Kenny Sidelines

What happened on the 2nd drive that went 3 and out? I stepped away. The first drive was Pickens fault on the sideline route.
The 2nd drive was like a mirror image of the first one. Pickett threw to the left sidelines incomplete to a blanketed Austin.

Austin was manhandled by the Raves CB and couldn’t come back to the ball. But it was … a flawed play design … as the entire game has been so far.

We need a real quarterback. I know everything else sucks, too, and I'm sure Kenny would be fine if he were in the 49ers offense. But we need a real quarterback.

A dedicated fan there should shoot Canada since they won’t fire him. Everyone would contribute to his (or her) legal defense.

Still…it’s the high priced defense that’s most concerning.

Omg the play calls… so bad, Cignetti is laughing (or taking notes)
They really are bad … it does not help how CBS showed WR separation on that third down and there was literally 0 separation … I hate saying this but they miss Johnson as though he drops passes, he gets open.

Dropped ball on 1st down. Bad play call for a loss on 2nd down. 3rd and 11 failed conversion. Drive stalled.

Rinse. Wash. Repeat.

It’s possible they think Pickett is incapable of hitting a receiver on the move. It’s possible he truly cannot, either. It wasn’t a strength of his at Pitt until a few good games in 21.

But it seems far more likely the receivers aren’t fast enough / good enough route runners plus cannot get separation. But then who knows because the play calls don’t require it.

It’s all bad

Pitt and the Steelers: Two defensive-minded head coaches who devote all their time and resources to defenses that still suck.

I tend to think it is more the play calls than Pickett because none of it seems to make sense even with Pickett’s strengths. The insistence to move a right handed guy left is bizarre, along with habitually packing the offense tight on first and second down when it is clear Pickett is much more comfortable with a spread field.

I thought taking a shot on Canada was interesting because he represented something different. But at the pro level, he looks more like a one trick pony as in he challenges assignments for the D and not much else …

Pickett is like 4th on the list of offensive problems below stuff like Oline, bad WR routes & separation and most of all Matt Canada….
He is one of the problems though. So I wish they’d call the bluff and put in Mitchie. I’m no hypocrite, it was right to bench Jurkovec and it might be right to yank Pickett. It’s often a desperate change to yank the QB, but it IS a change and when what you’re doing has failed for an entire season, you owe the fans the effort to change something

I tend to think they both suck and it's the philosophy that needs to change.

Pickett is good at throwing on the move but these short side rollout plays as such low reward that why keep calling it? No one is caught off guard when you have your slot or TE run a 5 yard sideline route and even when it works whoop dee doo! This offense is so bad to watch

That just isn't going to happen..we have at least 15 games before the Steelers would think of that. And as bad as he's looked that's probably fair.. if you believed in him enough to take him round one at least give him two seasons of games to see what he has.

All the things mentioned in this thread are the reasons players on the opposing teams have said this offense is easy to defend. That is the biggest indictment of an OC you can have.

Nobody says the change needs to be permanent. You try it to shake things up. Freaking Terry Bradshaw was benched … multiple times.

Nothing is more important than the game being played THIS day. You play to win. You coach to win. You kill your own mother if needed to win. Some programs rape five year boys thinking that it helps them win.

Ok …too far. But to throw away whole games, whole seasons, for some ridiculous unwritten rules, it’s absurd, and it’s a disservice to the customers. Some of those drunken fools at that game today, this might be the only time in their lives they make it to a Steelers game. And this what they are being subject to.
