NCAA Tournament Thread

Well that was an up then down day. Thought round one was great effort and excellent wrestling from the panthers but man the evening session was tough. Glad Cleary got a W. Going to miss Harvey but need to upgrade that weight if the team wants to take the next step. Still baffled from Ninos match. I’d like to think I know wrestling but clearly I don’t i need to see a replay because I’m missing something clearly went from celebrating to confused to shock. Don’t even want to talk about the path Nino had if he won… but talk about a tournament!

Well said. I'm sure this was not what they envisioned but jeez, we needed to do better. Upgrade at Harvey's weight is absolutely needed. So frustrated for Nino, but sometimes wrestling isn't fair. Hopefully tomorrow we put some good matches together. H2P

Nino got robbed, but we just have to come through the consolation bracket, still fill good, phillipi wrestled a lot better cause. Desanto, if he keeps it up good things will happen. H2P

Micky needs to win matches tomorrow morning aganist Olivieri and Hudkins to advance to the blood round against Chris Cannon. Neither of the first two are great.

If Cole loses his QF he will be in the blood round vs. #7 Carlson, #8 Hart or Ryan Jack. If he upsets Rivera, he'll lock up AA and move to the SF where he'd be favored to win.

Jake's and Nino's paths look far more bleak esp since they did not have to experience fighting through the whole backside last year.

Jake gets a tuneup match, then Valencia who controversially beat him this year, then diaper dandy Dean Hamiti.
Nino gets dangerous Pentz, then Brucki? then Elam or Buchanan in the blood round.

Cleary faces Jake Keating in his next consolation match. JK is wrestling well and beat Cleary 6-0 last week.

There were a lot of good wrestlers who had bad days yesterday, and lower ranked wrestlers who did really well. Seems there were a lot of lower ranked guys who were all’s Americans the previous year and wrestling well above their seedlng. 133 is probably the most exciting weight class this year. Absolutely stacked with talent. A lot of people don’t like Desanto, but he is one of my favorites and I really hope he can finally get a win over Bravo.

I didn't have a great angle for Nino's match, but he seemed like he was taking all of the shots. Can you tell me what happened that he lost? There were 2 different reviews, resulting in 4 points for Hoffman. I'll try to find the video replay to watch too. Thanks.

He took every shot but 1, the one takedown from Hoffmann that was reviewed, nino had his one leg outside Hoffman and to the side, and the take down was B.S but even after that there should of been at least 1 stalling point or more and only a warning was given, rewarding a kid for doing nothing

I definitely thought he should have been called for multiple stalls, especially after the first one came pretty early. So disappointing for Nino.

Rivera won last night on 2 bad stalling calls. One 10 sec left in regulation and 1 call in OT.

Cleary just doesn't seem to have the gas tank to go get these close matches at the end. Honestly he wrestled well though two heartbreaking 1 point losses.

I remember Munhall had a good wrestler named Baron in 1967 at 154 pounds. They and Lebo were in the same section tournament.
That’s a little before my time. I was 12 when we moved in 1970. I do know one if the Deaugustino’s was the coach there in late 60’s.

What happened? I was in a bad service area? I was really worried about this match. Pentz is capable of big upsets
I can see why, glad Nino just didn't have a let down after loss last night. Just need to keep winning! Couple more for each of our guys!

What was the penalty point for in Nino's match?

3 guys into the round of 16 and one in the semi's.
