Loaded Capel Tweet

Sounds like a guy who's confident about what's to come...but taking digs at those who left.

You gotta have some bravado so I'm ok with the tweet. Those kids were Grade A Losers. But he recruited them.

Maybe Hugley, having been very highly rated has the look of a legit 5. Maybe Femi can be All-ACC level and he's confident in some other guys. I read a few weeks ago where Keith Dambrot said next year's team is by far his most talented despite massive comings and goings. Sometimes you can just read your team.

Yeah, she is on twitter all day waiting for a middling coach to tweet how he is gonna show everyone this time around .

but he is a Steeler fan.

LOL

Lets Go PITT!!!!!!!!

HTP!!! Keep it rolling Coach had to tear it down to build it up, shit was a mess. We see you bringing us back to the top….HTP!!!!!

Can’t argue the point , his record says it all . I think what most people miss is the obvious difficulty in recruiting top athletes to both major programs at Pitt . JD was struggling as was KS and look at the Fb program, Pitt just hasn’t been in play for the great recruits needed to compete in the ACC . Like I said hopefully the groundwork he’s done with underclassmen starts paying off , the next two yrs will tell . Either he starts winning the recruiting battles or Pitt starts over with another guy who thinks he can recruit better athletes !
There are certain posters who feel that closer losses = real progress.

the dumbest thing about this quote is that he built the shack he tore down

should read.

"i started a dumpster fire 3 years ago, i let it smolder undetected, last year it exploded and burnt the city to the ground..i just got a solid 2022..so ignore the stink and ash..i shall puff out my chest"

Seems accurate. At this rate he will be run out of Pitt and stain his reputation.

It doesn’t need to be that way.

Sounds like he is also talking about the fans who continually bashed him then left him for dead. You guys know who you are.
I didnt start bashing him till after year 3 when he didnt land impact transfers despite having a head start and playing time ready to hand out. Not sure if I count. Anyways thatd be cool if he were bashing fans too, I want to see if he has more wins than excuses this year.

But even then, no room for him to be arrogant....ever.
Why not? He's going to recruit better by saying, "Hey guys, we've really sucked for three years and chances are we'll suck until I'm fired"?

Again, I'm very skeptical that he will ever get this all sorted, but I'm glad he has fire instead of resigning himself to failure like Stallings did. He's going to win or lose by standing his ground.

No matter how successful any coach is there will always be haters . Ie..JD had plenty of them as does Mike Tomlin .

Has he seriously underperformed in his first three yrs ? Zero to six conference wins , two more wins last season and they’re a .500 team in conference. In his tenure Pitt has had wins over far superior programs like Duke , Syracuse, FSU , & Louisville A reasonable goal for this program Is .500 +/- 1 or 2 games and occasional tourney appearances .

Discounting all the distractions from last season from Covid , X , Toney and Hugley isn’t really being reasonable . There was far more drama in that locker room than anyone could’ve successfully dealt with .

With young talent like Femi , Hugley , Jeffress & Santos and the early commitment of Mintz maybe the future isn’t as bleak as the haters want us to believe.

He talks a big game regarding character and culture. He failed miserably at establishing that with his first class, then trash talked the kids in a tweet.
One guys sleeping with a teammates girl and threatening to leave the other two were selfish players with one quitting on the team during the season and the other was pouting the last half yr he was here .

I hate to tell you this , but when your a college student you bring character with you from your upbringing a coach doesn’t instantly instill character.

Fine presentation. Of the ”It’s not me” defense.

Congratulations.

Nothing was stopping him from benching them all till they got their acts together or out the door. Suspended for violation of team rules.

If nothing else, I'm glad Capel is optimistic to the point of arrogance concerning his ability to build something here. It was obvious that Stallings knew he painted himself into a corner and showed his contempt for players, fans, and the administration. It was a toxic situation that was doomed to fail.

Fake it until you make it.

I don't want to defend KS, but he was jumped by a pile of reporters from the start. Those reporters deserved the attitude and criticism they got from him.

would it have worked out? probably - but we weren't ready to sit through a long rebuild.. yet, here we are.

I get the KS slander - he's an easy target, but I can't imagine getting saddled with a shit storm the day you walk into the building. He wasn't given a fair shot from the start, and when Barnes left, his new AD certainly did nothing to support him.

Again, not trying to defend him, but nobody puts themselves in his shoes in this situation. He was setup to fail from day 1.

You need to live in reality , it’s doubtful that any coach will ever come in here and duplicate what JD did in your lifetime . A 6-10 record while not really acceptable isn’t that far off from a respectable season .

Pitt isn’t a win at all cost university and the circumstances surrounding last yrs team were beyond anyone’s control .

For some reason you feel if Pitt fires JC they’ll be able to hire some great coach who will instantly bring in elite talent or 4* talent , that my friend is living in fantasyland .

Tell me you're a lunatic without saying you're a lunatic

before he was hired, Pitt fans had a bad taste in their mouth because of the Jeter situation. Combine that with the early exist loss to Wisconsin and him being the guy to replace the best coach to walk on this campus and you get an easy target to bash. The guy that hired him left after one year, and his replacement wanted him out before she stepped onto campus.

If you think he got a fair shake, you must've had a fairly easy ride through life and never experienced adversity in the workplace. It's pretty evident he wasn't given a fair shake.

He didn't deserve a fair shake. He was a stagnant HC who was going to be fired from a worse program. Fans were outraged before he was even announced because it was obvious he was such a poor choice.

Regardless of what the media or fans thought of the guy, he was still an experienced P5 HC and could've fought through the adversity if it was meant to be. He bombed with a bubble team in Year 1 and recruited the island of misfit toys for Year 2. It should have been clear to anyone by January 2017 that he was going to be a complete failure here.

Plenty of fans didn't agree with the Dixon hire at the time, but he still went out and won and earned the trust of his doubters. Signing Carr was probably the single impressive thing he did in his tenure here.

That is all true and those guys were losers but the coach is responsible for the roster.

My memory is fading, help me out if you will, how many starters from an tournament team did he inherit?

I do find it funny that we’re classifying these people as “losers”. 1 is going to the nba, 2 is going to win a ton of games at Arkansas and 3 is going to win a ton of games at Indiana. Meanwhile Pitt has its worst team since the 0-18 team.

with all 3 of those guys back they win a ton of games this year and possibly win 10 ACC games and fight for a tourney spot.

Being a stagnant HC is totally irrelevant. You have zero clue what's going on in each situation and the support the HC does or doesn't' get from his admin and donors.

Imagine thinking Mike Young and Jamel Artis were good enough to lead a team to the Tourney in the ACC. Jamie didn't backfill the PG position and the two people mostly responsible for getting us there (Jamie and Jrob) were out the door. Don't get this mixed up - Jamie Dixon is the reason that roster was a bubble team. Nothing else. Talent wise, that team had zero business being in the tourney. He was a fantastic coach. The same assholes who ran him out are the same ones who threw shit at KS when he walked in the door.

Pathetic fan base we have.

show some appreciation to Mr. Jamie Dixon, please.

He was the only part that mattered. That roster had no business being a tournament team.
