I see a let down. They played a weak schedule, and their only 'signature' wins (OSU and WISKY), the former was shown to be not so signature, and the second was against a team without their QB.

I can see us pulling out the upset at their house. They will be favored.

I'll say this. They could be lights out next year. Or they could have breaks go against them and be average. I know, thank you Mr. Obvious lol.

Every year there are teams that surprise both good and bad. They will be a heavy favorite for sure. That puts all the pressure on them so who knows how they respond.

They will be expected to carry the momentum from this year. If they can is the question. Does McSorely progress? Does he regress ? Does Barkley suffer an injury in spring ball. I mean same issues could bite Pitt also and we're not as deep right now with proven commodities.

Good post.

Do you ever post anything about Pitt or is it all about the Big Ten's bowl performances and PSU?

-Penn State and Oklahoma State will both be preseason Top 5-10 teams. Penn State should be the Big Ten favorite, Oklahoma State co favorite with Oklahoma. Oklahoma State's offense is going to be a nightmare with their QB returning, all their WR's returning, and the 5 Star WR transfer from LSU. We will have an uphill battle beating either of these teams as I see it now. Ford better be the National Freshmen of the year if we challenge to beat either of them. This is the 3rd year in a row we will play without question the hardest non conference schedule in the entire country.

How do you think Pitt will do next year?

I think our D will be better, and I think the offense will still be good. I feel our line play will slip, and what effect that has on the jet sweeps and our core offense will remain to be seen, but I dont think our line will be below average. Should have solid QB play. I can see us improving on this record this year.

Oklahoma will be a very very good team next year.

I personally think the jet sweep will not be used as much. I think you'll see more of a straight ahead attack with power running and FB used more as a blocker.

Defense has to get better and will be challenged big time as they will face some really powerfull offenses next year. It will be refreshing to see the narduzzi boys taking up about 75% of the roster.

Good post.

I heard McSorely had some issues last game throwing picks. He seemed ok in the Pitt game, but I didnt see a superstar there. Barkley looks good of course, but their D doesnt look better than ours, and that is sad.

Good discussion. I dont think the loss will affect next year. I think Godwin goes pro though, right?

-Considering Virginia Tech and Miami just got crushed with early NFL entries on offense and UNC likely does the same the moment Trubisky announces, the defense will get much better with all the subtraction and stud QB's, WR's, and TE's all leaving early for the NFL leaving the Coastal. The killer was Ok. State getting all their players back. But we got a real shot to win the Coastal. But we are going to have a major challenge not starting 1-2 next year against Penn State and Oklahoma State. I dont think Syracuse, Duke, or Virginia will be all that great.

-If Ford plays anywhere near as good as freshmen Whitehead or better, the defense a lone should be miles better then this year. Webb stunk and I still think Webb was the weakest player on the entire starting defense. The athletic ability and speed alone with open field tackling should be way better the moment Ford takes the field.

Good thing the games vs psu and okst don't mean a damn thing towards Pitt's goal! Win the Coastal!

I agree with that some. But remember before this year, we were all talking how Miami had like 6 starters suspended or kicked off the team, And NC losing WIlliams

-2 Players made big differences in the offseason. Virginia Tech getting that QB from juco who is now NFL bound. And Ahmon Richards for Miami, who put up close to 1000 yards with a 19 YPC receiving average as a freshmen. No one predicted that kind of first year dominance from the start for either of these players. Both of those players single handily killed us. Although our secondary couldnt stop a nosebleed this year.

2017 schedule looks much more difficult for the nits. Pitt may be catching some breaks here with early entrants to the NFL draft at QB. Miami, VTech, NC and still not sold 100% on Ok ST QB staying. Browne looks like a smart move here bringing in a mature QB.

I think they could very well take a step back or most likely equal this years record.
They are going to have a tough game at OSU next year. OSU will improve and that game is much tougher than this years game at home. They got a lot of lucky bounces and won a lot of jump balls a few breaks go against them this year and they could have easily been 7-5 or 8-4.(osu and MN games were very close and could have easily went the other way).

I do think they will be a better team next season. Still won't be great along either the DL or OL. But barkley is a special back and the WR will be very good, especially if godwin comes back.I don't see Mcsorley improving much as I think he is what he is, a gamer who is a good runner and solid passer, but also lacking size and arm strength to make a big improvement.

I hope I am wrong but I suspect we lose that game next year. Next year we will be breaking in new QB and new offensive system, while they will have 2 years in their system. Similar to this year only flipped, it would be a huge win for Pitt but not expected.

I think we are likely to take a step back on offense(not bad but similar 2015 or in between 2015 and 2016) I think the D will be slightly improved( I expect the yards and points per game to go down a good bit but some of that will be because teams won't score as much because they won't be behind(see SU game). Overall I see next years team as not as good. think we go 2-2 OOC.

Were we end up in conference is hard to tell without looking at what everyone brings back. I suspect VT will take a pretty big step back with their best WR,TE and QB leaving. They won't replace those guys with equal players. I think Miami will be better overall but won't have as good of QB play so basically see them as being similar but game will be here not in Miami. NC I think takes a step back without their QB and best WR. That game will also be in pittsburgh. I think we take at least one of those three games we lost last season, maybe even two. Question is can we hold off GT,SU, Duke etc etc. I think 7-5 or 8-4 is likely next year.

PSU and OK ST will be two of the best offenses in the country, BUT VT,Miami and NC will likely be worse than they were this season on offense. Also we don't play clemson. Overall I think Pitt could put the exact same D out next year and there would be a improvement of several points a game.

I am very confident VT is going to take a step back on offense, just don't see VT recruiting enough top talent to fill in for those three players who were all very very good. I suspect Miami will with Kaaya and Cooley leaving, but there is a chance they will be able to reload(especially at WR)
NC is likely not going to get a QB who can match this years QB play. And Switzer was one of those guys that are tough to replace even if you find someone to match his talent.

My guess is PSU is ranked #5 preseason next year. Will be big favorite on Sept 9. Will lose a bad B10 game somewhere along the way. Whole season is game against OSU. Win it - and you have a nice path to Conference champ again. B10 conference champ will get playoff seed next season - without question.

-So am I. Considering Evans had the most dominant season ever in Virginia Tech QB history, Ford was their best WR ever in Virginia Tech history, and Hodges best TE in Virginia Tech history and will replace 7 starters on the starting offense.

-Im also confident North Carolina's offense is going to tank the moment Trubisky goes pro. They have a QB to replace, 4 of their Top 5 Senior WR's to replace, their Top RB to replace, and 2 more seniors off the Oline. They lost everything on offense.

-We should beat both of those teams. Im not sure on Miami yet, but I think they are going to be pretty decent. Miami also lost Yearby who is respectable, and Njoku, a dominant TE

1. How will our defense play next year
2. how will our first year qb play next year
3. how will our new oc do
4. how will our potential new defensive coaches do

we need to worry about our own situation.

Those are the questions.

But anyone questioning why we negatively post about our chief recruiting rival us kinda dumb.

Try not to get your panties too far in a bunch over this. OK State had all those guys this year and Pitt damn near beat them at their place with a non existent pass defense.

Providing our defense improves why can't Pitt beat them at home this year. Ditto the Nits. Rival game at their place is going to be tough but by no means impossible.

Well some of us are able to multi task. We can discuss our state of affairs for next year and still discuss the Nits. Those two things are not mutually exclusive.

They will be favored in every game they play next year, with the possible exception of OSU. If they don't go 11-1 or 10-2, Franklin should be fired on the spot on principle alone...

Ped St fans hanging on the PITT board. Loosing to us must be driving them nuts! 9 months to fester!
Plus Clemson beating Ohio State badly they thought was Big Win for them but Pitt Win was Bigger and Better.....throw in the Big Ten ends up the 4th Owsre Conference out of Top 5, and Big Ten could only win 3 Bowls and one against a MAC School, and USC coming back on them with a 18 lead, and can't accept PITT beat them....well.....The Paper Lions did not really do that much better after all with that weak schedule and the Teams they did beat were not as tough as thought anymore now that the season is over.

You're not worried about Michigan?

I always worry about UM but Michigan peels back a whole new roster next year. Couple that with the fact the game is in HV next year, and the 'intangible' of getting blown out by Michigan this past season, and I just feel it's not as difficult as O$U.

Yeah definitely agree with that, OSU will be the tougher game on the road. I think it will probably be the same as this past year though, another 3 team race.

That's probably the most likely scenario.

Another scenario which no PSU fan seems to see is Pitt might rattle off double digit wins in reg season. I see Pitt going 3-1 OOC. (obviously I have to take PSU there). But then the road schedule for you guys is favorable. I can see a scenario where your whole season resides on the VT game in Blacksburg. Plus you guys avoid Clemson and FSU completely. Similar to PSU, if you can take care of business along the way, both teams could be playing for a conference title.

I could very well see the reverse of this year. Pitt losing to psu but then having the better season, maybe winning the ACC. Obviously after the psu win last year I thought we were going to have a much better season than we did. Hopefully we take care of business in conference.

Its easier to enjoy a good season when no one expects it. Expectations on PSU will create undue anxiety on its fans - overanalyzing every bad play or close game. Pitt fans can just go for broke and pile up the wins. That's why this year was so satisfying for the Nits. Next year might be just as successful (maybe more) but less enjoyable due to expectations.

I agree with our offense. I do think whatever QB we have, with the better TEs and improvement at WR will be surprisingly better than most first year starters can be expected. I am wearing pitt color glasses, but im looking at 9-4 next year

I like the fact that Stache can at least admit he is wearing the Pitt colored glasses.

It's hard to get a feel for next year. We lose a lot offensively and until I see improvement, its hard to be too optimistic. On the other hand, many opponents are losing a lot of key players too.
