little because life can't be normal until there is a vaccine.

Really? People can't go back to work until there is a vaccine?

Manufacturing can't operate until there is a vaccine?

Doctor offices can't open until there is a vaccine?

Restaurants can't open until there is a vaccine?

Stores can't open until there is a vaccine?

There is a liability question buried in the calculus (wait til hospital employees and their families head to court over the lack of protective gear). If you're Disney, you don't need to be a source of the spread. Remember that time Chi Chi's had people get sick from the food and it cost them everything? But imagine how hard it would be for them to maintain proper social distancing and clean things properly. The other issue is that the critical infrastructure that funnels people to their parks isn't functioning well. Airlines, trains, hotels...so only a limited number of people will be able to make it and many more won't even try. No point in operating at a loss, either.

And isn't that where the most cases of COVID19 are? See a problem with that?

And yet they continue to operate. As does the mass transit system in Pittsburgh where very few cases are. And mass transit systems throughout the country. So mass gatherings are already taking place

Hey yeah those subways can hold 60,000+

Mass gathering are mass gathering.
Density is what counts and as Superstien pts out mass transit mass gathering are already happening 60, 6,000 , or 60,000 its density that counts not the number of people.

There's alot of posters routing against American, finding every reason to slow things down.

I've never said to stop working etc. But sports on the other hand can take a hiatus until there is a vaccine. My life will go on with or without sports. I would be devastated if Pitt were to play and one of our players die from the virus. I would feel bad for anyone else for that matter. Everyone has his/her own opinion but sometimes common sense is good to have too.

We don't have a vaccine for the common cold. We don't have a vaccine for influenza. Every year we get a flu shot to help fight 4 viruses but lots of people still get the flu. There is no vaccine for HIV, yet people are still having promiscuous sex. Nobody paid attention to the Spanish flu because there was a world war going on and yet it killed 50 million people world wide.

At some point we have to take a chance and get out there and reopen the economy.

If the U.S economy implodes, the world economy will go as well.

Would you rather get Covid-19 and have a good chance of survival or would you rather watch everything you worked for go down the drain and ultimately starve to death?

Businesses can open up if they want to. That doesn't guarantee people will flock back immediately. Businesses are going to fail. Just like people are going to die.
Those two items are for sure.

The unknown question is who is going to accept the liability for this. I'm sure the insurance companies and especially the lawyers are reading these tealeaves. I would bet that the insurance companies that offer liability and workers comp. are already increasing their premiums. They really don't have a choice.

The lawyers are also sharpening their pencils just drooling at the thought of going after the
nfl or any team that has a player, or a member of the players family, or a support staff die from this. The guy that fell off the scaffold at norte dame his settlement will be peanuts compared to this one.

Can any university president or Board of Directors accept this risk? Some on this board feel it is not a big risk, we shall see.
I would anticipate that by mid to late May decisions will have to be made on the fall football schedule. We will see who wins out. An old adage states to follow the money.
40 days and counting.

I work and live within my means and don't live check to check. I have learned from past mistakes about overspending not saying you do but just in general.
I do also, but that doesn’t change the situation. When people get desperate, stupid things happen. Stupid is coming if we don’t have reasonable solutions soon.

And it is not reasonable to shut down the country for many months.

None of us have any idea how this will play out, and I suppose our predictions are based upon what we want to believe. My belief is that things will keep migrating toward normal sooner than a lot think. There won't be successful lawsuits rampant because anything made available to the public, including higher education, will likely be offered in an 'at your own risk' setting.

As someone else already said, if you're scared, stay home. No one will force you to take classes, or to go to Disney World; you'll be warned about the risks, and you'll make your own choice. Or I'll be totally wrong...

You couldn’t pay me enough money to take my kids to a Disney park. There ls not enough money on this planet.

Think of the accumulation of foreign and domestic trash and filth that congregate in mass numbers at Disney world every day. To be stuck in a closed area next to that? No way in hell.

The subway is essential transportation. It is the ONLY means of transportation for many ESSENTIAL workers. Shutting it down is not even an option. Some experts believe that the NYC subway was the main cause of their outbreak but you cant shut it down. What's its ridership now? 1/10 of what it was?

Here's the thing. I've said it a million times. Businesses can open up but they will have little to no business. Not many people will be going to bars, nightclubs, restaurants, malls, etc until there is a vaccine/treatment. These aren't life-sustaining industries. People will go out to eat once a month instead of once a week for example. And mass gatherings, forget it, just not happening. Even Gov. Brainiac from Georgia isnt opening bars and nightclubs

I hear you, but that’s your choice. It won’t be everyone’s.

Sports will have fans prior to a vaccine.
The virus can be managed especially when the numbers are on the way done.

J&J's Chief Scientific Officer reported the are fifteen major treatments that will be out prior to a vaccine, with three in the near term.

Oh yes.Not all by J&J so dont run out and buy the stock.
He was presenting Covid The True Story vaccine and treatment potential which is different from the fiction you hear on cable news.

Do you have a link to that interview?

Two different things, vaccine or treatment. One won’t be available for close to a year, acceptable forms of the other maybe sooner than later. A reasonably effective treatment will embolden 75% of the population (my guess). To be clear, I’m not talking about 100,000 in a football stadium. But most reasonable people will trade that for relative freedom.

This. I have a feeling by June we will have a few treatments approved and most will accept that we need to start the move towards normalcy. Waiting on a vaccine is very risky and I’ve even seen some experts say it shouldn’t even be elevated enough to be considered a strategy. Like another poster said, the virus will still kill because many who die from it are very sick to begin with, but we’ll have a better idea of how to treat and manage it

I’ll sign a waiver, wear a mask with a welders shield and gloves, bring a bottle of water and won’t tailgate at games. Stadiums should only allow one third capacity. Nobody, I mean nobody with a co-morbidity will attend.

That’s how bad I want our Football season to start.

Hoops in January. No non-conference games in front of fans. 1/3 capacity for conference games. Players and staff sign waivers and travel via bus. Stay in specific hotels.

What happened to cars? Mass Transit isn’t close to being essential. It is also about the worst case for transmission.
