Louisville game thread

Learning experience. Still early in the conference schedule. IF the coach doesn’t burn the tape of this game, and repeatedly goes over all of the mistakes made

We were tired. It's y our D sucked. SAME 5 WERE IN LAST 16 17 MINUTES OF GAME. Nobody got a rest. Defense is hustle, and want to. When you're gassed, u don't have that extra fight. Horrible, Horrible that they had zero rotation of bench.

Louisville 17 offensive rebounds including the last fatal one. They started 1-10 shooting threes and then hit 12-25.
This team is nowhere near as good as last year. Louisville deserved the win and Pitt certainly deserved the loss.
Smith had 3 points against Clemson and doubled his average today with 25.
Louisville with a 47 point second half.

I guess that might explain Lowe not pursuing Smith on that jumper

Anybody after watching that thinks this team is tournament caliber needs their head examined.

1. Had to play the same 5 the whole half because the bench was useless.

2. Could not or did not care to defend a player who is a standstill shooter, it's not like he was Duane Wade or
something.

3. Gave up a plethora of offensive boards, none hurt more than the one on the last possession.

4. Play street ball one-on-one offense.

5. Got beaten on several out of bounds plays by the Ville.

6. Out played, out hustled, and massively outcoached by Kelsey.

That's why I don't necessarily get why people keep wishing for the ACC to get significantly better. We would get buried in a big-time conference. Let's just go 21-12, or whatever, and bitch that we got snubbed.

If Pitt makes it to the tournament they won’t make a coaching change
I don't believe Pitt will make it unless there are drastic changes. I'm not sure they care to defend. If what we saw today continues, the defense and rebounding particularly, this team will be home again in March. Any solid tournament team would not get eaten alive by a player the likes of Rayne Smith.

Pitt has enough talent to stay in most games (other than Duke) and enough short comings to keep the other team in the game. I think what we saw today is going to be a lot of what we see in the final 15. Louisville has now beaten Clemson and UNC by double digits at home and Pitt on the road and has established themselves as the second best ACC team.

How long will it take the team to learn to box out and play sound defense. Way too many second chance points and easy layups

You would think this team would have learned that by now

Pitt is a good team. But guess what, there are plenty of other good teams out there. Most games are going to be like this.

National twitter is saying how this was a great back and forth game between two tourney teams.

Pitt twitter and here want to fire the coach and this is the end of the world.

There are things to fix and clean up. But at the end of the day this was a tough game between two good teams, one of them on a hot streak.

I don’t think you’re giving smith enough credit. He took out guys off the dribble several times. Just cuz he’s a white guy doesn’t mean he’s not athletic

Other that I agree with most of what you said. Pitt was out coached out hustled and as a result out rebounded which really was the difference in the game

Main thing is to work on defensive rebounding. Just an awful effort today

Depends on how much time the coach spends on that in practice.

Of course college athletes should know this by now

I’m not one to rip on our fans, students, etc….and no I wasn’t there today. All that said…

Thought the students were dead as well. I understood that in the Stallings/early Capel years you kind of have nothing to stand and yell about. But this is the zoo man. Should know the assignment.

We like “highlight defense” more than just consistent, sound defense and rebounding.

Corhen needs to challenge himself and demand 10 rebounds of himself. He's not much of a scorer so concentrate on owning the boards. Bring the attitude and desire.

7 catch and shoot 3s, none off the dribble. One uncontested layup, and one elbow jumper where Jaland inexplicably backed off and watched as he drained the uncontested shot. This was not Blake Hinson going off on Duke last year, when he was making 3s with hands in his face. All of these shots were not challenged due to poor effort. Louisville did a nice job screening for him but we showed no urgency to get over the screen. I was at a high-school game last night and watched a kid run right over the screener because he didn't want the other teams best shooter taking an open 3. That is effort and desire and also fearless. He was called for a foul ofcourse. Anyway, until we play defense and rebound with some desire, we will not beat teams like the Ville, Clemson, NC, SMU , and perhaps a few others. We have to battle like hell to get open shots or layups, letting the other team score at will is this team's biggest problem.

How can anyone say that scoring 47 points on us means we played good defense. I'll be blunt. Our defense SUCKED, especially in the second half. Part of the blame goes to Capel for not giving the guys a rest as they were tired. 'Ville passes well and finds the open man quickly. Our guys were chasing all day. By the middle of the second half, our tanks were empty. That's on Capel and on the conditioning regimen, or lack of it. And Capel was outcoached the entire game.
