Let’s not jump off the deep end here people

Wantash and a few others just posted that a few days ago.
An extension when he has enough years even if we won the ACC would be insane. If he wants to leave for another P5 job, let him.

All I’m saying is we knew they’d lose a bad one, let’s let some more games play out before we lose our heads here. We all still like this team.

Let's see how they play against WF and Miami. If they can at least win 1 of those 2, possibly both, and if they show some signs of life on defense, there is hope for some post season play.

We knew we’d lose a game we shouldn’t and FSU is a bad matchup for us. Let’s not start any sort of weird threads about Capel collapses or anything like that. Keep the faith, Panther faithful. On to the next one.
This is the Pitt fanbase. It's expected but you are right. This is not a complete team and
teams have found ways to stop our guys from getting to the rim. So when the outside shots don't fall it means trouble. Nellie is the key. He has to stop his struggles because when he struggles, the team struggles.

If he wins 10 Conference games, the decision maker (there is only one) will bring him back regardless who they beat. Especially since the already have a few good wins. And the decision maker hired him herself in the first place. All they need is to show a winning season with improvement to bring him back. Especially with another very very good class coming in.

Lol. No one is denying he’s coming back. They’re gonna suck next year as of right now, but that’s neither here nor there. They need to make the tourney this year.

As of right now, Dior and Hugley are on the roster next year. I know you dont think they will be and they may well not be but right now, this is a lineup that has potential

PG - Dior
SG - Transfer
SF - Jeffress (hopefully much improved) or Jorge
PF - Hinson
C - Hugley (hopefully in shape and mentally ok)

Fede, twins, and frosh off bench

That is a lineup that COULD be good. Not saying it will be good but it could be.

Any idea why Guillermo has been getting all the run lately? I kept hearing about how much further along Jorge was then him and it's been some time since Jorge saw any action

Hugley has always, and will always, not be good at basketball

A10 level big at his very best

That lineup sucks

Wake was 23-9/13-7
3-4 Q1
2-4 Q2

But their SOS kept them out. SOS was 94 and Non-con SOS was 259. Our SOS right now is 75 and non-con SOS is 148. 14-6 and we're a lock. 13-7, we're going to have to win a game in Greensboro and then pray.

14-6 is not happening. Let's be real. We stole a couple early, but we'll probably be 6-6 in a little over a week. This team was never that good. I'm appreciative for what it is: A team that can hold its own in the ACC. The NIT will be a welcome reprieve from the recent basement dwelling we've gotten accustomed to.

Because they play different positions. Guillermo is a backup five and with Hugley not playing someone has to play the five besides Federiko. Jorge is a four and sometimes has played the three. While I think that he should be playing at least a little every game, there isn't an obvious need at any moment for him to be on the court.

Well yea, I would agree right now. Probably like 11-9.

I’m no expert and typically more of a wait n see guy, but this lineup your listing looks completely underwhelming to me.

Of course, it is also a complete unknown to the point that I don’t know how you could characterize it as ‘could be good’.

Dior complete unknown at this point

Unidentified Transfer of course a complete
unknown

Jeffress off all year and not even able to practice if he’s still in a walking boot so I don’t know how you can be hopeful he’ll be
much improved. I’d have more hope for a leap forward from Santos for next year.

Hughley in the starting lineup instead of Fede also way up in the air and in any case a big negative on the defensive side of the ball.

At this point of projecting for next year, all we can hopeful is that we’ll have success again in the transfer portal plus at least 1 or 2 if the freshman being ready to contribute something from the get go.

If they finish 4-8 in their final 12 for 10-10 overall in the ACC after collapsing every prior year and bring him back without staff changes then Heather should come under some serious heat.

I think we can maintain a top half league standing without counting on Dior,Hugley or Jeffress.

Fede and Hinson are a good start. I see the twins and even Santos improving. I think the recruits are the real deal.

We need 2 really good, experienced transfer guards.

Yeah, get a guy who can be a primary ballhandler but can also do some things as a secondary guy (Burton replacement) and get a shooter (Elliott replacement) and I think there’s a pretty good, balanced roster in there. If you have Dior and/or Hugley, great. If you don’t have either or both of those guys, then you get someone in the portal who are those types of players. If you don’t have Dior, get another guard. If you don’t have Hugley, get another post guy.

Seemed like they were pretty excited about what Jeffress was doing before the injury. Would have been great to have had him cycling in with Hinson at the 4 this year.

if he won the ACC and we weren't negotiating an extension heading into the next year, we deserve to go winless again. Signed through 26-27. After this year, that's 4 years left. Why in the world wouldn't you retain a coach who just won the ACC? you'd let him walk? You think Wake fans are saying they'll let Forbes walk?

It's never too early to talk extension. It should always be a topic.. if it's not, you're not doing your job. that's literally the most important thing on Heather's plate every single day.. who's under contract.. for how long.. and how are they performing.. that's all she truly needs to get right and it's ignorant to assume it wouldn't be discussed if we won the ACC... my prediction is if we make the tournament, we'll hear rumblings about an extension next hoops season.

They haven’t even made a postseason yet and literally no one is beating down the door to hire him.

What hypothetical job do you and delusional Slater and Jeff think would hire him away?

Comparing Forbes’ success at Wake to Capel’s relative success this year…. WOW. You seriously have to be his agent or something.

That was factored into Hugley playing. I’ve been adamant for years he wasn’t good at basketball. I was proven right again.

Capel hasn't proven anything yet to warrant a contract extension. That's laughable. Let's see him win the ACC first, then at least be top 4 in the league the following year before considering an extension. So far this year, and we still have a lot of games to go, he's doing fine and showing some progress. That's more than he's shown at any time since he's been here. I believe in trends. I'd like to see a trend of this happening for at least 2 years in a row before any extension talk.

I agree with this. I just didn’t see the logic of saying good lineup based on Johnson, Hugley and Jeffress.

As you said, I’m counting more on a transfer or 2, the freshman being contributors and Fede/Santos/Twins improving.

I am holding out some hope for Johnson as well if he’s still here.

We’ll see what direction the rest of the season takes. The FSU loss hurt. Prior to it we were looking solidly like ACC top third. If we don’t right the ship we’ll be looking like middle of the pack quickly or worse if the L’s start to pile up.

I’m not expecting it, just saying how far and fast the drop could be if L’s continue.

All we can hope for this year is top 4 in the ACC. I agree that next year will be a pretty big step back, even with the freshmen coming in that supposedly have high rankings, if they even show up. Forget Johnson....he's not going to be here. And we don't know who will transfer out yet or what the portal might bring.

lol wait you're trying to say that Hugley would've made them worse and that's why we're going to win more than 6 conference games? They wouldn't have won 6 if Hugley was playing all year???

how could anyone argue otherwise? We stunk when he played. We stunk last year when he was the “best” player. He’s a brute force scorer who stinks in every other aspect of basketball.

And again, who is hiring Capel with one NIT or bubble NCAA appearance in 5 years?

This is where you lose me. You’re realistic and know bball so I love your posts but how can you sit here in January in modern college bball and say we’re going to take a dramatic step back next year.

I mean…. Who knows?

We could make the tourney, have a bunch of momentum, and add a really good mature portal guard and forward.

Or maybe Hinson leaves and Dior leaves and nobody wants to come here and it’s all a fluke and we do stink.

But just not sure how you can be so sure we’ll stink at this point. The roster is ok but relies on portal additions which you have no idea what they’ll be.

reacting means you're always behind.

No, it means you're smart and make decisions based on facts and trends. Capel gets paid a lot of money to coach winning basketball, which he has only started to do. I'll give him this....he seems to have turned it around with the quality and character of kids he is recruiting, at least on the current team. That's a good sign.

You'd make a terrible stock trader or business man if you base your decisions on incomplete information.

I’m using his past and what they’re bringing in as evidence as we’ll take a step back.

They’re not gonna add 4 24 year old guards all willing to share the ball. He’s gonna rely a lot on the younger kids next year and they’ll take a step back. It’s my opinion
