OT: Best Live Event You've Ever Attended?

Too many for just one...

I attended the last game at Three Rivers Stadium for both the Pirates and Steelers and the last game at Pitt Stadium. Those games are up there for obvious reasons.

Pitt-Penn State - 42-39
Incredible atmosphere and a big Pitt win. The stadium was shaking.

1994 All-Star Game
It was a couple of years after the Pirates were in contention and I loved baseball and wanted the National League to win the the worst way. One of the best finishes in any All Star game.

1996 AFC Championship Game
It was deafening in Three Rivers Stadium and as soon as Harbaugh released the ball, it went dead silent before complete pandemonium when the official signaled incomplete.

Super Bowl XL
Not the greatest game, but the first time I saw the Steelers win the Super Bowl.

Game 7 Stanley Cup Final
The Civic Arena would rock, but the Joe was flat out intimidating. The Pens silenced that crowd and the save by MAF in the final second made for a great finish.

2009 AFC Championship Game
This is probably the favorite event I ever attended. Steelers-Ravens was the best rivalry in sports and the game as so physical. I thought Willis McGahee died on the field when Ryan Clark hit him. You heard it loud and clear from where I was sitting--and I wasn't close. The Polamalu interception may have been the loudest crowd I've ever heard. Celebrating an AFC title with 65,000 of your friends...it doesn't get any better.

As for sporting events Ive not been too fortunate to be present for many "milestone" games in person. No Steelers Pens or Pirates (ha!) Championship games or anything. The 2003 Pitt vs VT game and 2009 de facto Big East champ game Pitt vs Cincy games were the most energetic live games I've been present for. A couple exciting Pitt hoops games that came down to final seconds (but didn't have much meaning). Ah well.

Jeez.......I dunno.
1979 regular season Pirates game against the Giants. I threw out the 1st pitch and was honorary bat boy for that game. Obviously...pretty cool experience as a kid.
1981 Pitt/FSU game. First college game. Pitt was just so good then. So good.
1983 U2 War Tour Fulton Theatre. Hooked then.
1985 Mario's 1st game.
1989 NHL All Star game, sat next to Mario's parents for that game.
1989 Mario's 5 goal/5 ways game. Sat next to NHLer Tim Sweeney for that one.
1992 Game 1 SCF against the Blackhawks. The Arena's roof opened unintentionally.
2003 Pitt/VT game. ESPN Gameday all of that, for one day...we might as well been Ohio State or Alabama it was big time atmosphere
2006 Super Bowl XL. Defacto Home Game win in Detroit
2007 13-9 Pitt/WVU. That was sure fun.
2009 AFC Championship Game against Ravens. Heinz exploded.
2016 Pitt/PSU 42-39 That was fun too
2017 ECF 2OT against the Sens. Never so nervous

Envious of some of these great games others have listed. Pens OT playoffs games in particular, those are nerve rattling just to watch on TV so can just imagine being there in person.

The 1st 2 Steelers SBs with the Cowboys and more recently the SB vs the Cardinals (Santonio winning catch, Harrison 99 int return to end the half, Fitz big TD catch that appeared to spell doom for the Steelers) probably would have been amazing to see live.

Concerts -- U2 -- Three Rivers Stadium - 1987

R.E.M at Red Rocks -- 1999

Pitt - UConn and the Pete - 2003

Pitt - Duke at MSG - 2007

Pitt - UConn at MSG -- 2003 -- Big East Tournament -- including Rosie O'Grady's and shots with Yuri and Donatas.

Pitt - PSU - 1987 -- the whole day, including our entire tailgate at Soldiers and Sailors

Pitt - WVU - 1997 -- 4th and 17

It could be a concert, a particular sporting event... anything. And your reasoning may vary (could have been a great game/show or just a great personal experience).
oddly enough for a Pitt fan..Seeing Richmond beat Syracuse in the NCAAT in 1991 at the old Cole Field House at Maryland (those venues were much better for the first two rounds back in the day imo) for the first time a 2 beat a 15. Threw my "root for the big east teams" thoughts out the window early in that one...Place was going nuts...

at a relatively close second was the Pitt over Penn State win in '87 when Billy Owens snatched victory from the jaws of Pitt'ing...

hmm, just thought of this...both games involved key players named Billy Owens...

Sports:

Final game at Pitt Stadium against Notre Dame. I was living in Atlanta at time and flew up at the last minute when my buddy got me a ticket. Took off from ATL at 6:00am that morning. My buddy picked me up and we went directly to start tailgating. Surreal to finally beat ND and see the field being ripped apart before the game was over.

Pitt finally beating UCONN in the Big East Tourney Championship. Near the end of the game, UCONN fans left and it was just Pitt fans in the Garden. Awesome experience.

2017 NFC Championship - Eagles vs. Vikings - the loudest anything I've ever experienced live. It was 4 hours of constant loud noise and a total beat down.

Concert:

I saw a lot of good concerts while in college; U2, Guns N Roses, AC/DC, Metallica, Pink Floyd, hell, even Live in 1991 at CMU's Spring Carnival before their first album took off. But Eric Clapton in 1992 at the Civic Arena was just mind blowing. I camped out at the record store on campus and "splurged" for $40 tickets and got 5th row center. My buddy and I were the only kids in the section. There was no light show, no backup dancers, so video screen. Just Clapton and his band playing and they sounded unbelievable.

I saw two feeble old people that looked like they may have met at Woodstock walking around at a festival on Saturday. They were both clad in white Betsy Ross flag T shirts and the mrs. was wearing a Trump hat. I thought immediately of Buffet.
Just good Americans. You don't get out much, do you. Socialist Workers of America shut-in.

Manheim Central vs Berwick at Hershey in 1994. Only time I've seen people sitting in aisles because there were no seats.

i saw two girls making out on the dance floor at metropool in strip district when i was 17. my older brother got me in, a week before i started my senior year in high school.

it was fantastic. still in love with both of them.

The only edit I would make is Mrs Buffett isn't old, I am, she isn't.

Like this morning at the golf course that we frequent, the starter said loudly "it's nice that you take your daughter golfing" knowing full well she's my wife.

That's what happens when you rob the cradle but she was legal when I married her.
She was a blue eye blonde I couldn't let get away.

ps-
We do wear our Betsey Ross Rush Limbaugh autographed shirts a lot, Mrs Buffett has a Trump cowgirl hate, I have my MAGA hat and two different style Make America Great Again shirts that wear and we see many others wearing similar items.

Trumpers are ready for another big win!

Super Bowl XLIII - One of the best Super Bowl's ever with three amazing all time classic plays! The Harrison int and return, the Fitz catch and run to put the Cards ahead and the Holmes catch at the end.

Yomiuri Giants(Tokyo) vs. Hanshin Tigers(Osaka) at the Tokyo Dome - The atmosphere at this game was nothing like I've ever experienced or seen before, think of a neutral site college basketball game between blood rivals with a crowd of 50,000 who never stops cheering evenly split between both teams. First base side of the stadium was all Giants fans and the third base side all for the Tigers, then in the outfield were super fans who lead each sides cheers. The game was really good too with the Giants winning it with small ball in the 9th.

Concerts?
Jason Isbell at the Ryman (and at Club Cafe)
Garth Brooks in State College (won tickets, 1997)
Cure's last US tour in Boston
Pearl Jam at Wrigley

Sports?
Pirates Wild Card
Army's win vs Navy a couple years ago
Ramon's game winner for Pitt vs wvcc
12-0
Palko's 5 TDs vs ND
Last game at Pitt Stadium

Had a ticket for Levance and Pitt beating Duke but gave it up since i started going through chemo treatments at the time.

I'd probably go:

Concert - Springsteen at Hershey Park in 2008. Probably not even the best show I've seen him put on, but it was still great, and the sound was pristine, and the night was perfect with a full moon and the amusement park in the background.

Sporting Event - AFC Championship against the Colts. I remember being there for the game against the Chargers the year before, and, as late as halftime, we all just assumed the Steelers would win easily. I walked out of there totally dejected. But, even though I was young, I remember quite a bit about that Colts game the following year. Their linebacker dropping a would-be-game-sealing interception, us converting a crucial 4th and 3 or 4 (I remember thinking it came down to that the prior year, too, and Neil O'Donnel was unable to hit Foster in the end zone), a collective gasp on that Hail Mary at the end, me high-fiving everyone as they exited, and waving my terrible towel out the window the whole way home while everyone beeped their car horns at each other.

Dec 1, 2007. I had the privilege of watching13-9 in Mylan Puskar's box. My uncle sat on the BOD of an insurance company Mr. Puskar helped get off the ground. Instead of a salary, my uncle asked for tickets. Assuming Pitt was going to get murdered I was decked out head to toe in Panther gear. Mr. Puskar snickered when he shook my hand before kickoff as I thanked him for the tickets. It should be noted that everyone in that box that night were very nice and very gracious. Once we left the box however that's another story. But it's without a doubt the most memorable entertainment event I've ever attended.

I was at the WWE Hell in the Cell event in Pittsburgh where Mankind, aka Mick Foley, was tossed from the top of the cell. That was a crazy experience.
I was there . I believe he was also thrown through the top of the cell down onto a bed of thumb tacks . Foley was nuts .

Ahhh yes, the days. I can remember going to happy hour and seeing the limo parked out in front of certain bars where Mike Puskar was having a few drinks. Yes, I was there, I couldn't believe it, and the best was walking into a local sports bar (where they all knew me) with just my arms in the air going...SHOCK THE WORLD! SHOCK THE WORLD!!! while they were throwing stuff at me. It was in good fun....well....mostly.

A bit younger so i will go with 42-39. My whole life growing up a Pitt fan and being put down by nitters claiming how bad we sucked. Then to kick there asses through and through, i would be lying if i didnt say i got a little emotional. Have about 6 pics from that game in my mancave.

I feared for my safety once we left the box. I just tried to not make eye contact and get to the car. It was at that point that I yelled out a "HOLY SH!T" at the top of my lungs. Much to the dismay of my uncle and his friend.

In no specific order:

Pitt @ Clemson
13 - 9
Coppin State in NCAA basketball tournament at Civic Arena
Last game Pitt Stadium
Penguins opening home game the next season after winning their 1st cup
Pitt beating St. John’s, Syracuse and Georgetown during their first season in the Big East
Tiger Paul coming out in a Tuxedo vs Duke

Was also at Mark Johnson’s fist game as a pro after the Olympics. It was also Ken Morrow’s first game after the Olympics for the Islanders.
Funny - Coppin State is on my list too but anyone who was not there is probably scratching their head. That was an amazing two days especially the 2nd round game vs. Texas. I never rooted so hard for a team in my life.
