Matt Canada...not so fast?

Kind of a bad look if you ask me. Canada was leaked last week......it was a hire out of familiarity but then someone internally realized, holy crap, the "Rooney Rule" and our last names are "Rooney". Whoops. So they go out and give cursory interviews to two African American coaches, they never intended to hire.
Real bad look! That's just a look in to the level of detail(or lack thereof) that exists over on the Southside. And let's just can the con of the Rooney Rule - TOTALLY USELESS!

Getting people into interview to give them a chance is the core principle
How is simply not interviewing people helping anyone ?

Because it's just checking a box! Advocates of the Rooney rule have been spewing the, "it get's people in front of execs for exposure" since it's inception - but take a look around and tell me how many minorities have benefited from being "exposed in interviews"? The previous fake narrative was minorities needed to be in coordinators positions. But when that was box checked guess what happened...you have guys going from positions coaches with not very much success coaching said positions being elevated to head coaching positions.

Which is different from white coaches in which way ?
I mean Canada went from qb coach to coordinator in 1 season where the qb play got progressively worse

I'm clearly not following you - is there some sarcasm I'm missing? Not trying to be flippant - I'm really not getting it? Expand?

You’re saying you don’t like the Rooney rule because minority hiring isn’t moving up- and the potential for someone under qualified to get promoted


I countered by pointing to Matt Canada getting. Promoted after 1 season as a position coach where the play got progressively worse .

I’m suggesting you and others are being selectively scrutinizing certain hires based on race of the cost coach.

Well that's not even close to what I was conveying. My point was - it is merely a check box for most owners/GMs that they have to parade candidates into their facilities that they have no interest in hiring just to meet the Rooney Rule requirement.
