Louisville game thread

How can anyone say that scoring 47 points on us means we played good defense. I'll be blunt. Our defense SUCKED, especially in the second half. Part of the blame goes to Capel for not giving the guys a rest as they were tired. 'Ville passes well and finds the open man quickly. Our guys were chasing all day. By the middle of the second half, our tanks were empty. That's on Capel and on the conditioning regimen, or lack of it. And Capel was outcoached the entire game.
He was asked about that in the presser and flat-out said it wasn't a factor. Did Louisville make a lot of substitutions? They had a couple of guys in foul trouble, so I don't know the answer. But it seems like a little bit of an excuse.

7 catch and shoot 3s, none off the dribble. One uncontested layup, and one elbow jumper where Jaland inexplicably backed off and watched as he drained the uncontested shot. This was not Blake Hinson going off on Duke last year, when he was making 3s with hands in his face. All of these shots were not challenged due to poor effort. Louisville did a nice job screening for him but we showed no urgency to get over the screen. I was at a high-school game last night and watched a kid run right over the screener because he didn't want the other teams best shooter taking an open 3. That is effort and desire and also fearless. He was called for a foul ofcourse. Anyway, until we play defense and rebound with some desire, we will not beat teams like the Ville, Clemson, NC, SMU , and perhaps a few others. We have to battle like hell to get open shots or layups, letting the other team score at will is this team's biggest problem.

Defense and rebounding. I don't know how many times this fails us until we understand that we won't win games without at least an effort in those 2 areas. The total lack of effort and poor execution and lack of fundamentals is inexcusable.

You named 3 games that it appears at this point we will lose if this trend continues. We already lost the 'Ville game. I'd be very happy if we only lose 3 more games the rest of the year, because that's the most we can lose and still expect a hope of an NCAAT bid. And it will be on the bubble again.

Capel can say it all he wants that it wasn't a factor. I was at the game and saw and heard the frustration of the players with the body language. They were tired from the middle of the second half.

These players dont get tired. That is just something announcers talk about. They play 4 games per day in AAU and are in elite shape. This isnt soccer. There are countless stoppages in college basketball. You only play a few possessions in a row without stopping.
