May be reaching the end

Dont know if i can take year after year of this. “ shut down the run but get burned deep “ mentality pretty much burned out
His defense has been exposed as needing 4 1st rd DBs and 4 1st rd DLs to be really effective. He doesn’t understand that even if you stop the run, 3rd and longs are easy to convert when it is man to man across the field with the DBs never turning around looking for the ball and LBs covering slot receivers. Hence opposing QBs always know to throw the ball even if the receiver is ‘covered’ because most of the time the ball will be caught or pass interference will be called on Pitt. We’ve seen this time and time and time and time again. In the last 5 games, it seems like the other team has converted 75% of their 3rd and longs. Also as simple as this concept seems to be they sure do have a lot of broken coverages where the receiver ends up wide open so it is an easy pitch and catch.

1 great season and maybe a handful of nice other ones in 40 years. The others are reruns of this one with demoralizing endings. And that’s even before free agency and no salary cap world. And for us that live in this market it sucks even more. It’s not like you can take a break from cfb here when Pitt’s season is over.

Cornerbacks on an island?
Try getting some good ones.
With the way college football is now and how bad officiating is...I don't even care anymore.
Time to pick up something else in life to emjoy because these Pitt games were torture anyways.

Your point about open receivers is spot on and I think all of us get frustrated with it. I’m just not sure it has to with man to man coverage from the interior portions of the back seven.

I sit in the north end zone and can see the defensive formations that Pitt puts on the field. Pitt rarely puts a specific defender on an internal/slot receiver. Instead, they are usually playing some kind of zone where they are looking in the backfield to play the run and “handing off” coverage.

With that in mind, opposing OCs will flood those zones with crossing patterns, quick outs, quick slants, or seam routes from internal/slot receivers that causes our reactionary secondary to make mistakes or get caught flat footed.

Throw in the press man coverage that the DBs are forced to play on the outside and the negative outcomes far outweigh the positive, especially when the front four gets zero pressure.

It has been this way forever though. Even in 2021, the offense mostly had to make up for the defense. The defense definitely had its moments (UNC, Wake, DJU led Clemson?) similar to the Cal game this year, but even the offense couldn’t save the WMU or Miami games.

It is what it is. The defense was designed for Big 10 running games. We all know this. The defense will have a good day occasionally, but for the most part the hope is you are playing Kent Sate or the QB (SU this year) and receivers have an off day. Not much of game plan there.

H2P

Come on, we’re all frustrated, but they rebuilt a roster, fully changed offensive schemes, and had tons of injuries. If you looked at this situation before the year and expected more than 8 wins, you’re delusional. They have plenty to build upon if they keep that top guys on each side of the ball. And Eli’s regression likely will help Pitt keep him. This is way better than last year, keep your tickets and enjoy the ride

But did we rebuild a roster ?
Players are heading to the portal again
We looked like the same bad team the last 5 weeks

Honestly thinking of cancelling season tickets
Thank you , Kenny for 1 great season
I made that decision sitting at last year’s Cincinnati debacle. Pocketed the cash and saved a bunch buying four games on aftermarket. Sad to say but Pitt is not a worthwhile expense at full price.

The entire first half felt like the Sun Bowl of 2009 or whenever it was … the 3-0 disaster

Talk about no atmosphere… that game yesterday was brutal in more ways than one.

Yes they rebuilt it

Unfortunately the injuries weren’t just random players but KEY injuries that really hurt… OL, QB, RB… and the depth isn’t Alabama or Georgia so that makes things worse.

The question is what will we have left ?

If the entire offense falls apart with an OL injury- nothing was rebuilt .
Defense was torched in all but 2.5 games

Who are you gaslighting ?

but, HCPN says it has been a successful season, how dare anyone feel differently

I mean don't you enjoy the nice game day weather enough like Pat pointed out?

and, critics of this defense saying it's fallen short, well didn't the Vikings validate the genius of the Duzz system......oh, yeah that's with NFL players and we don't quite have a roster of them and not sure they are on the way

hard to deal with his lack of insight at this point and I've said and thought it for quite a while that HCPN's best success critically included having KP on the field leading the team in a way that Pat's team benefitted from far more than Pat himself could lead the Pitt team to as HC, realizing he presided over that group which includes persisting with KP so he gets some credit

he doesn't have enough NFL level talent to continue, he's never been a good game day and situational coach, he's not been great with on field discipline while very good avoiding off field stuff

he doesn't appear to help with the fundraising needed for a while and especially now and in the near future

what's the plan for success in this moving environment because your strength of offering stability where you judge this year's collapse as success now sitting at 7-5 after last year's disaster, is inaccurate to many and at the very least a message nobody wants to hear you say at this point patting yourself on your back

get a clue, answer some tough questions, man up to your hand in the collapse

Are you pretending there wasn’t a huge drop off in talent?

I’m not saying it’s the ONLY thing…nor that the team was completely rebuilt necessarily… for crissakes we had an offense that moved the ball and scored which was several steps ahead of last season ( see Cinci 22 see WVU 22)….

Obviously a lot more went into it including a defense that broke and WRs who stopped catching the ball.

You do realize on passing downs, PITT is usually in some kind of 3 deep / 2 under / zone blitz. Rarely is Duzz in his base cov 4.

In his base cover 4, the LB's do not have the responsibility of any man coverage with detached receivers.

If you expect 9 win seasons or ACC Championships, you probably should.
Be honest with us. Surely you’re related to Pat Narduzzi. You must have made at least 50 posts in the last week defending him.
No person who’s watched Pitt the last 5 weeks could have this much love for HCPN, unless they have a close personal connection.

like a certain poster has said repeatedly NIL is the game changer.

Either start financially competing in the NIL market to get good talent or continue to get your asses kicked. Isn’t complicated

I expect to have a good time watching
Where are your season tickets ?

I give to NIL. I had season tickets for almost 2 decades. Gave them up after 2011.

They were in section 3 of old Pitt Stadium, 3 rows down from the top. (maybe row 52). and section 111 row CC at Heinz. My life situation no longer allows me to attend many games. The Syracuse is the only game I was able to attend in person.

There's nothing to defend.
It's not a coincidence the program turned south when NIL & the portal became a thing. It's hard to win at low budget NIL schools.

What the hell are you watching ?

Defense got shredded in both those games / what talent ?
Wvu is so middling they fired their coach
Cincy is also middling
We beat unc- they fire their coach because they got torched by James Madison .

Well, I actually attend some games. I've been to several games from 2019-present. I was one of the 5,000 in attendance at the Notre Dame game at Heinz in 2020. The game was torture enough without the constant pipes in crowd noise. I give to Football NIL. So, whatever.

Gave them up in 2011…get lost! Pathetic!

Dude, I made 5 or 6 15 hour round trips for years to see Pitt play. When you have a 6 month old & your wife works on Saturdays, season tickets to someplace 400 miles away isn't such a good idea.
Why should you have to defend yourself over going to football games?

I had season tickets when I lived in London and my daughter was one and my son 5 …cry me a river, dude.

That this program hasn't been able to build on the fantastic fortune of finding itself in the BE and ACC over this past quarter century into anything better than what it is defies belief.

Pitt football has been a hive of villainy, benefitting only unscrupulous coaches, administrators and players at the expense of the time, money and emotional capitol of its fans.

If Pitt football were to be run by diehard PSU, WVU, ND and OSU fans things would be indistinguishable from what they've been for over 40 years.

harsh take

fortunately the same group hasn't stopped this later than hoped but real return of MBB and the incredible rise and run of WVB and the extremely good MS

wonder what is currently holding back FB? maybe the slightly above average HC PN? and now the albatross 30+M contract?

what's the commonality in the 3 great programs? maybe good to great coach at the top?

Men's basketball certainly isn't great. It doesn't even have the talent to be great. And it's nowhere near what it was from 2002-2011..

No disrespect to the hoops team, but you can't lump them in with women's volleyball and men's soccer. Totally different level there.
