Ok. It has been decided.

I don’t expect much since Jeff is incompetent. I’m going to be pretty bitter these next few weeks then I’ll move on.
What has surprised me the most about him is that nobody wants to play for him.

We will get a PG from a bad mid-major like that EKU kid. And a PF with Gueye/Oladapo mid-major numbers but he'll end up being more like Oladapo.

Let’s see what he can do.

Point guard, Power forward and depth.
Certainly that. Also need to have at least 2 capable and consistently reliable deep shooters on the floor at all times in today’s game. Pitt cannot allow themselves to have their opponents make almost 100 more 3 pointers than Pitt over the course of a season.

There are a LOT of needs. Capel really needs to identify the right guys. He doesn‘t have what looks to be immediate success or a strong case to make the NCAAT to sell. But what he does have is OPPORTUNITY.

There ought to be minutes available for the right guys. Pitt needs to get component guys who - when put together with other pieces - can comprise an effective UNIT on the floor. Instead of what has too often looked like 5 individuals operating independently in recent seasons.

A couple of the ”aspects” Capel talked about in his statement are playing style and coaching philosophy. Actions always speak louder than words. So we’ll see if he backs those words up by doing those things.

This. And how his strong point seemed to be how to navigate the recruiting circles. It hasn’t even been avg. It’s been shockingly bad. Year 5 is year 1. Oh well.

Based on history I’m not expecting much. Other than a transfer who has 1 year left why would a kid come here? And most of those kids are probably going to better teams.

I truly hope I’m wrong but if he couldn’t get good players last year why would he this year? And yes Gueye - I know. But nobody including Capel could have expected what he did.

Capel has to figure out a way to get that Jason Roche kid from The Citadel to transfer to us. He dropped 27 on us in his first ever game. Was SoCon frosh of the year and shot 40% from 3. That kid is going to be a heck on an addition as a 3 point assassin on a good team.

Jeff is on his "lowering my buyout" farewell tour.

Have a list of replacements. Update it throughout the season. Do everything to appear nice but start the transition now behind the scenes.

If he does anything sketchy, have the "with cause" paperwork ready to sign.

Will other ACC schools honor him during his farewell tour? He has given them so many victories. Clemson may build him a statue

We have an entire season ahead of us. I have put more far reaching complaints away until there is new evidence they need to be resurrected.

Hoping for the best, though not expecting it.

What else can one do now?

We’ll see just how badly he wants to be a P6 HC. Next year is it for him. If he fails and gets canned, he’ll have to be content to be an asst HC, or drop down in class to even get a sniff as a HC, if he wants to stay in coaching. Either situation pays FAR less than now.

So what it requires now if he wants to continue here is desperation. He’s cornered. He either fights his way out or capitulates. If he decides to fight to survive, the questions become what is he willing to do? Then, is he able to do it?

Staff changes? Almost seems like a necessity. But . . . . . .
He has to recruit players from the Portal who not only can play at this level but who are team-first guys. Who care more about winning games than their own personal preferences or issues - both on and off the court. 😏 Character. NOT characters.

I’ll believe he can do it when I see it. Especially for the past 1 and 1/2 seasons, there is very little evidence that he can either coach or recruit. But as always, I pull for Pitt over all else. So by extension, that means I’d love to see him make the needed changes to transform the program next season.

The thing is other big time basketball schools will also be in the portal if a really good player is available so you still have to recruit against them. This staff hasn’t shown they can do this

I agree. But he can fight like hell. I mean it’s possible he might even try to cheat. What is there to lose? But it’s still a 2 way street. Can’t stick a gun to a kids head. I hope someone bumps this up next year and says hey idiot, look how wrong you were. But I’m not expecting anything much different.

I'm still trying too figure out anything associated with his "coaching philosophy" and what "playing style" he is looking for.

No doubt. Until you do it, you haven’t done it. Talking about it and identifying intended changes and areas of improvement in a statement mean nothing. Capel has to DO it.

There are no trades or draft in college ball. Players are not the “property” of anyone. Everyone is a free agent and you have to compete against every other program to get the players you want the most. Gonna be a tough row to hoe for Pitt. But there is no alternative.

Those sentiments apply to many Pitt fans. :(

I wished he'd cheat. Should pull a Blue Chips.

If he’s trying to cheat and these are the results… then he needs to look inward and just quit.

I actually don’t think he is trying to cheat and that played a role into him staying. Aren’t we on probation through next hoops season?
He might have two years left with some recruits actually signed in November
