I can't believe I'm writing this....

"Diontae Johnson caught a touchdown after 667 days and 21 games without. That’s 223 days longer than the Iranian hostage crisis, if that adds perspective. Johnson hadn’t caught a TD since Ben Roethlisberger quit. Johnson persevered through injury and a lot of drops."

I am sorry but I love Madden. That's some funny stuff right there.

I don't love him at all. However, I will always try and be fair...

“ Think these are the best of ti…???”

What?!?

No one is saying that and this is Maddens tired schtick going back decades

Way to start off with a strawman to beat up on Mark.

yeah, decent article but the headline makes no sense. zero steeler fans think these are the best of times, that doesnt even make sense..

the pittsburgh media is weird. If steeler fans complain, it's because steeler fans are spoiled. if we are happy, well we are fools falling for a mediocre team with a winning record..

i think the majority of steelers fans are pretty level headed. happy we have a decent record but extremely concerned about the offense, defense, and coaching. most steeler fans realize we are not on the same caliber of the ravens and bengals and we will need to get a whole lot better to make the playoffs..

He went back to the Carter administration to try to make a point? 40 plus years?

Is his entire audience over 50?

Full disclosure, I’m over 50, and remember it well, but there’s no way 20% of 20 to 30 somethings (the ones who are truly invested in sports) would get that reference.

The average age of triblive.com readers is probably pretty high

“ You can’t base a career on intangibles”. Absolutely correct Mark. You also can’t base a career on 19 starts, which this bloviated turd does every week.

Madden has an axe to grind with Pitt & Pickett. One of the worse in a city full of unfriendly media. With Pickett, started with tweets after the fake slide. And I think he is still mad his buddies Wannstedt & Gattuso were fired.

Does he ever have any Steelers on his show for interviews? Never has anything to do with the Pirates. Other than the Penguins and retired athletes, does he interview anyone relevant?

Can the Steelers defeat a truly good team?

The Ravens are a top 3 team in the league. Beat them.

If you interact with Yinzer Nation like I do, on Stillers based social media, you will see that there are people who think these are the best of times and a lot of them seriously have Super Bowl hopes, they also are VERY PROUD of being outgained every game and being 5-3, because a win is a win to them and they see it as a badge of honor, that they can fight and scratch and win ugly, who needs stats and anything modern that became popular after 1975. just pound the rock, keep it close and win with D at the end, yes he is right that there are STUPID YINZERS who think this is a good team. He is also right that the ultra-conservative, scared of mistakes approach is weak ass and is stunting Kenny's growth severely, because of course he's right again, there's no long term thinking, like forcing Kenny into high risk throws as I would, risk interception, to help him develop, it's just about winning the next game to hope and pray they can be the #7 seed at 9-8, then as Jim Carey said in Dumb and Dumber, "so you're saying we got a chance?" I was thinking of posting this here because I AGREE WITH ALL OF IT, so I'm glad someone else did.

True, but the Ravens play a similar style, so it's a good matchup, they've won something like 7 of the last 8 vs them. So maybe they can beat them in the wild card game 20-17 and then lose to KC 38-13 in the divisional round.

Madden was super-pro Pitt years ago. Basically a Pitt homer. Then something happened. I dont know what, but Pitt cut him off.

He's right, all we hear is Kenny's got grit and moxie and works hard, by 19 games in we should see some objective proof by now, like yards or TD pass STATS.

How bout 7 game winning 4th quarter TD drives. This is big boy football. Young QBs don’t normally reach their peak that early. He’s not tore up the league but he’s been Not bad for 19 games in. Give him a chance. By the way, the team is 5-3.

You make the mistake of lumping all Steeler fans in with your so called “Yinzer nation”. Don’t. Basically you are the classic hater.

I want to see more, for more of the game, I want to see more TDs scored so there's less need for a 4th quarter comeback. I do get that Tomlin's overall philosophy is weak, impotent and gutless, leading to very little aggression in pursuit of points until there is no choice.

I didn't say "all" anywhere, just pointing out that there are "some" who think the way that Madden and I both described.

Some of you are so angry, anti-Madden, calling him a hater, did you actually read it? 75% of it is extolling positive things they are doing.

That's not fair to Madden at all. Sometimes he was basing it on 3 or 4 starts.

IMO Madden’s gripe with Pitt is Narduzzi and he doesn’t give Pickett a fair shake because he associated with him. He loved Wanny, and hated Graham. He called Graham coach redneck and invited a lot of players on the show when he split. At this point, I think he’s a grumpy old man and lives his shtick way too much. So eff him but only because he’s a sour old jerk.
