- sold-out, packed, took 30 minutes to get in the door. Pitt working the doors now at PPG

- always fun to see the crowd diversity in terms of schools represented. The school that had the most fans was probably Pitt. Tons of Pitt gear. Probably more Pitt fans at these games than any Pitt game other than Duke. OSU 2nd but maybe brought 1000 which is terrible for a school 3 hours away with a million alums. Then Nova. Loyola, Chattanooga, Illinois about the same. Then PSU. Houston and UAB by far the lowest. Maybe 200 each. UAB fans looked weird. Different shades of green, different shades of yellow. Some gray shirts, black, white. It was like it was a bunch of UAB grads, who aren't basketball fans but live within a few hours and threw on some old shirt they had from college. They didn't look or act like fans.

- Best part of the day was when they did a feature on the big screen where they showed all the different fans repping different schools. A guy wearing PSU was loudly booed. Next the camera goes to a guy wearing a Pickett jersey and he got a big cheer.

- speaking of football jerseys, OSU fans wearing football jerseys is totally annoying. You have a really good basketball program. Support it.

- the games weren't very good. Loyola looked so bad. Honestly, I think we can beat them. Delaware hung around till 5 minutes to go in the 1st. Illinois/Chattanooga didn't play great but had a fun ending. Houston reminded me a lot of Glory Days Pitt. A bunch of no-names but just cerebral, very well coached. They choked UAB out early.

- Tomorrow will be the 6th Villanova NCAAT game I've seen since Scottie Reynolds which I guess shows God had a sense of humor. I've seen 1 Pitt NCAAT game in person since (Butler). Watching Nova vs OSU....man, who do I root for? 2 of my most despised teams. I'll be really surprised if Illinois beats Houston. Houston looked much better.

We need a Sean Miller Fan twitter account. I'd follow. Great recaps, great tips, suggestions to improve the program. Not even trying to be funny, SMF might be our best fan.

I can only imagine what fans of opposing teams think of Pitt where our fans had different looks and colors because within like an 8-10 year span we had iron bar Pitt, block Pitt, dinocat, ottercat, script Pitt, 4 different shades of blue, 3 different shades of gold/yellow, etc.

I know you had some thoughts before the tournament sort of deriding the ticket sales here, but those games were absolutely mobbed. I can’t imagine any other first rd sites had as many people, probably a good way to get Pittsburgh the tournament every couple years.

I thought Ohio St had more than 1000 fans but they were oddly quiet.

Games weren’t great. The first game was just so bad that it sucked all the life out of the building, and that was a hot crowd who really wanted a good game.

Chattanooga was at least close. They missed like 4-5 shots where the building would have just gone bananas. Illinois played so bad from like the 12:00-4:00 mark in the second half but Chattanooga just couldn’t extend the lead.

Houston just was on fire. They would have beaten just about anyone the way they played.

that's surprising, I thought it would be a sea of crimson for O$U, similar to when they visited Pitt stadium back in the day. Football uber alles I guess.

nothing more disgusting than morbidly obese buckeye fans wearing Jim Otis mesh jerseys

I still think SMF’s guesstimate was way low. More like 3-4K. They had most of the upper deck. But again, just not super loud like in football. The game was so bad though, they couldn’t have been that happy even in winning.

LOL. So true. The documentary: Pitt Uniform History— 50 Shades of Blue and Gold.

He though there were going to be thousands of empty seats. Meanwhile, the afternoon session had approximately 600 more fans at it than the building capacity for basketball.

I just got back from today’s double header. Sat in the upper bowl. It was packed. The dude next to me was an Illinois fan. I asked him if he had a long car ride back or if he had a flight later tonight. He said neither. He lives in New Philadelphia Ohio and it’s a very short car ride. These big 10 schools have huge alumni fan bases that live all over the country. Same obviously for the bucknuts. Many local basketball fans also showed up because they like hoops and the tournament is special. I think PPG does a great job as host and the NCAA knows what cities can host without issues and can also sell tickets locally to help fill up the arenas

Question for those who attended. Do they do a good job of showing updates and action from other games? I mean, I know games can easily be streamed on your phone but curious how they handle tying the entire tourney together for those at one of the venues.

They went to other games during mostly every break. I would like to see a ticker though with other scores.

The one big problem was they had no scoreboard for other games. That was weird, especially on Friday when there were so many other games.

I went like 4 years ago when it was here. Had the all-sessions pass, which included access to all the games plus practices, some event with the mascots, etc. It was great! Saw some good basketball, Trey Young, Duke had like 4-5 first round picks, Alabama had a really good guard (Sexton?), (got to see Capel run Dukes practice), Hurley was here when we were rumored to be interested, etc.

I just think it's really neat to see all the different teams in one place. Sad story - I wanted to go again this year and no one wanted to go with me - Pitt really is killing basketball interest around here.

Absolutely no one cares that Pitt or PSU (or Duquesne, WVU, Robert Morris, etc) are even remotely close to the arena where the tourney is being held in ‘Burgh. There were tons of fans repping schools that were actually in the tourney saying, “Why are they showing fans of those schools?”
