At least at Pitt. What has to happen at Pitt is kids need to be "coached up" and coached up significantly. Because our OL recruiting is almost a MAC level school. I went back to all of Narduzzi's classes....and yikes.
First off, Jimmy Morrissey is a walk on so is not included.
2015: Narduzzi's first class and an abbreviated one,
Tony Pilato 3 stars 5.5 rating
Alex Paulina 3 stars 5.5 rating.
Only two guys, both 3 stars but the lowest of rated 3 stars. Didn't remember many big schools recruiting them, and they never really panned out here.
2016: Narduzzi's first full class.
Justin Morgan 3 stars 5.5
Zack Williams 3 stars 5.5
Brandon Ford 3 stars 5.5
Bryce Hargrave 3 stars 5.6 (converted from DT)
So recruiting rankings don't matter?
2017:
Jerry Drake 3 stars 5.5
Carter Warren 3 stars 5.7
Grant Corrigan TE 3 stars 5.5
Gabe Huoy 3 stars 5.5
Owen Drexel 2 stars 5.4
Carson Van Lynn 3 stars 5.5
Ummm yeah.
2018:
Blake Zubovic 3 stars 5.7
Chase Brown 3 stars 5.7
Jake Kradel 3 stars 5.7
Our best class on paper! Woo Hoo!
2019:
Liam Dick 2 stars 5.4
Matt Concalves 3 stars 5.6
That's it, that's the list.
2020:
Branson Taylor 3 stars 5.6 rating
Michael Statham 3 stars 5.6 rating
Again, that's it, that's the list.
2021 Current Class:
Trey Anderson ZERO
Brandon Honorable 3 stars 5.6
Terrence Enos 3 stars 5.6
Marco Fugar 2 stars 5.4
Terrence Rankl 3 stars 5.6
Again, meet the new boss...same as the old boss. Why would we expect different results?
The entire OL recruiting under Narduzzi there is not one 4 star. There are alot of reaches, even in small classes that when the reaches don't pan out, there is real depth problems. No one is there to push the kids on the 2 deep. You have to coach this type of talent UP to a top level ACC unit, but even then it is limited. This ain't exactly Fralic, May, Grimm, Covert, Stepnoski, Dixon, etc...
And we wonder why our OL performance has been so poor??
