The only constant in pitt's decline from national prominence in the late 70s and early 80s is the inept members of the board of trustees..these are the people who are technically in charge of the university, including the right to control, hire and fire chancellors... you can count one 1 or 2 fingers the number who have challenged any of our disastrous athletic policies since that time, including the catastrophic decision to give up control of the site of your football program by moving to Three Rivers/Heinz field, the funding of our major sports, including salaries and recruiting expenses, conference affiliations(including accepting Penn State's orchestration the blocking of our admission to the big 10)_all this time they act like concerned buffoons, attending receptions , flying on team charters to away games, with all expenses paid--all the time committing our teams to playing at the highest levels without the resources necessary to compete.... some of this came to light when a few(very few)challenged the adminstration on details of the stadium move and operation, and asked for independent information on competitive program coaches salaries..... it was all pushed aside...wake up pitt students, alums and fans....we can't win unless people in charge actually want to win... period. Nobody wants to rock the boat for fear it might affect them personally and professionally......Penn state couldn't do a better job of neutralizing their one time rival than if they actually controlled our board
