Let’s not jump off the deep end here people

your opinion is typically wrong
Yeah like my Hugley opinion and 4 years of terrible basketball teams followed by one slightly above average one. Get this man an extension! Norfolk State might get in a bidding war with us!

You bring literally no basketball analysis to the board. I may be wrong every once in a while but at least there’s reason behind it other than just climbing on Capel’s nuts.

I’m using his past and what they’re bringing in as evidence as we’ll take a step back.

They’re not gonna add 4 24 year old guards all willing to share the ball. He’s gonna rely a lot on the younger kids next year and they’ll take a step back. It’s my opinion

There will be an ample supply of Nelly Cummings's and Greg Elliot's in the portal. Maybe not a Jamarius Burton but perhaps Dior stays and can be as good as Mintz, who he was rated higher than. The only major loss is Burton. These are all 1 year players now. There will be so many guys in the portal and we've shown with Gueye and this year's players that we're a pretty good destination for these guys.

lol what kind of analysis do you bring? John Hugley makes us worse? That type of analysis? Pitt won't win 6 ACC games? This team is worse than the winless conference year? Jeff Capel will never make the tournament here? What else?

at least I'm a man of my word .. backing out on a bet when you lose is the definition of a coward.

1) I will not back out of the bet you’re just making stuff up. It’s 100 bucks.

2) John Hugley makes us worse. That’s not really an analysis. It’s a fact. The team was much better as soon as he stopped playing. Coincidence Im sure. He went from being an overrated player to one of the worst players in D1 this year. He is unplayable

3) long way to go before we make the tournament skippy. Which is the point of the original post. Don’t go too overboard because of one loss. Of course you’re going overboard the other way

What is it about a message board that takes some anonymous schlub and turns him into some brave macho type who calls others names and acts all mighty and tough? The definition of a coward is someone who comes on a message board and call others names, like coward. Look in the mirror and grow a set.

This is exactly why I have so many on Ignore.

must've misunderstood your two previous comments to me. Really made it seem like you were backing out.

I refuse to believe Hugley in 15-20 minutes make us worse. The team was better when we found our identity. All these transfers came here to play with him. Every single one. He was the lead recruiter. Inside out basketball. He rushed back and was forcing everything he did on the floor. Was extremely out of shape. You're using like 50 minutes of game action, with John totally out of shape, to make this conclusion.

John last year totally dominated one of the best big men in UNC history. He absolutely forced shots last year... he had to. He had two zero's at guard. There was nothing around him... so yeah, it would've taken time to learn how to contribute to winning basketball. I'm not advocating we dump it into the post to him every possession... but we literally have nothing of such right now. You can't tell me JB and Nelly dribbling a hole in the ground for 25 seconds and then forcing a shot is better offense than getting Hugely the rock in the low post. I would still have JB be your primary playmaker... but we need another wrinkle in this offense. Any team with long, athletic bigs (Duke, FSU) will give us serious trouble. They'll switch everything and our guards aren't nearly quick enough to get by their length. Our guards aren't nearly good enough shooters to shoot over their length.

Hugley at least puts pressure on the defense. Dribbling at the top of the key for 25 seconds puts zero pressure on any defense. Teams wouldn't just double team him for fun.

Did you watch John Hugley play basketball THIS year? He’s unplayable in his current shape. He couldn’t move. Probably cost us the Vandy game.

I did and he was awful and if that's the guy we'd be getting all year, then I'll agree with you.. he makes us worse. I don't think that's the guy we would be getting all year. I saw him courtside at Clemson and he shed off all the extra weight he put on. He looked really good physically.

I disagree with this. He’s a good fan, although a little unrealistic and way too optimistic. I don’t begrudge him for being that way and enjoy our back and forth. But he’s a Pitt fan.

appreciate it and you actually pose an argument in return to my opinion instead of attacking. I admit I'm overly optimistic, but my fandom doesn't waver.... odd how I can be called a disgrace to Pitt fans because I think we're better than others do... doesn't really make sense

I get it. I didn't like the name-calling, that's all. That's abrasive to me.

I didn't call you a single name. You insulted my intelligence by saying I'd make a terrible business man. "Anonymous Schlub". "Macho type". "tough guy" .. I didn't call you a single thing. Not one.

I called BBall a coward because I thought he backed out on our bet.. which I was incorrect, he didn't, and I told him I misunderstood. If he did, then yeah, that's a coward move. A man not keeping his word is a coward.

I never said you called me a name. And I never called you a name. You called bball a name. You called him a coward, which he is not. That's what I meant. Besides, there is no room for name-calling here. It's non-productive. I also disagree with your definition of a coward, but it's irrelevant.

And I explained that I find your language here abrasive. But that's who you are. It takes all types to make up this fanbase. I apologize if you took offense to my post.

What the hell is up with your lovefest year after year for Capel? Seriously dude you must be a relative. Have to be. You think he should get an extension after 4+ years of crap basketball here mixed in with like 6 weeks of progress? Are you for real?
Says the guy who wanted the most successful coach pitt ever had run out of town

I'm not offended at all. I'm baffled that you're calling me names and then saying name calling is non-productive.

FWIW I was optimistic about JD too.. but for the most part, our "fanbase" on here allowed me to be .. just under a different alias.
I was referring to Poker

Capel is going to get another season .
Next season will be the audition for an extension

LOL! I wouldn't say calling you an anonymous schlub, macho type or tough guy is exactly name-calling. And I doubt the board administrators would either. I think most of us can be called all of that at one time or another on here. However, calling someone a coward is an attack on their character and is name-calling.

Let's just say we're good and will disagree on many things. But that's what we do here.

oh I know... but wanted to clear up any confusion regarding my love for Capel... I rooted just as hard for JD and Stallings.. doesn't matter who the coach is, I root.

I wasn't offended by the names you called me.. trust me.. just fascinated by the irony.

if you back out on a bet after you lose, your character should be questioned.. hence me calling him a coward. Again, it was a misunderstanding as he's not backing out on the bet.. so he's not a coward.

amazing how sensitive some people are today.. getting upset over what I called someone else on this board.. unreal.

This is a fair take, but something worth adding is that the transfer portal can make incredible changes to any team from year to year.

I think he’ll experience some success in the portal, but it’s largely a crapshoot. Being able to retain Nike, having Jamarious turn into a first team all ACC player in his extra year, Nelly wanting to come and the prior connection with Elliott from a staff member were crazy circumstances where 4 really solid guards decided to have a shared sacrifice for their last year.

Hitting on Hinson after not playing for 2 years was also a bit of a miracle.

I don’t see the first scenario happening, but the second scenario of hitting on an under the radar guy can happen.

Burton's improvement and Hinson being pretty good may not be able to be replicated. However, come on man, there's a million Nelly's and Elliott's in the portal. You know this. The only major loss as I see it is Burton

PG Nelly vs Dior or Transfer (even)
SG Elliott vs Transfer (even)
SF Burton vs Transfer or Jeffress (2023 Pitt)
PF Hinson vs Hinson (even)
C Fede vs Fede or Hugley (2024 Pitt as even with Fede, he'll improve)

Bench:
Nike, twins, Santos vs twins, Santos, 3 frosh (advantage 2024 Pitt)

Johnson won't be here and Hugley is likely gone also. We're going to have to build around Nike, Fede, Hinson and some mature transfers. The twins and Santos are good off the bench. We'll need some quality depth.

Nike currently is out of eligibility. They should petition for an extra year though

Also, what about Robby Carmody as a nelly like return if he understands he’s a piece? Has a year and could give solid minutes in front of the hometown if healthy.

Well sure, last year might have been luck. But we wouldn’t need quite as much luck/connections to succeed in the portal if we’re selling an NCAAT appearance and the success of Nike, Burton, Nelly, Greg, and Hinson as transfers here.

That’s a big if though - finishing 13-7/14-6 strong as opposed to wilting to a 11-9 type finish.

Carmody??? I thought he was basically disabled? He's played 5 minutes this season and 20 games in his career. Could he even be a key player for a D2 team? How bout Tre Mitchell if Huggy retires? Hugs isnt too happy the admin let Larry Harrison go. Maybe Mom and Dad will be comfortable enough that he wont sneak out at night and join an Elizabeth gang.

Hate to say it, but I will take 11-9. I thing we're starting to wear down. Lack of depth is now taking it's toll.

Very well possible but I think that’s a bit premature just because we lost a game where we shot terribly, had a few huge untimely TOs, and they shot out of their minds.

Need to see what happens tomorrow night. It’s entirely possible Saturday was just an off day.

I'll be there tomorrow regardless.

That's sorta of how I see it. This team has fought hard but had no business being 4-0 with 3 wins over NCAAT teams. 2-4 since is a regression to the mean. I mean they have closed the talent gap to the point where they have a chance to win any game, but the only team in the league that they have a real talent advantage over is Louisville and that's only slightly as Louisville's problems are mostly coach-related. Teams like FSU, ND, GT, BC, VT have just as much if not more talent than we do so it just comes down to who plays better that day. 11-9 and the NIT seem like a good bet right now and we all would have signed up for that in November.

You know even less about the situation than before, which seems impossible.

LOL at thinking the administration who is brand new making Hugs do anything with his staff, let alone mid season. You really are naive.
