After reading the little I could find on these guys it appears that Odata and Maia are both significant upgrades over Randall, Haughton, and Ochebo. Nix?...He's the big... both literally and figuratively question mark. My guess is he might be redshirted.
Odata's video is interesting, he's clearly a shot blocker and rebounder. He looks pretty smooth and his video interview shows he's articulate and intelligent. By the way Richmond is not all that bad (they played Wake Forest, Miami and NC State all pretty close before losing.) Beat VCU (#14 at the time), destroyed Duquesne by 30 pts. and beat a decent St. Bonaventure twice (both times by more than we did). They've been a decent A 10 team for years and we definitely would have struggled against them last year. Odata started ALL his games as a Frosh, started most of em as a Soph, and was injured and missed several his jr. year.
He has had double/doubles and been productive in games against the likes of Xavier. I like this guy. BTW...
6'9" 235.
Maia is also 6'9" and 235. These two guys will give us some much needed "meat" inside where we need it most (did you notice our frontcourt against ACC teams this past season..(NC State for example ran three guys underneath that looked like MEN against our BOYS). Maia may be even a better rebounder than
Odata. Neither is a big scorer but if we can get 8-10 pts. per game along with their rebounding we should be fine inside. Young's 6'9" frame at PF should make him even more of a force playing next to these two. Even if Young moves to Center for maybe 5 minutes per half, that shouldn't wear him down like last year.
Maia may have played in the ivy League but he seems to be tough inside. He's older, experienced and like
Odata, intelligent.
Nix??...i have no clue. If he wins out or even challenges for playing time, it will be a bonus.
Does this fix everything??...Obviously NOT...we still have major concerns on Defense. Also
Jamie is going to have to find the right mix for all these pieces, both the new and old ones.
