temporarily; tear down the Pederson arena and build a domed stadium in its place. Pitt basketball is finished for the forseeable future so who cares if it is an inconvenience to them

For football success, I would put the damn team back at the FF, and would smile doing it!

If people think of it as the "Pederson" arena, no wonder it's never caught on.

Space can be found for a 9K-10K basketball arena. We're not in the ACC if not for the Pete. It served its purpose. We had some fun. But its now a morgue. Rip it down, build a football stadium there and figure out where to build a new bball arena.

What the f is the infatuation with a domed stadium? Is it 1979? How many domed stadiums are being built?

This one looks pretty "domed" to me?

A domed stadium would be about as bad as Heinz. Plus it would be too large and how for basketball.

They could absolutely consider the OC lot, as it was once in the plans for a new Pitt Stadium. The main issue is the land underneath. Would it be suitable? Well, they haven't considered the possibility so they do not know. And with Populous not doing a stadium study, they won't find out.

The OP is correct.

PITT would control the seating for both venues.....the yellow seat syndrome would be a thing if the past

Additional space to be shared/ utilized with UPMC

Additional space for student activities/ labs / offices etc.

Imagine for a moment if we had this building during Dixon's run here. Some of those PITT u conn & PITT cuse games would have drawn 20K. Would PITT hoops be in the mess it's in today? Or would the program be so big that Dixon would never leave?

And before SMF chimes in and complains that football is meant to be played outdoors.....I'm sure Syracuse would have built a different venue if feasible

This is the way to go......and should have been the answer when we took a wrecking ball to PITT stadium

The OC Lot space is already earmarked for the new volleyball and wrestling venue. The Field House is going to be torn down.

Should just build a Carrier Dome type structure for football/basketball. 45K for football, 10K for basketball.

I've never been to the Carrier Dome, but from what I've heard it's very crappy. But you know what's great about it for Syracuse? It's home.

This should've been done when Pitt built the Pete. Since we are confined in Oakland and space is extremely limited, multi-purpose facilities should have been a no-brainer. Get it done.

and to answer your last question many stadiums being built now are "domes" but with retractable roofs.
I'm just curious there, '71 ... How many colleges around the country have retractable roofs? I think they're fairly expensive as well, no? I think it's a brilliant idea (sarcasm). How much are you willing to donate to the cause? Jeebus...

Tear down the Pete and build TWO sports venues instead of one.

Seriously, how do some of you get through day to day life?

where did I say the roof had to be retractable?????

Don’t be so closed minded. All that has to happen is for all the people already lined up to donate for new facilities - they just have to dig a little deeper....
