LMAO - Powerhouse Temple just barely beat........UMass.

Temple sucks. Would anyone other than PSU fans be surprised if they lost?

Oh right, after their nail biter with Cinncy last week.

That "nail-biter" was caused by nearly blowing a three-score fourth quarter lead by playing not to lose rather than playing to win. You've seen that move before. (Remember Ron Dickerson?)

Lol... All "big time" programs play "small time" programs every year. Fact of the matter is, tons of PSU fans think they're better than they really are. Look up "arrogant" in the dictionary, and there should be a picture of beaver stadium.

Point of this thread is, after losing to Temple, a contingency of PSU fans liked to rationalize it by saying "oh, Temple is actually really good! They'd beat Pitt!" Now that they beat a dilapidated Rutgers team at home like they really should have, I can see that arrogance coming back.

Bottom line, no one said Pitt is "big time" anyway. But Pitt and Penn State are on a similar level right now. It'll be interesting to see which program bursts through this mediocre phase first.

Yeah the old babysitting thing….gotcha ya

Penn State built easy OOC schedules with the expectation they would be on sanctions. Just the year prior to sanctions they were wrapping up a series with Alabama. Prior to that it was Notre Dame. Oregon St. and Virginia was in there somewhere. It wouldn't make sense to schedule opponents like that while under sanctions....not to mention those types of programs probably wouldn't want to. Penn St. is starting to get some better OOC opponents in the future but a new wrench into the scenario is a 9 game conference schedule...it only leaves room for 1 home/home if a program wants 7 home games per season.

U Mass has a really good QB and really thought they would beat Temple as the let down was waiting for them.

Just out of curiosity why would someone think that Temple was going to have a let down in the game the week after the week after their win against Penn State rather than in the game a week after the Penn State win? Shouldn't the letdown have been in the Cincinnati game, if there was going to be one?

EXACTLY. That's why I posted what I did about Cincinnati.

Normally I'd agree with this statement, except that for years, the Nits have feasted off this type of scheduling. This dates back to the Paterno Years, when the Nits went undefeated but weren't given serious consideration for the national title because of their lousy schedules.

Look....90% of ALL power 5 schools schedule 1 OOC opponent where the result of the game is not already known. Take Alabama for instance, they are being touted as having the toughest schedule in the country. Their OOC schedule is 3 pasties plus Wisconsin. The only difference between Alabama's OOC and Penn State's in regards to opponents is 1 quality opponent. The same can be said for most Power 5 OOC schedules.

SEC West is overrated. Auburn sucks, Arkansas sucks. They are just recipients of ESPN biases. A strong SEC benefits ESPN. If all the teams are ranked, then when one team loses to another, not dropping the loser too far in the polls can be justified. It didn't work for them last year when there were 4 SEC West teams in the Top 5. They all failed to live up to the gifted rankings. This year is a new year and a new opportunity to list them all high in the rankings. It is likely just 1 will be in the top 10 by the end of the year. But hey...we'll get the "they beat each other up" excuse. Think about that stupid statement for a minute.. when 8 of the 12 games are against conference opponents, every conference can say the same thing.

You are right. Psu strength of schedule is the same as Alabama. Just wait until psu ' s goes higher with the powerful San Diego state and army games coming up. Sure beats whoever Alabama is playing in the espn conspiracy best sec

The SEC is not overrated. Just look at the last 10 years and see what they have done. Pretty impressive. Anyone that thinks they're overrated should lobby their school to try and join their conference. After that you'll be wishing for the good old days.

Cincinnati wasn't going to be the "letdown" game because the Bearcats were the general preseason favorite to win the AAC. Even prior to the Penn State game, many of the players and coaches were quoted as viewing Cincinnati as the more important of the two games.

But you don't get to "decide" something like that. The "inevitable" letdown comes the week after you were sky high for the game against the local team that has bullied your team for more than six decades, not two weeks after that game.

Temple is 3-0 and beat a Big Ten Team easily and badly , and Pitt barely lost to a Big Ten Team, and Penn State lost to a AAC team?

The Best Team in Pennsylvania right now is still in Philadelphia, the best Schedule resides at Pitt, and one of the weakest is in Unhappy Valley of Scandals and Trials pending and still being paid for by Penn State University!

I happened to attend BOTH the PSU/Temple and Temple/UC games (PSU alum who lives in Cincinnati and has the Bearcats as my second favorite team).

No doubt that the Owls were very excited for the Cincinnati game and gave a very strong effort in a good performance. There was definitely no letdown at Nippert that night.

The UMass performance didn't surprise me that much. Tough to be "way up" for 3 straight games and UMass does have some decent talent (they should get to 6 wins and a Bowl game).

Temple "survived and advanced" though. Well done, and good luck vs. Charlotte.

Cool story. Go back to the cult board

Well, me and well over 100 years of sporting history. But if you need to pretend it's all me then yeah, sure, OK. Me.

Read my lips (apparently it got by you the first time): Cincinnati. Preseason conference favorite. Thus, more important game than PSU (I realize that's hard for you to believe). Therefore, no letdown. Your "100 years of sporting history" is irrelevant.

.

No letdown, but a potentially fatal coaching blunder. Playing conservatively (i.,e., not to lose rather than to win) after getting up on Cincy by three scores nearly blew the game by squandering said lead. Should also have put UMass away after going up 14-0 instead of letting them hang around and nearly snatch THAT game away.

Well if you think that beating Cincinnati was a bigger deal for Temple than breaking their 74 year losing streak against Penn State then what can I say, you just can't argue with that kind of "logic".
